Chapter 489 Old Douchebag
"If you can't prove they're lying, then maybe it's true! Scarlett just wanted to help them get justice without taking credit, so she asked Lillian to be the go-between!"
Katherine almost wanted to applaud Alice for turning Scarlett into a hero with just a few words. Alice was shameless and quick on her feet.
"I don't have evidence, but I have this!" Katherine tapped her temple with her finger.
Her gesture left everyone confused.
Alice frowned. "What do you mean by that? Stop being so cryptic already."
Katherine crossed her arms and said slowly, "That 'poor' mother and daughter claimed I skipped classes and couldn't have good grades, right? Then I'll livestream a public exam with her daughter and see who can get into Janetrick University."
Scarlett knew the mother and daughter were fake, set up by Lillian. If they took the exam, they'd be exposed. She instinctively tugged Alice's hand, signaling her to stop the exam.
Alice got the hint and said, "That girl Fern was harmed by you and couldn't go to college. She had to work on the farm and hasn't studied for years! You took her spot at Janetrick and got the best education. Now you want to compare grades? Is that fair?"
Katherine replied calmly, "Don't worry. We'll only test basic knowledge. A true top student wouldn't forget everything just because they did some physical work for a few years, right? If it's so easy to forget, she wouldn't have been able to get into Janetrick on her own merit back then, would she?"
Knowing Alice and Scarlett were trying to dodge the exam, Katherine turned to Vincent and Hellen.
"Do you think this is fair?"
Vincent and Hellen exchanged a look and agreed.
Vincent nodded. "Katherine, I think this is fair."
Hellen added, "Katherine, I think it's okay too."
With their approval, Alice had nothing more to say.
Katherine continued, "Then, please find someone to set the exam questions! If I do it, Alice and Scarlett might accuse me of cheating, and we don't want endless disputes!"
Vincent said firmly, "Alright, I'll handle it."
"Thank you." Katherine smiled and looked at Alice and Scarlett. "I'll give Fern three days to review. Three days later, we'll have a press conference and livestream the exam. If herscores higher than me, I'll accept all the rumors online! But if not, it proves everything they've said is a lie!"
Alice and Scarlett glared at Katherine but kept quiet.
As Katherine was about to leave, she remembered something. "Oh, I don't have Camila and Fern's contact info, so Scarlett, could you pass on the message?"
She shrugged and said goodbye, "Let's wrap it up. Remember to watch the livestream in three days! If there's nothing else, I'm out."
She walked slowly toward the gate.
Vincent and Hellen almost simultaneously called out, "Katherine..." but she didn't stop.
She figured they felt guilty and wanted to invite her to stay for a meal or something.
But she didn't want to stay. Having said everything she needed to, she just wanted to leave.Bernard reassured his grandparents. "Don't worry. I'll see Katherine off."
Vincent nodded. "Yes, go see her off! The Mitchell family has caused her enough trouble."
Hellen added, "Bernard, talk to her properly. We owe her an apology."
Bernard replied, "Got it."
No one paid any more attention to Alice and Scarlett, probably because they were just annoying.
As Katherine walked out, she ran into Edwin, who had muddy hands and was about to come in.
Edwin was dressed neatly but always had dirty hands, probably from working in the garden.
He seemed more interested in his plants than family affairs.
Seeing Katherine, Edwin was surprised but smiled warmly, "Katherine, when did you get here?"
Although she knew he was her biological father, she had a poor impression of him and replied coldly, "I've been here for a while."
Edwin nodded. "Leaving now?"
Katherine just made a sound and was about to walk past him.
Edwin, still friendly, said, "The flowers you saw last time have bloomed more. Want to take a look before you go?"
Katherine paused. Those flowers were her mother's favorite, rare blue-gray blossoms like moonlight.
She found them beautiful, probably because she inherited her mother's taste.
But they were planted by Edwin, whom she despised, and that made her feel unlucky.
This guy had an affair with a woman like Alice, betrayed Claire, and caused Claire to go missing.
Trash.
He didn't even deserve a polite smile from her.
"No need." She said coldly and walked past him.
Edwin turned to look at her helplessly, his eyes gradually dimming.
