Chapter 649 Explanation

Alex was slouched back in the chair. When Katherine first woke up, she didn't recognize him. It wasn't until Alex shifted a bit that the light from the car window lit up his face.

Seeing it was Alex, Katherine felt even worse and awkwardly frowned. "It's you! How did I end up in your car?"

Alex squinted at her. "You should ask yourself why you fainted on someone else."

Katherine suddenly remembered the moment she fainted. It seemed like someone had caught her from behind, stopping her from hitting the ground.

No matter what, Alex helped her. Katherine spoke to him more politely, "Sorry, I might have low blood sugar. Thanks for helping me. I won't bother you anymore."

As she spoke, she reached for the car door handle, ready to get out.

Alex didn't stop her, but he said lightly, "Didn't you want Lotus's self-portrait?"

Katherine suddenly paused, and she turned sharply to look at Alex. "You have that painting?"

No wonder she couldn't find Lotus's self-portrait at the party.

Alex lazily propped his head up and nodded.

Katherine closed the car door and sat back down. "Where's the painting? Can I take a look?"

Alex looked at her with a hint of sarcasm. "It's my personal property. Why should I let you see it?"

Katherine guessed Alex bought it and felt a pang in her chest. For the sake of Lotus's painting, she suppressed her displeasure. "I just want to take a look. I won't take it from you!"

Alex said, "How can I be sure you won't take my painting? Are we that close?"

Katherine puffed her cheeks, thinking Alex was doing this on purpose. "Well, we're not close. But we did work together once. Just let me take a look, even if it's from a distance."

Alex reached out and lifted her chin, examining her like an interesting object. After a long while, he coldly said, "Beg me."

Katherine was already very annoyed, but she had no choice. She took a deep breath and said, "Fine. Mr. Melville, I beg..."

Before she could finish, her mouth was covered.

Alex leaned in almost instantly, pressing his lips heavily against hers in a gentle but unyielding kiss.

Katherine's eyes widened. Realizing what was happening, she immediately pushed Alex away and wiped her mouth. "Are you crazy?"

Alex's breathing was slightly rough, and he glared at her with a hint of resentment. "I am crazy."

Katherine wiped her mouth again, trying to calm her racing heart. "If you're crazy, go find someone else! I don't have time to play with you!"

She was very angry and didn't want to see the painting anymore. She just wanted to leave quickly. However, this time, Alex leaned over, pulled her back, and closed the car door tightly.

"What are you doing? I'll call for help!" Katherine struggled angrily, but Alex pulled her onto his lap, holding her lightly but firmly.

Because she was pregnant, Alex didn't hold her too tightly, but it was enough to keep her from bolting.

Katherine couldn't break free and glared at him angrily. "Alex, what do you want?"

Alex's face was stone-cold, but it was clear he had no intention of letting her go. "You'd rather beg me than talk to me properly?"

Katherine frowned. "When did I not talk to you properly? Didn't you ask me to beg you?"

Alex sneered, "Since when did you become so obedient? When I asked you to stay at home, why didn't you listen?"

Katherine was speechless, feeling frustrated. She could only glare at him, not knowing how to express her anger. She couldn't break free.

Seeing her puffed-up face, Alex's resentment unconsciously dissipated. He raised a hand to pinch her cheek. "Now that you're chubby, how are you still so cute?"

Katherine said, " I won't forgive you!"

Alex raised an eyebrow. "Then what do I have to do for you to forgive me?"

Katherine was stunned, meeting Alex's deep and complex eyes. She was a bit confused.

When she said she wouldn't forgive him, she meant his behavior of holding her against her will. But the forgiveness Alex was asking for seemed to be different from what she understood.

Seeing Katherine not speaking, Alex moved closer, gently pressing his forehead against hers. "Tell me, what do I have to do for you to forgive me?"

Katherine's heart skipped a beat. She quickly pulled back to avoid his touch. "Don't touch me!"

Alex didn't move closer again. He just looked at her quietly, with a strong yet submissive gaze that made Katherine feel a bit sorry for him.

Katherine then snapped back to reality and thought, 'Feeling sorry for Alex? I'd rather be unlucky for the rest of my life!'

Katherine said, "Mr. Melville, please stop saying confusing things. Let me go!"

Alex frowned. "Then tell me, why did you run away back then?"

Katherine looked at him coldly. "Because I stick to my principles, and you've crossed a line."

Alex's eyes were deep. "Because of my marriage registration with Sophia abroad?"

Katherine was fuming. "Since you know, why are you asking me?"

Alex said, "It's not what you think. Why didn't you ask me before you left?"

Katherine retorted, "You must have a bad memory. I asked you, and you didn't tell me the truth!"

Alex asked, "You asked me? When did you ask?"

Katherine said firmly, "I asked if you were hiding something from me, and you said no!"

Alex's eyes darkened, and he sighed deeply. "To deceive Jackie, before we met, I intended for Sophia to come here and deceive him for me. But her flight was delayed that day, and I met you. Sophia and I are just friends."

Katherine listened to his explanation and found it quite amusing. "No matter what, you lied to me. I don't think there's any point in you saying anything else. Let me go!"
