Chapter 33 I am innocent!
She thought, ‘We are just a fake couple; there is never any trust to begin with.’
Katherine felt a bit disappointed but didn't dwell on it. She shook her head and calmly replied, "It wasn't me."
Alexander's face remained emotionless. "Let's go."
The strong smell of food in the store made him unwilling to stay any longer. As they were about to leave, Sunny was taken aback, her brows furrowing even more.
She couldn't accept things ending like this. She ran over, opened her arms, and stood in front of Alexander, who was about to leave. "Alexander, the evidence is right there. How can you still believe her?"
Alexander narrowed his eyes. "The watch is still here. What do you want me to do to her?"
Sunny persisted, "But this woman is a thief! Alexander, how can you keep a thief by your side?"
Alexander's expression turned cold. "Who are you calling a thief?"
Sunny's back stiffened, feeling a bit afraid of Alexander. But her sense of justice wouldn't let her back down. She stubbornly pointed at Katherine and said, "It's her."
Alexander's face darkened. "Say it again."
Sophie intervened just in time, gently persuading, "Alright, Sunny, please stop! It's not worth making everyone unhappy over my watch. I feel really sorry about it!"
She took the watch from Sunny's hand and walked generously towards Katherine.
"Katherine, if you like this watch, I can give it to you!"
With that, Sophie took Katherine's hand and put the watch on her right wrist, smiling brightly and friendly. "Consider it a gift from me for our newly formed acquaintance!"
Sunny frowned, unhappy. "Sophie, she stole your things. Why would you give it to her?"
Sophie looked at Sunny helplessly. "Sunny, please don't say that. Katherine probably didn't do it on purpose."
Sunny grumbled in dissatisfaction, "Sophie, you're too kind!"
Katherine looked down at the exquisite watch on her wrist. It was indeed beautiful, with a few large diamonds embedded on the dial.
She smiled, admiring and caressing the watch, then looked at Sophie. "This is too precious. You just said it was the last gift your Grandfather gave you before he passed away. Can you really give it to me?"
Seeing Katherine's surprised expression, Sophie suddenly felt that it wasn't a big deal after all. She smiled and said, "Of course! Although this watch is important to me, as long as it's not in the hands of strangers, it's fine. Katherine, I feel a connection with you, so giving it to you is another kind of memento for me!"
Katherine smiled. "Then I gladly accept it."
Sunny couldn't stand Katherine's actions and sneered, "Shameless!"
Katherine glanced at Sunny, ignoring him. She raised her arm, shook the watch on her wrist, and asked Alexander, "Honey, if I say I like this watch, will you buy it for me?"
Alexander was surprised.
He looked at her. "Sure."
"Great!" Katherine nodded in satisfaction, carefully took off the watch, and threw it into the fondue on the table!
Her move stunned everyone. That was an expensive watch!
Sophie felt a pang in her heart. "My watch."
Sunny was shocked and angry. "Katherine, what are you doing!"
Katherine calmly took a tissue from the table and carefully wiped her own wrist and every finger that had touched the watch as if she had just touched something disgusting.
After she finished, she threw the tissue away and said to Alexander, "Honey, you don't need to buy me a watch. Just compensate her for the money!"
With that, she turned around and left alone.
Sophie, no longer able to understand, felt a bit embarrassed. "Alex, why is Katherine like this?"
Alexander watched Katherine leave, feeling secretly pleased.
He looked at Sophie, and his expression returned to normal. "She's just being childish. Send the bill to Leander, and he will compensate you tenfold."
Sophie was taken aback and a bit hurt. "Alex, we've known each other for so many years. You know that it's not about the money for the watch because the watch is really important to me. Isn't what Katherine did a bit too much?"
Alexander looked at her. "If it's so important, why did you easily give it away? Once you give something to someone, it's up to them how they handle it."
Sophie's expression stiffened.
Sunny wanted to speak up for Sophie. "Alexander! That woman..."
Alexander's cold gaze turned towards him. "And you, if you continue to defame my wife in front of me, don't ever call me again."
Wife? Alexander actually considered Katherine, his wife!
Sunny was completely stunned!
Alexander had already walked away.
Sunny clenched his fists, unwillingly shouting, "Alexander, if she's your wife, then what is Sophie?"
Alexander paused, not responding, and caught up with Katherine.
Teresa snapped out of it and hurriedly followed. "Katherine, wait for me!"
Sophie and Sunny were not happy.
Onlookers started whispering, and Sunny glared at them, cursing, "What are you all looking at? Go and eat your fondue!"
The car first dropped off Teresa at home.
With one less talkative person, the car fell into an unusually quiet state.
Katherine rolled down the car window and let the evening breeze in.
"That watch just now, worth two hundred thousand dollars."
Upon hearing Alexander's calm voice, Katherine snorted, "My innocence, priceless!"
Alexander smirked, "So, do I owe you this time?"
Katherine's big eyes looked at him, "Do you also suspect that I took Sophie's watch?"
Alexander looked at her, "Does it really matter whether I suspect you or not?"
Katherine frowned, "Although we are a fake couple, we are real partners! I believe there should be a basic level of trust between partners. Otherwise, it will be difficult for us to cooperate happily in the future!"
Alexander nodded with a smile that was not a smile, "Well, you have a point. However, I didn't suspect you today."
"Really?" Katherine was pleasantly surprised, somewhat disbelieving.
Alexander smoothed out a few strands of hair on her head that were tousled by the evening breeze, "If you like money, my luxury items are worth more. You can take them from my house instead of taking her watch."
Katherine laughed, "What if I plan to pack up all the valuable things in your house and leave when the three months are up?"
Alexander, who had always been indifferent, softened and said, "There's nothing valuable in the house, just old stuff. Whatever you want, you can tell me, and I'll have someone buy you a new one."
Alexander had previously said that within three months, he could give her anything except for his feelings, and it was indeed not a lie!
Katherine sighed, "I just want to finish these three months quickly."
Alexander was somewhat displeased, "I made you spend three months with me, and you find it so difficult?"
Katherine pouted, "Trouble! Your wealthy family has too many troubles, and I don't want to get involved!"
Alexander looked at Katherine, who appeared annoyed, feeling a slight unease in his heart.
She seemed to really despise the Melville family.
Suddenly, Katherine's phone received a text message.
She picked up her phone and opened it. It was from an unknown number: [If you don't want your relationship with Mr. Melville to be exposed, meet me at the coffee shop under Star Bridge tomorrow afternoon at three o'clock!]
The message was accompanied by a picture showing her and Alexander sitting face to face in the fondue restaurant. Judging from the angle, it was taken from outside the window.
Katherine furrowed her brow, feeling puzzled.
