Chapter 652 You're Not an Outsider
Sunny scrunched up his face. "Wait! Katherine's missing?"
Jonathan shot back, "I don't know yet. I'm going to scope out the area. If she pops up, hit me up!"
With that, Jonathan bolted and hopped back into the elevator.
Ambrosia had just wrapped up her shower and strolled out in a bathrobe. "Who was that?"
Sunny spun around. "Jonathan. He’s looking for Katherine. She bailed on Sophia's party early, and now she's MIA."
Ambrosia, hearing this, dashed back to her room to call Katherine. No luck, her phone was dead. Feeling jittery, she yanked some clothes from her closet and started changing.
Sunny noticed Ambrosia's worried look. "Are you heading out to find Katherine too?"
Ambrosia, mid-change, nodded. "Yeah, you should head home."
Sunny shook his head, frowning. "Nah, I'm coming with you!"
Ambrosia didn't have time to argue. She quickly changed, grabbed her keys, and called Frank as she dashed out the door.
Sunny threw on his jacket and trailed right behind her.
They cruised around for ages, but no sign of Katherine. Her phone was still off.
Ambrosia pulled up at a big intersection. "We're close to your place. You should get out and head home."
Sunny checked the time; it was getting late. If he didn't get back soon, Bernard might send someone after him. Thinking of that, he didn't push it. "Alright. Ambrosia, if you find Katherine, hit me up!"
"Okay." Ambrosia nodded.
Sunny hopped out, waved, and headed home.
As soon as he walked in, Furry was on him. "Mr. Sunny Mitchell, why are you so late again? If Mr. Bernard Mitchell finds out, he's gonna flip!"
Sunny felt a twinge of guilt. "Where's Bernard? I did my homework before heading out. He shouldn't be too mad, right?"
Furry pointed to a half-empty coffee cup on the table. "Mr. Bernard Mitchell was just here waiting for you, and he was in a foul mood. I thought you were toast today."
Sunny glanced at the living room, swallowing nervously. "So... where's Bernard now?"
Furry sighed in relief, "Mr. Bernard Mitchell is upstairs with a guest. He stepped out and brought someone back. Otherwise, you'd be in deep trouble."
Sunny let out a breath. "A guest? Who?"
Bernard's friends would be at Sophia's party. Bernard should've been invited too, but he hated those things.
With Bernard's friends at the party, Sunny wondered who'd come over and made Bernard bring her upstairs.
Furry shrugged. "I don't know. But I heard the maids saying Mr. Bernard Mitchell brought a girl upstairs!"
It was rare for Bernard to invite a girl over.
Sunny's curiosity piqued. "I'm going up to check!"
Furry tried to block him. "Mr. Sunny Mitchell, you should probably just chill in your room and steer clear of Mr. Bernard Mitchell for now!"
Sunny brushed him off. "Relax, I'll just eavesdrop a bit. Won't get caught."
Furry tried again, but Sunny was too quick and slipped away.
Up in Bernard's room, he was peeling an orange and handed it to Katherine, who was sitting there. "Katherine, want some orange?"
Katherine waved it off. "Nah, thanks."
Bernard, not giving up, put the orange on the table and handed her a glass of milk. "Have a sip?"
Katherine took the milk but set it back down. "Mr. Mitchell, you don't have to be so nice."
Bernard sighed, "It's about caring."
Katherine gave him a distant look. "Thanks for caring, and thanks for picking me up."
Bernard replied, "No need to be so polite. I'm just glad you called me when you were in trouble."
She hadn't wanted to. But when Alex trapped her in the car and wouldn't let her leave, she couldn't think of anyone who could stand up to Alex.
If she had messaged Frank, Ambrosia, or Jonathan, it wouldn't have helped. Then, she asked Bernard for help.
Although Alex and Bernard didn't get along, Alex would probably have some respect for Bernard. And she was sure that if she asked Bernard for help, he would come.
So, when Alex wasn't paying attention, she secretly messaged Bernard, asking him to come and pick her up, and sent him her location.
Bernard arrived quickly. When Alex saw it was Bernard, he didn't seem to have much of a temper. After a few words, he let her go, allowing her to leave with Bernard.
However, she had intended for Bernard just to pick her up and take her home, or at least drop her somewhere she could catch a ride. But Bernard insisted on bringing her to the Mitchell Mansion.
"Mr. Mitchell, there's no real reason for you to take me to your house, right? It's getting late. I should head home. My friends will freak out if they can't find me." Katherine frowned, clearly unhappy.
Bernard looked deeply at Katherine. "This is your home and you should rest here. Your room is always ready for you."
Katherine replied, "I didn't plan on staying at your house."
Bernard pressed her shoulders, preventing her from getting up. "Katherine, be reasonable. You could go into labor any day now. I can only be at ease if you stay here."
Katherine said, "I live with friends. If anything happens, they'll take me to the hospital immediately. I appreciate your kindness, Mr. Mitchell, but it's not appropriate for me to stay here as an outsider."
Bernard's eyes filled with pain. "Katherine, how can you be an outsider? Grandparents and our father have all been thinking about you all these years."
