Chapter 944 Why Did You Kidnap Me
Orion suddenly realized, "So soon?"
Scarlett didn't have time to explain anything to Orion. She hurried into the cave, took Charles out of the dog cage, and left.
Others might not find her so quickly, but Katherine and Alex really could. She needed to find another hiding place quickly.
Charles was still crying in the dog cage, whimpering and trembling.
Scarlett didn't care about Charles's feelings. She directly pulled him out, tied him up with a rope, and then called Orion at the entrance to come in and carry Charles!
Orion was quite reluctant, but the $100,000 Scarlett promised him hadn't been received yet, so he had to comply.
With Charles on his back, Scarlett and Orion left the cave. Scarlett deliberately threw Orion's phone in the cave and promised to compensate him with a better one!
Lonely Crag was far from the city. By the time Alex and Katherine arrived, it was already two hours later, and it was early morning.
Lonely Crag was truly desolate, with dense weeds all over the mountain and no roads for cars to drive on!
Katherine got out of the car and was about to hike up the mountain to find Charles!
Alex pulled her back in time, "Calm down, rushing up there like this will be pointless. It'll be like looking for a needle in a haystack!"
Calm down? How could she calm down?
Whenever she thought about Scarlett possibly taking out her frustration on Charles because she couldn't get Alex, she felt terrible and couldn't calm down!
"But Charles..."
Alex pulled her into his arms, gently patting her back to comfort her, "I know, I'm also very worried about him, but let's wait a bit longer. Our people and the police should be here soon."
Katherine looked up at him, somewhat surprised and shocked, "When did you notify the police? If they come, they might alert Scarlett."
Alex squinted his eyes calmly, "If I'm not mistaken, you already alerted them when you had that shop owner make the call. Now, what we need to do is surround Lonely Crag in the shortest time possible and let the police dogs search! Our car can't go up, and neither can theirs. From the time of that call until now, I guess they haven't come down the mountain yet! Stay by my side, don't let me lose you before we find Charles!"
Listening to Alex's reasoning, Katherine felt it made sense. She tightly held Alex's big hand to calm herself down a bit.
Bernard also said, "Alex is right, Katherine, you can't panic!"
Katherine reluctantly agreed.
Ten minutes later, dozens of black cars stopped behind their car, including people from the Melville family and the police.
Because they had communicated in advance, the police cars didn't use sirens to avoid alerting Scarlett and her group.
Everyone got out of the cars, and some of them had well-trained police dogs. With a look from Alex, those people started surrounding the mountain.
At this point, Alex led Katherine to follow a police dog up the mountain, with Bernard and Sunny close behind.
The path up the mountain was very difficult, and it was late at night with weak lighting, making it easy to get scratched by thorns.
But these were minor issues that Katherine could endure. She just wanted to find Charles as quickly as possible!
Perhaps because they were eager to find Charles, they followed the police dog and found a cave after more than an hour!
The police dog barked furiously at the cave entrance, drawing everyone's attention!
Katherine didn't hesitate to walk towards the entrance, but Alex pulled her back to shield her, and Bernard stepped forward to protect Katherine.
The police dog entered the cave first, followed by Alex and Katherine.
The cave was pitch black, and they could smell the scent of burning wood.
The police turned on their strong flashlights, and they saw the dog cage and the ashes of burnt wood in the cave.
The moment Katherine saw the dog cage, her eyes turned red, and tears instantly filled her eyes!
"They must have kept Charles in this dog cage! Damn it! How could they treat a child like this?"
Alex's expression also darkened as he looked at the dog cage.
The police dog sniffed around and barked twice after detecting a special scent.
Sunny followed the police to check and saw a puddle of water on the ground.
Was that Charles's urine?
When Katherine saw the puddle, she immediately understood, "That must be Charles's urine. He's leaving us a scent trail! The urine hasn't dried, which means they haven't gone far!"
Alex said, "Yes, they shouldn't be far. Let all the police dogs get familiar with Charles's scent and intensify the search!"
"Yes!"
On the other side of the mountain, Orion was panting heavily as he carried Charles down, almost out of strength.
They couldn't hear the commotion of people surrounding the mountain and hadn't realized the danger was approaching!
Orion didn't want to walk anymore. He stopped and put Charles down, "Scarlett, I'm telling you! You're overthinking it. No one will come here in the middle of the night! I really can't walk anymore. I'm not going!"
Scarlett got anxious when she saw him stop, "How can you stop? Hurry up and carry Charles down the mountain!"
Orion waved his hand, "I can't carry him anymore! If you want him carried, do it yourself! I didn't even have dinner to get him up the mountain, and now you want me to carry him down. This is just torture! Now my back not only smells of my sweat but also Charles's urine. He peed all over me!"
Scarlett's ominous feeling grew stronger, "He peed, so what? I'll give you money to buy new clothes later. Just carry him now and hurry down the mountain!"
"I really can't walk anymore! If I keep going, I'll collapse!"
"Do you... do you still want the money or not?"
Orion lay on the ground, exhausted, "I can't walk anymore. If you don't give me the money because of this, I'll go to the police and report you for instigating me to kidnap someone else's kid! Neither of us will get away with this."
Scarlett gritted her teeth. She hoisted Charles up herself and said, "If you don't want to walk, fine, I'll carry him! You can stay here and get caught, but don't say I didn't warn you!"
With that, Scarlett carried Charles and continued to walk quickly down the mountain.
She didn't realize until she carried him that Charles's pants were completely wet; he had peed himself!
Scarlett frowned in disgust, "Useless, you're a big boy now, and you can't even hold your pee!"
Charles, tightly bound and already exhausted from crying, spoke hoarsely, "If you dislike me so much, why did you kidnap me and bring me here?"
