Chapter 483 A Liar's Words Are Not Trustworthy
"I don't think Katherine is like what people say online. Plus, what motive could she have with an old guy like me? Bernard offered her $5 million for saving my life, and she didn't even take it!"
Hellen nodded in agreement with Vincent. She liked Katherine from the start, maybe because she reminded her of their missing granddaughter, Laura.
They just didn't think Katherine had bad intentions.
Alice frowned. "You two are too naive! If she had a bigger plan, she wouldn't care about Bernard's $5 million!"
Vincent never trusted Alice much. He frowned. "Then what bigger plan could a young girl like her have?"
Alice sighed, looking worried. "When Sunny went to the hospital, you two didn't go, but you heard what happened, right? Katherine made it look like Scarlett wasn't Alex's savior to cut off their contact! Alex now believes Scarlett has been lying to him all these years."
Vincent and Hellen exchanged glances.
Vincent frowned. "We heard about it, but Scarlett faked her infertility to make Alex stay with her, right? That's on Scarlett. She lied and blackmailed him for years, embarrassing the Mitchells. We never wanted her to marry into the Melvilles, but she didn't listen. So, how can you blame Katherine?"
Vincent might be old, but he wasn't senile; his logic was still sharp!
Alice's face turned a bit sour. She forced a stiff smile. "Dad, it's not that I don't want to teach Scarlett, but matters of the heart are tricky! Bernard spoiled Scarlett. She always got what she wanted, so she had to have Alex! I want to teach her, but I can't control her!“
”Scarlett did save Alex. The snake venom left her cold, but she recovered without knowing. You've seen her grow up. You know her well. Scarlett is willful and wants to marry Alex, but she never lied!"
"Katherine erased Scarlett's good deeds with a few words and made everyone believe her. Isn't that scary?"
Vincent looked at Scarlett, who was sitting beside Alice with red eyes. He did have a soft spot for his granddaughter.
Scarlett was a child they had watched grow up. Although she was a bit spoiled and willful in matters of the heart, she was mostly kind and sensible, not the type to lie.
Seeing Vincent's hesitation, Alice jumped in. "Dad, Mom, I think Katherine saved you with ulterior motives. She wanted to eliminate Scarlett as competition for Alex. She created that situation to get into the Mitchell family, understand us, and then cut Scarlett off from Alex."
"And she succeeded!"
"After learning how Scarlett saved Alex, she twisted the story, adding details Scarlett couldn't remember. She broke it down bit by bit, making it look like Scarlett never saved Alex, leaving her no chance to get close to him again!"
"Of course, everyone in the Mitchell family is happy to see Scarlett cut ties with Alex."
"But we shouldn't let Katherine's words make us doubt Scarlett's character. Scarlett isn't who Katherine claims! She's been crying at home, her eyes swollen from everyone's misunderstanding."
"Alex believed Katherine's lie and ignored Scarlett. Even Bernard, who always spoiled her, now believes Katherine's lies and won't speak to her. She is really upset about the way Bernard is treating her.".

As Alice tried to turn the situation around, Scarlett played along, wiping her tears and saying pitifully, "I'm really innocent! I didn't lie; Katherine is targeting me! Now, even Dad and my brother don't want to talk to me. When I went to the hospital to see Sunny, he ignored me too. I feel so helpless. The people who loved me the most now don't want to talk to me because of an outsider's lies. I'm so sad; I don't know what to do."
The more she spoke, the more she cried. She stood up from the sofa and then knelt on the ground. "Grandparents, please don't treat me like they do! Otherwise, I really feel suffocated and won't be able to live."
Seeing her cry so pitifully, Vincent and Hellen both frowned in distress.
Vincent said, "Alright, Scarlett, get up first!"
Hellen added, "Yes, Scarlett, get up and talk! Even though your cold constitution is cured, you shouldn't stay on the cold floor!"
Seeing her grandparents start to feel sorry for her again, Scarlett secretly smiled.
At that moment, a servant came over and said, "Mr. Bernard Mitchell is back, and he brought Ms. Galatea with him."
Alice and Scarlett exchanged a glance. They didn't expect Katherine to come so quickly. They had left no traces.
