Chapter 109 Who Put the Nail in the Shoe

The scream instantly alarmed everyone!

"What happened?" someone said.

"What's going on in there?" another one continued.

"It sounds like Sophie!" the third one chimed in.

Katherine and Teresa also heard it. They exchanged a surprised glance and shook their heads, indicating they had no idea what was happening. They had just come out from inside and hadn't noticed anything unusual with Sophie before they left.

Then, everyone rushed into the locker room to check the situation.

Inside the locker room, Sophie was sitting alone on the bench. She was pale and painful. There was a fine layer of sweat on her forehead.

At the sight of this, Sunny stepped forward and asked, "Sophie, what's wrong?"

Hilton also walked up to her and gently asked, "Sophie, what happened?"

Sophie looked up at them and said tremblingly, "My, my foot..."

What happened to her foot?

Everyone focused on Sophie's foot. One foot was in a shoe, while the other was bare, stretched out as if enduring some severe pain!

"My foot was sweating, so I wanted to change shoes before going out. But when I was changing shoes, something in the shoe pricked the bottom of my foot. It hurts so much." she continued.

Sophie explained to everyone, struggling to endure the pain.

Hearing this, Sunny quickly went to Sophie's foot, squatted down, and checked the bottom of her foot. "There's really something stuck in Sophie's foot! It looks like a nail! What should we do?"

Hilton, rarely serious, said, "Don't worry, the ranch has an emergency doctor. I'll send someone to get them."

Sunny comforted, "Sophie, hold on a bit. The doctor will be here soon to help you with the wound."

Sophie nodded with tears in her eyes.

Teresa, feeling something was off, pulled Katherine's hand and whispered in her ear, "Katherine, weren't those the boots you tried on earlier? How could there be a nail inside?"

Katherine looked over at Sophie, narrowed her beautiful eyes slightly, and said nothing.

The ranch doctor arrived quickly and examined the bottom of Sophie's foot.

The doctor then took a pair of tweezers from the medical kit and swiftly removed the nail from Sophie's foot. He disinfected the wound and bandaged it.

During the process, Sophie was already in tears from the pain, gripping Sunny's arm tightly and groaning.

After bandaging, the doctor advised, "Ms. Jones, it's done. The nail has been removed. You need to avoid getting the wound wet for the next few days to prevent infection."

Sophie, as if having gone through some ordeal, weakly said to Sunny, "Sunny, it still hurts a lot. Can you ask the doctor to give me some painkillers?"

Seeing Sophie in such pain, Sunny felt both sympathy and anger. He frowned and questioned the doctor, "What's going on at your ranch? How could there be something dangerous like a nail in the locker room!"

The doctor, looking innocent, explained, "Mr. Mitchell, the nail isn't from our ranch! What was stuck in Ms. Jones' foot was a woman's earring. We don't have any female employees at the ranch, so it couldn't be ours."

Saying this, the ranch doctor showed the earring they had just removed, proving the innocence.

It really was an earring with a diamond on it!

Sunny leaned in to take a look and instantly lost his temper, helplessly looking at Sophie. "Sophie, it turns out you accidentally dropped your earring in there. Be more careful next time!"

Sophie looked at the earring in the doctor's hand and shook her head in grievance. "No! This earring isn't mine. I never wear earrings like that."

"Sophie, this earring isn't yours?" Sunny suddenly became alert. "Could it be that someone deliberately put it in your shoe? Is someone trying to harm you here?"

This statement made everyone present more alert.

They were all friends who had known each other since childhood, and their families were close. Who would harm their friend in such a way?

Sunny's words paused Sophie. Then, as if she suddenly realized something, she looked at Katherine who was standing between Alex and Teresa, with a face full of disbelief.

"Katherine, I have no grudge against you. Why would you do this?" Sophie asked sadly.

Everyone was stunned, their shocked gazes turning to Katherine! She was the only one who had just recently met all of them and had no deep connections.

Katherine, who was yawning out of boredom, lazily lifted her eyes and said, "Hmm? Are you talking to me?"

At the sight of Katherine, the 'culprit,' so nonchalant, Sophie felt both aggrieved and angry, her eyes reddening as she accused. "You were the only one who touched my riding boots when you tried them on earlier. If it wasn't you, who else could it be? Katherine, I was just being kind by lending you my shoes. If they didn't fit, that's fine. Why would you take the opportunity to harm me? You know I'm a ballet dancer. If my foot gets injured and leaves a lasting effect, how will I dance in the future?"

Katherine looked at her calmly, raising an eyebrow slightly. "What you're talking about has nothing to do with me. Besides, it's just a small earring, Ms. Jones. You're not made of paper. It shouldn't leave a permanent hole."

Sophie bit her lip, feeling even more aggrieved, her voice tinged with tears. "The needle didn't prick you, you don't know how much it hurts! Katherine, I know we had some misunderstandings over a watch before, but that was in the past, wasn't it? There's no need for such a vicious revenge!"

Katherine furrowed her brow slightly as if she had heard a very unfunny joke. "Revenge on you? Ms. Jones, do you have a persecution complex? That day in the restaurant, when I threw your watch into the soup, I considered our so-called misunderstanding settled. I'm a lazy person. I don't have time to pursue such trivial matters a second time!"

Sophie was stunned. She hadn't expected Katherine to be so straightforward and blunt.

But, in a way, it was good.

The more Katherine acted tough and rude, the more she seemed malicious, vengeful, and uncouth!

With everyone watching, their minds would be clearer about who the real victim was here!

Thinking of this, Sophie took a deep breath to suppress all her grievances and forced a smile, showing a generous attitude. "Katherine, there's no need to deny it. I don't intend to hold you accountable. If you admit your mistake, we can clear the air and move on. For Alex's sake, we can still be friends in the future!"

Katherine furrowed her brow with a look of disdain. "Sorry, Ms. Jones, we weren't friends before. We won't be friends in the future. I don't need to force a friendship for anyone's sake! Besides, why should I admit to something I didn't do?"

Sophie didn't want to be friends with Katherine. It was just a polite gesture.

At this moment, Katherine's unreasonable attitude played right into Sophie's plan.

Now, her kindness, her willingness to reconcile despite being wrong, and her being rejected so heartlessly made Sophie seem even more vulnerable and aggrieved.

With tears in her eyes, Sophie looked helplessly and indignantly at Alex, who had remained silent.

"Alex, you see Katherine's attitude. You, Hilton, and I have been friends for years and know each other well. Do you think I would falsely accuse her for no reason?" Sophie asked.
