Chapter 208 Katherine, I Like You
Alex nodded slightly to the person upstairs, then put his arm around Katherine's shoulder, ready to escort her upstairs.
Katherine, however, stayed put and shook her head. "I want to stay here and eat chicken wings. I'm not in the mood for socializing."
Alex didn't push her, ruffled her hair, and said, "Alright, take your time eating here. I'll go up and check things out, then come back for you."
Katherine nodded and cheerfully made an OK gesture before taking a bite of the skewer Alex had just handed her, savoring it.
After Alex entered the villa, Hilton handed Katherine another skewer of grilled chicken wings, a meaningful smile playing on his lips. "Impressive, you've managed to tame someone as difficult as Alex!"
Katherine smirked. "You're quite something too! It's your birthday, yet you invite a bunch of people over to cause a stir, and you still have to grill for them. Don't you tire yourself out?"
Hilton was taken aback, his handsome eyes showing a newfound admiration for Katherine. "Everyone else only cares about how my grilling tastes, but you're worried about whether I'm tired! I'm really touched!"
Saying this, Hilton put down the grill and moved towards Katherine, intending to give her a heartfelt hug!
Katherine disdainfully dodged Hilton's cheesy bear hug.
Hilton missed, but wasn't embarrassed. Instead, he laughed even harder. "You are right! Those folks inside are eating and drinking without a care! Katherine, you're the best. Keep an eye on the fire and make sure the wings don't burn. I'll be right back after a quick trip to the restroom!"
Katherine was silent.
Hilton clearly wanted to delegate the grilling task to her!
However, Katherine readily agreed. She didn't want to go inside and awkwardly face people she didn't know well, so she walked over to the grill, turned the chicken wings, and brushed on another layer of sauce.
She wondered, if the people inside would be too engrossed in their chatter to come out and eat, leaving all these chicken wings for her.
"Katherine!"Just as she was worrying someone might come out and take her wings, someone did!
Katherine looked up from the grill and saw Sunny standing on the other side.
Sunny had his usual stern expression, exuding a rich-kid vibe!
Every time he looked at her, he had this stern, almost glaring look, as if someone owed him money!
Katherine raised an eyebrow, her expression indifferent. "It's you! Did you finished your homework before coming out to play?"
Sunny always felt that Katherine's tone made it seem like she saw him as a little kid. He frowned unhappily. "I finished it a long time ago!"
"Good, then go play somewhere else!" Katherine didn't want to deal with Sunny any longer, so she lowered her head and continued focusing on grilling her beloved chicken wings.
Sunny didn't leave. He stood in front of the grill, staring at her intently. After hesitating for a while, he awkwardly spoke up, "Katherine, about last time, I'm here to apologize on Bernard's behalf. Bernard is usually fine, but he gets really upset whenever someone mentions the missing Laura."
Katherine casually took a bite of a chicken wing. "Is that so?"
Sunny's expression became strangely bashful. "Katherine, you're not mad at me, are you?"
Katherine replied carelessly, "Why would I be mad at you?"
Seeing that she truly didn't seem to be holding a grudge, Sunny finally breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good! As long as you're not mad, we can still be friends!"
Katherine found the topic boring and didn't respond.
Sunny awkwardly scratched the back of his head. "Katherine... to be honest, I kind of like you now!"
Katherine felt like she had heard a joke. She paused her sauce-brushing hand, then looked up at Sunny's flushed face, her expression unchanged. "Well, I appreciate your liking."
Seeing her indifferent reaction, Sunny frowned in annoyance. "Why don't you have any reaction?"
"What kind of reaction should I have?" Katherine fanned the charcoal, making the fire stronger for better grilling.
Sunny was so frustrated that his cheeks puffed up. "Are you serious? I'm confessing to you here!"
Katherine was indifferent and then answered, "You're just trying to help Scarlett deal with her rival, aren't you? Do you think I'd believe you?"
Sunny crossed his arms arrogantly and admitted. "Alright, I admit, I had that motive, but that's not the main reason anymore! Katherine, I genuinely have a special feeling for you now. I can't explain it, but I don't dislike you anymore!"
Katherine chuckled. In their high school world, not disliking someone equated to liking them.
If that were the case, she'd end up liking a lot of people every day!
"Sunny." A soft voice suddenly called out from behind. It was Scarlett calling Sunny.
Sunny turned around and saw Scarlett coming out of the villa. He immediately looked worried. "Scarlett, why are you coming out dressed so lightly?"
Saying this, he quickly took off his jacket and hurried over to drape it over Scarlett's shoulders!
Scarlett smiled appreciatively. "It's okay, I'm not cold."
Sunny stubbornly held Scarlett's shoulders, insisting, "Even if you're not cold, you should wear more. What if you catch a cold!"
Helpless, Scarlett accepted Sunny's jacket. Then she looked over at Katherine, who was busy with the grill, and greeted her, "Katherine, why didn't you come in with Alex?"
Katherine didn't even look up, focused on her grilling, and replied casually, "I have social anxiety. Crowded places make me uncomfortable."
Seeing that Katherine was busy and had no time to chat, Scarlett patted her brother's arm. "Sunny, how could you just stand there watching a girl work without helping? Boys should be gentlemen. Help Katherine with the grilling. It's not good for a girl to handle so much smoke!"
Always obedient to Scarlett, Sunny rolled up his sleeves and walked over. "Leave it to me. You and Scarlett sit over there. Stay away from the smoke!"
Katherine wasn't entirely pleased. She worried her chicken wings might get ruined, so she skeptically asked, "Are you sure you can handle it?"
Eager to help and meet her expectations, Sunny insisted, "Of course I can! My classmates and I often barbecue during breaks, and everyone says my grilled wings are the best!"
Katherine then stepped aside. "Really? Then I'll be lucky to try your wings today!"
Sunny prepared to showcase his skills, hoping to impress Katherine!
At that moment, Scarlett suddenly approached and affectionately linked arms with Katherine. "Katherine, leave this to Sunny. Let's sit in the gazebo and chat for a bit. You deserve a break!"
