Chapter 546 What a Coincidence

But hey, a little impatience could totally mess up big plans.

Without patience, you ain't getting anywhere big.

Katherine glanced up at Alice and said, all chill, "Since Mrs. Mitchell's not cool with me taking Charles away, I'll hang here for a bit. Hope you don't mind. Gotta say, Summer Villa's got a nice vibe, perfect for my recovery."

When Charles heard Katherine was sticking around, he looked up, surprise lighting up his once dull eyes.

Alice, looking all smug, quickly switched gears and grinned slyly, "Sure thing! It's pretty dull here solo. If Ms. Galatea wants to stay and chat, that's awesome!"

Katherine smiled, "Guess I'll be crashing here then!"

Leander frowned, worried, and tried to stop her, "Mrs. Melville, this might not be..."

Katherine cut him off gently, "Just a few days; it'll be fine."

Then she stood up, bent down, and took Charles's tiny hand, "Come on, Charles, show me around?"

Charles flinched at first, like he was scared of being touched. But Katherine held on, so he couldn't pull away.

Feeling the warmth of her hand, Charles felt a new sense of security and courage. He clung to Katherine, afraid she'd leave, and nodded, ready to show her around.

Katherine followed Charles slowly, unable to ignore the pleading look in his eyes. He was too young to save himself.

Leander trailed behind, ready to protect her.

Alice, not trusting Katherine with Charles alone, tagged along too.

After wandering around Summer Villa for a bit, Katherine's feet started to ache, so she asked Charles to find a spot to rest.

The Mitchell family's servants set up a clean, elegant room for her.

The housekeeper must've gotten the okay from Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell before setting up such a nice room.

No way Alice would've done it.

Charles wanted to stay with Katherine while she rested.

But Alice, worried Charles might spill something, dragged him away.

Katherine wanted Charles to stay, but since Alice insisted, she let it go.

At least while she was here, Alice wouldn't dare harm Charles, afraid of getting caught.

Katherine took a nap in the guest room, with Leander standing guard outside, not budging.

The Mitchell family sent food, but Leander sent them packing. Even if Katherine had to stay here, he wasn't letting her eat anything from them.

Alice clearly had bad intentions. If she poisoned the food, it could harm Katherine and her unborn child.

When Katherine woke up and stepped out, she saw Leander standing firm at her door. She rubbed her temples and said, "Mr. Nelson, you don't have to be so on edge. Alice won't dare mess with me right now."

Leander frowned and said, "Mrs. Melville, better safe than sorry. That Mrs. Mitchell looks like she wants to off you!"

Katherine chuckled, "She might want to, but she’s gotta be able to pull it off first!"

Leander sighed, "Mrs. Melville, do you really have to stay here? Honestly, I think Charles's situation isn't that dire. You should wait for Mr. Melville to come back and then come together to get Charles."

Katherine felt a pang of heartache thinking about Charles, "Do you really think the kid will be okay here? Even though he's not Alex's biological son, Alex adopted him and has a responsibility towards him. We can't just let others bully him. If Alex saw Charles in such a fearful state, he wouldn't just stand by and do nothing!"

Leander opened his mouth but had nothing to say.

Yeah, if Alex saw it, he wouldn't just stand by.

Alex had a strong sense of responsibility; otherwise, he wouldn't have been used by Scarlett for so many years because of a life-saving favor.

Katherine didn't want to hear Leander's persuasion anymore and waved her hand, "Alright! If you have things to do, you can head back to Janetrick. I can handle things here on my own, no problem."

Leander couldn't possibly leave her alone and shook his head, "Mrs. Melville, don't worry. I don't have much to do, so I can stay here with you, no problem."

Katherine knew she couldn't shake Leander, so she said nothing more. She touched her empty stomach and said, "I'm hungry. Have the Mitchell family whip up some food for me!"

Leander said cautiously, "Mrs. Melville, it's fine for you to stay here, but avoid eating the Mitchells' food.. If Mrs. Mitchell retaliates and puts something in your food, it would be bad! The medical conditions here aren't great, and an ambulance might not arrive in time, so it's better not to eat it."

Katherine knew Leander's concerns were legit, "So you plan to let me starve?"

Leander waved his hand, "No way, if you're hungry, I can take you out to eat. There are some nice spots nearby where you can grab a bite."

Katherine pouted, "Aren't you afraid I'll eat something sketchy at a restaurant?"

Leander smirked, "It's still safer than the Mitchell family's food. But it's best if you go home; otherwise, Sandra will worry about you."

Katherine turned back into the room to grab her coat, "Take me to a restaurant! I'll call and explain to Grandparents."

Leander had no choice but to nod, "Yes!"

Katherine actually wanted to take Charles to the restaurant to eat something good, but she knew without a doubt that Alice would never agree to let her take Charles out of Summer Villa.

So she ditched the idea.

Leander drove her to the best restaurant, ordered a few dishes, and personally supervised the kitchen.

Katherine thought Leander was being overly cautious and pinched her brow.

At that moment, someone pulled out the chair opposite her and sat down.

Katherine paused and looked up to see a familiar face—it was Jonathan.

"Katherine, what a coincidence! Are you here for fun?" Jonathan said.
