Chapter 36 Adulterous Relationship in the Lounge
Jonathan handed the car keys to the valet to park and then gallantly escorted Katherine into his art gallery.
Not far away, an orange sports car was parked by the roadside, and the occupants were watching them.
Furry cautiously persuaded, "Mr. Mitchell, I think they're just here for the art exhibition, no affair involved. Our family and the Melville family already have a strained relationship, so tracking Mr. Melville's wife like this might deepen the conflict between our families!"
Sunny retorted, "You don't understand! A man and a woman going to an art exhibition together definitely means something is going on!"
With that, Sunny got out of the car and reproachfully headed towards the gallery to keep an eye on Katherine.
The gallery staff at the entrance stopped him. "I'm sorry, sir, you're not invited, so you can't enter."
Sunny frowned discontentedly and said, "I'm a member of the Mitchell family, and we are old friends with the Mostow family. Why can't I go in?"
After hearing this, the staff member turned and checked the invited guest list with his colleague.
"Only Bernard Mitchell is on the invitation list, not your name."
"Well..." Sunny overheard their private conversation and cleared his throat, "My brother was busy today, so I'm here on his behalf!"
After a moment of consideration, the staff member said, "Then let him in."
"Mr. Mitchell, please come in."
"You should have let me in a long time ago!" Sunny raised an eyebrow and confidently walked in.
Inside the gallery, Katherine looked up at the painting of "Cloud and Crane" on the wall, feeling somewhat entranced.
"You seem to be more interested in Lotus than those world-renowned paintings," Jonathan's gentle voice came from behind her.
He had just greeted a few friends and now stood by Katherine's side.
Katherine glanced at him and said, "Yes, I am. I like it."
Curiously, Jonathan asked, "Why do you like Lotus so much? Her art is actually quite niche and not very popular."
"Because she is my idol!" Katherine's mood was complicated as she saw her mother's early paintings. She almost said the word "mom."
Jonathan smiled and said, "I see! I'm lucky to have seen your idol then."
Katherine widened her eyes and looked at Jonathan. "You've met Lotus? When was that?"
Jonathan nodded and said, "I had the privilege of meeting her when I was a child. These three paintings were also bought from her by my father at that time. Later, my father gave these three paintings to me."
Excitedly, Katherine asked, "So, what do you think Lotus is like as a person?"
Jonathan pondered for a moment and replied, "She is a very beautiful lady. She is gentle and calm, with unique insights into things. But she has a somewhat proud personality, just like her own works, not catering to the masses."
Katherine thought to herself, 'That's right, she is just like my mother in my memory. Mother was a proud person, but very gentle towards her family.'
Katherine then asked him, "Jonathan, are these three paintings for sale?"
Jonathan understood her intentions. "Do you want to buy them?"
Katherine nodded.
Jonathan smiled and said, "I'm sorry, I can't sell them. Each one here holds sentimental value for me; they are not for sale."
Katherine furrowed her brows, thinking, 'It will be troublesome if he doesn't sell them.'
Suddenly, Jonathan leaned in close to her ear and whispered, "But if you like them, I can give them to you as a gift for our future marriage."
Katherine awkwardly smiled and gave him a slightly disdainful look, ignoring his joke.
As she was thinking about how to persuade Jonathan to sell her the three paintings, she suddenly had a foreboding feeling!
Katherine frowned, her face turning grim.
"What's wrong?" Jonathan noticed her unease and asked in a low voice.
Tiny beads of sweat formed on Katherine's forehead, and her lips turned pale. "I suddenly feel a bit unwell."
Jonathan asked with concern, "Perhaps the air conditioning in the gallery is too strong, and you caught a cold?"
"Maybe," Katherine said, her discomfort causing her to clench her teeth, her body starting to tremble slightly.
Jonathan took off his jacket and draped it over her, gently saying, "Let me take you to the lounge for some rest. There's no air conditioning there, and the temperature is higher."
"Thank you." Katherine, feeling unsteady, could only accept Jonathan's support and followed him.
Sunny recorded everything on his phone. He sneered, "Two people going to an empty lounge, who would believe that nothing happened!"
Sunny thought he had found something to use against Katherine. He immediately sent Fiona the location of the gallery!
In the lounge, Katherine's face grew paler. She felt weak, and her teeth started to chatter.
Jonathan brought her a cup of hot water. "Feeling any better? Should I take you to the hospital?"
Katherine, in discomfort, held her stomach and shook her head slowly. "No need to bother; I'll just rest here for a while. You don't have to worry about me; go and be with your friends."
Jonathan didn't leave. He sat beside her, anxiously watching her. "You seem really reluctant to go to the hospital."
Katherine paused for a moment, not denying it.
No one would be happy to be seen through by others.
She indeed didn't like going to the hospital. When she was a child and got sick, her mother took her to the hospital, but when she woke up, her mother was gone.
She was left alone in the hospital for seven days, feeling anxious every day.
Later, her father, Joshua, came and told her that her mother had passed away, and he took her back home from the hospital.
Jonathan realized he was right, so he didn't ask further. "My personal doctor will be here soon. You should lie down and rest for now. I'll call for you when the doctor arrives."
"Thank you." Katherine was in too much discomfort to refuse. She obediently lay down on the small bed in the lounge, curling up, trying to ease the pain in her abdomen.
She wrapped herself in Jonathan's jacket, and later, Jonathan instructed someone to bring a blanket to cover her.
At that moment, Sandra and Fiona were walking towards the gallery. Sandra was being supported by Fiona. Sandra complained, "Fiona, why did you bring me to the gallery? I don't like art exhibitions! I even made soup, waiting for Katherine to come back and drink it!"
Fiona, supporting Sandra, deliberately said, "Grandma, once you go in, you'll see Katherine!"
Sandra was taken aback and asked in confusion, "Fiona, you mean Katherine is also here?"
Fiona smirked and nodded.
The gallery staff recognized Sandra and respectfully invited her inside without any obstruction.
Fiona led Sandra to meet Sunny in the gallery, and then they quickly took Sandra to the lounge!
Ignoring the gallery staff's attempts to stop him, Sunny kicked open the door to the lounge and saw Katherine leaning weakly in Jonathan's arms.
Initially, Sandra was still puzzled, but after seeing the situation in the lounge, she exclaimed in shock, "Katherine?! What are you doing here!"
