Chapter 504 Can't Go

Katherine smiled politely, then explained, "The press conference is over, and I thought I'd drop by. But am I coming at a bad time? Should I come back another day?"

Hellen quickly waved her over, inviting her in. "Katherine, come in! There's no such thing as a bad time! It's just that Vincent and Edwin had a little argument. I hope it didn't scare you!"

Katherine walked up to Hellen, glanced at Vincent, who was sitting on the couch with a sullen face, and then looked at Edwin standing by the stairs, frowning slightly in annoyance. She teased lightly, "You both aren't kids anymore."

Normally, Edwin wouldn't care if there were guests at home and would go straight upstairs. But because it was Katherine, he returned to the living room.

As the elder, Edwin looked at Katherine with rare concern. "You just finished your exam. Why didn't you go home to rest? I saw you dozing off at the press conference. Didn't sleep well last night?"

Katherine chuckled. She remarked, "You watched the live stream too?"

Edwin nodded in acknowledgment and explained, "We just watched the live stream of your exam."

Katherine nodded slightly in understanding.

Hellen was a bit surprised that Edwin turned back to show concern for Katherine. She snapped out of it and said, "Katherine, don't just stand there, have a seat! Edwin, you sit down too. If you don't sit, Katherine, as a guest, will feel awkward sitting down!"

Edwin sat back on the couch and gently said, "Katherine, you sit down too."

Katherine didn't stand any longer and obediently sat down.

Before she could speak, Edwin asked warmly, "Have you eaten? Are you hungry?"

Katherine shook her head in refusal. She remarked, "You don't have to be so polite to me. I'm not hungry."

Edwin nodded slightly in understanding. Then he suggested something else, "The flowers in the garden are blooming. Do you want me to take you to see them?"

Katherine frowned, a bit uncomfortable with Edwin's enthusiasm.

She subtly refused, "No need. I didn't come here to see the flowers."

Vincent snorted, "Did you hear that? Katherine doesn't care about your flowers! You're old, and all you do is fuss over those flowers. You don't even care about the company, leaving it to Bernard. You don't act like a father at all!"

Edwin seemed used to Vincent's sarcastic scolding and remained unmoved, his eyes gently focused on Katherine.

Hellen patted Vincent's hand, signaling him to say less in front of Katherine.

Vincent huffed, remaining silent.

Hellen turned to Katherine and apologized, "Sorry you had to see that! If you have something to say, just say it. Don't be shy!"

Katherine smiled at Hellen as she began to explain, "The reason I came today is..."

Meanwhile, the car was heading to the countryside.

Scarlett cried and complained to Alice, "Mom, look at what you've done! Now we're both being sent to the countryside!"

Alice was already in a bad mood, and hearing her daughter complain made her even more upset.

"Scarlett, it's one thing for others to blame me, but you too? Everything I did was for you!" she claimed impatiently.

Scarlett didn't want to be understanding toward Alice at this moment and snapped, "I know, but you weren't helpful at all and made things worse! Mom, we should have admitted our mistakes to my Grandparents and repented sincerely. Maybe they would have given us another chance instead of sending to the countryside!"

Alice was so angry that her chest hurt. She said incredulously, "Now you blame me? Didn't you also fail to admit your mistakes in time? Besides, how could we admit it in that situation? Once we admitted, it would be a done deal, and you'd have no chance to clear your name!"

Scarlett understood this, but she thought that any other worse outcome was better than being sent to the countryside! She didn't like the countryside at all!

Vincent said they were being sent to the countryside, but he didn't say for how long. Would they ever be allowed to return?

This time, they were sent with so many servants, clearly to keep an eye on them. Once they were in the countryside, they wouldn't have the freedom to leave the summer estate!

This wasn't the life she wanted!

The more Scarlett thought about it, the more unwilling she felt, and the more she wanted to cry.

Seeing Scarlett break down in tears, Alice felt a twinge of pity despite her dissatisfaction with her daughter's lack of understanding and complaints. After all, she had to rely on Scarlett for the rest of her life!

So, Alice patted Scarlett's shoulder, comforting her, "Alright, stop crying! Scarlett, now is not the time for us to fight! If we really have a falling out, it will be Katherine who laughs at us."

Hearing Alice say that Katherine would laugh at them, Scarlett tried to stop crying. She didn't want Katherine to see her as a fool.

Wiping her tears, she looked up at Alice. Then she asked, "So what can we do now? I've lost Bernard's trust and affection, my Grandparents' love, Edwin's sympathy, and the leverage of kidnapping Alex. There's no way to turn things around!"

Alice thought for a moment, then checked what the surrounding servants were doing. Some were on their phones, and some were dozing off.

Then she leaned close to Scarlett's ear and said, "I've no idea right now. We need to think long-term."

Scarlett thought Alice had a good idea. But hearing this, she frowned in disdain.

Did Alice really need to whisper that?

Alice continued, "The most important thing now is that we must not be sent to the summer estate. Once we're there, your grandfather's people will definitely keep an eye on us!"

Scarlett was slightly stunned, thinking Alice was right, but she whispered, "But we're already in the car!"

Alice looked at to the scared little child curled up in the back row. She plotted, "Didn't we bring Charles? We can use him."
