Chapter 23 Is the Beauty Alone?

Glancing in the direction Teresa pointed, Alexander's cold figure was passing through the glass corridor on the second floor, accompanied by a tall and beautiful curly-haired woman.

Katherine withdrew her gaze, her expression unchanged, and said in a calm tone, "Don't bother about him."
Teresa, puzzled, exclaimed, "Katherine, your husband is having a secret meeting with another woman upstairs, and you don't care?"

Katherine, nonchalantly sipping juice through a straw, replied, "I don't." Teresa, still reeling from her recent heartbreak and now fueled by alcohol, couldn't tolerate this situation.

"No way! Katherine, if you don't confront him, I will! Hmph, being married and still fooling around with other women, it's truly disappointing!"

Teresa raised her fist indignantly and stormed upstairs. Katherine, deciding not to intervene, simply furrowed her brow.

"Let Teresa go; Uncle won't harm his own niece," she thought. She didn't want to disrupt Alexander's affairs; their marriage was merely a facade, and it was normal for them to pursue their own interests outside.
Leaning lazily against the bar counter, Katherine observed the hustle and bustle of the bar, feeling a bit tired. If it weren't for Teresa, she would have been at home, having a nap after a satisfying meal.

At that moment, Frank and a few companions approached in a lively manner. "Katherine, why didn't you inform me in advance that you were coming? If the manager hadn't seen you and rushed to tell me, I wouldn't have known you were here!"
This bar was part of the entertainment industry under the Crescent Group, and Frank was the owner.
Katherine glanced at Frank and replied, "I'm just here to pick someone up, not planning to stay and play. I'll leave soon."
Curiously, Frank sat down beside her and asked, "Who are you picking up?" "My niece," Katherine responded. "Huh? Since when do you have a niece? Why didn't I know?"

Katherine couldn't be bothered by this unimportant question and instead asked him, "It's not even the end of the workday. Why aren't you at the company and out here playing?"

Thoughtfully, Frank opened a bottle of mineral water and handed it to Katherine.

"Socializing is also part of the job! Besides, there are still people at the company keeping an eye on things, so it's not a problem!"

Katherine took a sip of water and remarked, "You socialize every day!" Frank, knowing that Katherine doted on him, smiled confidently and said, "By the way, did Alexander notice that we know each other?"

Katherine replied casually, "No, we managed to get away with it." "That's good! It's a pity about the painting, though..." Frank's eyes lit up. "So you got it so quickly! How did you manage that?"

Katherine nonchalantly said, "He gave it to me."
"Gave it? Such an expensive painting, and he just gave it to you like that?"

"Well, he owed me a favor, so he gave me the painting in return."

Frank was skeptical and asked, "Just like that?" Katherine raised an eyebrow and retorted, "What else could it be?"
A mischievous smile played on Frank's lips as he said, "I don't think so! Alexander must have ulterior motives for you, catering to your interests!"
Katherine gave him a disdainful look and said, "Do you have something important to do? Weren't you supposed to socialize? Go on then!"
Frank shrugged, got up, and left, not daring to disturb Katherine any longer. Before leaving, he instructed the waiter to bring a variety of fruit platters, snacks, and a cup of hot milk to this table.

After Frank left, Katherine was momentarily blinded by the lights in the bar. She closed her eyes and rested, waiting for Teresa to return from catching the affair.

"Hello, do you mind if I sit here?"

A crisp and deep male voice cut through the blasting music in the bar and reached her ears.
Just as Katherine was about to squint and rest, she heard someone speaking.
Annoyed by the interruption, she furrowed her brows.
When she opened her eyes, she saw a man standing under the dazzling lights. He had a charming smile and handsome features.
He was dressed in black trousers and a white shirt, no tie, and the top buttons of his shirt were casually undone, revealing a hint of his collarbone.

A sense of elegance amidst his nonconformity. 'Truly sexy!' Without waiting for Katherine's response, the man's smile deepened slightly, and he asked in a gentle voice, "Are you alone?" Katherine lazily replied, "No."
The man smiled gracefully and asked, "Do you mind if I sit here?"
Although the man was handsome, Katherine was not polite.
"I do mind," she replied. The man paused for a moment, seemingly surprised that he was being rejected by a girl.
But he quickly smiled again and asked, "How old are you? Are you of legal age to be in a place like this?"
Katherine's expression was somewhat speechless as she said, "Sir, are you an undercover cop?" The man was taken aback for a moment, not understanding why she would ask that. "No, I'm not. Why do you ask?"
Katherine replied impatiently, "Then why are you asking me so many questions? Are you here to check my ID? My teacher told me not to talk to strangers!"
The man was momentarily stunned, finding her words both amusing and unexpected.
He explained, "I just saw you alone here and felt a bit worried. It's not safe for a girl to be alone in a place like this."
Katherine looked at him indifferently, picked up the glass of milk on the table, took a shallow sip, and said, "I'll be safe if you stay away from me."
Every word she spoke seemed to catch the self-proclaimed, well-mannered man off guard, surpassing his expectations.
The attractive man looked at Katherine with interest and smiled gently, "You're really interesting! I wonder if I have the honor of having your phone number?"
Just as he mentioned the phone, Katherine's phone suddenly vibrated. It was a call from Teresa. She didn't have time to deal with the charming man anymore and answered the call.
In a hurried voice, Teresa said, "Katherine! Please come up quickly!" Katherine refused, "I'm not going up. You come down." Teresa's voice trembled as she spoke, "I can't come down! Katherine, please come up and save me!"
Sensing something was wrong with Teresa's voice, Katherine furrowed her brow and asked, "What's happening? Where are you?"
The line went busy, and the call was disconnected. Katherine's expression turned grim. The charming man noticed her change in demeanor and asked, "What's wrong? Do you need help?" "Yes, I do," Katherine nodded and stood up.

The attractive man looked at her and said, "Well, feel free to let me know if there's anything I can do to help."
Katherine said, "Please move aside and don't block the way." The charming man stepped back helplessly, making way for her to pass.
He watched with anticipation as Katherine hurried towards the elevator. "Jonathan, what are you looking at here?" His companion passed by and asked, puzzled.
The charming man smiled faintly, "A very unique girl, drinking milk alone here. I wonder if she's of legal age."
His companion marveled, "What kind of girl can catch Mr. Mostow's attention? She's not ordinary!" Jonathan smiled without saying a word.
