Chapter 468 Restoration
Joshua stood off to the side, holding his head like he couldn't face anyone. "I've been wise all my life. How did I end up with such a shameless daughter?"
Sherry held his arm, trying to comfort him. "Dad, don't stress over that ungrateful girl. You still have me!"
Lillian chimed in. "Exactly, Joshua! We still have Sherry. As for Katherine, let's hope she repents and gives others a fair chance!"
Camlia's words were so convincing that Sandra was genuinely confused. She looked at Katherine, struggling to believe she could be that kind of person.
Katherine stayed calm. "I still say the same thing: whether you accuse me of taking someone else's grades or having an abortion, you need to provide evidence. Otherwise, it's all slander!"
Camlia shot back, "The evidence is that you took leave before the SATs to have an abortion!"
Katherine was unfazed. "You say I had an abortion, then where did I have it? Which hospital? Which doctor?"
Camlia retorted, "Who would know the details of your dirty deeds! It was probably at that shady clinic in town that closed down years ago!"
Katherine replied, "Closed down? Then that means there's no evidence."
Camlia bit her lip and said confidently, "Katherine, even if I can't prove you had an abortion, I can prove that your academic performance was poor. There's no way you got into Janetrick University on your own!"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Oh? How will you prove that?"
Camlia snorted confidently. "You frequently skipped classes in high school. The school has attendance records! How could someone who often skipped classes be a good student? Ma'am, you can send someone to check the attendance records from back then and see if Katherine was frequently absent!"
Sandra looked at Katherine hesitantly, her eyes filled with doubt. "Katherine, this..."
Katherine stayed silent.
In high school, she did skip classes often, but not to mess around.
She was busy founding the Crescent Group, and Ambrosia and Frank couldn't handle things alone yet, so she had to do everything herself.
However, she had already mastered the school curriculum, stayed caught up in exams, and was accepted by many universities, which the teachers and principal knew.
But today, these people came prepared, and the principal and teachers at the school were probably already bribed.
Even if they weren't bribed, they would likely be under some pressure and wouldn't dare to testify for her.
Seeing Katherine remain silent for a long time, Camlia felt she had the upper hand. "Katherine, got nothing to say, right? You know best whether you skipped classes frequently in high school! Just based on this, it proves you're not a good student or a good girl!"
"I know my wife better than anyone, and I don't need any proof to show she's a good person."."
Alex's deep voice came from behind the crowd, accompanied by steady footsteps gradually approaching.
Everyone turned around, stunned by the man's impeccably handsome face.
Especially Sherry, who had seen Alex before. Her heart still raced uncontrollably every time she saw him.
Alex had almost been her husband, almost married her. If it weren't for Katherine, she would have been Mrs. Melville!
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got, but she could only watch as Alex walked to Katherine's side, elegantly sat next to her, and took a sip from her teacup without hesitation.
His intimate gesture towards Katherine made everyone green with envy!
Even Fern, who had been crying with her head down, looked up and stared blankly at the extraordinarily handsome man sitting next to Katherine.
Katherine, on the other hand, didn't react. She glanced at him and then looked away indifferently.
Alex looked at the uninvited guests in the living room, lazily narrowing his eyes. "If you all came here just to slander my wife, it's not too late to leave now. If you continue to talk nonsense, don't blame me for being rude."
His tone was calm, but an invisible pressure seeped into everyone's bones, making them shiver.
The Galatea family had seen Alex's protection of Katherine before and didn't dare to speak further. Only Sherry still dared to look at him with girlish fantasies.
Camlia, though intimidated by Alex's aura, wasn't willing to give up. She mustered the courage to speak, "Sir, you must be Katherine's current husband, right?"
Alex coldly glanced at Camlia. He didn't like the way she added "current" before "husband," as if implying Katherine had other husbands before!
"I am her husband. Do you have something to say?"
Alex's imposing presence made the middle-aged woman shrink back a bit before she spoke, "Mr. Melville, it's good that you're here! I'm not slandering your wife, Katherine. It's because Katherine once took Fern's SAT scores, preventing my daughter from attending college. I'm here to seek justice for my daughter."
Alex's expression remained unchanged. He raised his hand and gently placed it on Katherine's shoulder, clearly showing his stance.
"I heard some of what you said when I came in. Katherine asked you for reasonable evidence. But it seems you can't provide any solid evidence."
Camlia, flustered by Alex's oppressive gaze, stammered, "I already said, the evidence is Katherine's high school attendance records. She skipped classes almost every day to hang out with some delinquents. She didn't study properly. How could she have gotten into Janetrick University on her own?”
“Sir, I know it might be hard for you to accept these things, but what I'm saying is the truth. Katherine's behavior in high school was improper. She wasn't a good girl. You might have been deceived."
Alex's face remained expressionless, his eyes deep and dark. "I already said I know best whether Katherine is a good girl."
Camlia was surprised by his trust in Katherine, but she wasn't convinced. Her eyes darted around as she said, "Sir, I can guess that you might be judging Katherine's purity based on some details from your wedding night. But don't be fooled by appearances. Nowadays, medical techniques are advanced. Some girls with improper behavior get their hymens repaired before getting married!"
