Chapter 216 Be Good

Scarlett had never seen Bernard and Sunny confront each other like this before, and for a moment, she didn't know how to respond.

Almost everyone knew that Sunny had always been afraid of Bernard.

When Bernard said one, Sunny didn't dare say two. Today, Sunny standing up to Bernard for Katherine was unprecedented.

People nearby were watching the commotion from a distance. Scarlett didn't want those people to laugh at themy, so she tugged on Bernard's sleeve. "Bernard, let it go! Sunny is right. Maybe I misunderstood Katherine at that time. Maybe she really kicked me by accident! Bernard, don't blame Sunny; he's still young and doesn't understand."

As she spoke, she stood up gracefully, looking aggrieved, and sighed. "I'll go upstairs now to talk to Katherine and Alex. It's better to clear things up so there are no more misunderstandings."

Scarlett walked towards the stairs, genuinely intending to find Katherine and Alex.

In fact, she had wanted to do clear things up for a while.

Earlier, she pretended to feel ill. Although Alex stayed with her, as soon as she felt a bit better, He immediately got up and left to find Katherine without even looking back.

The thought of Alex and Katherine being alone in the guest room, with Katherine possibly undressing after getting wet, filled her with a lump of anxiety she couldn't shake.

No way! Alex was her man, and she would never allow Katherine to get close to him!

Now she had a perfect excuse to go upstairs and check!

As Bernard watched Scarlett's thin frame walking upstairs alone, he frowned worriedly and then coldly glared at Sunny. "Sunny, you're something else. You can't excel in your studies, but you've learned to bully Scarlett with outsiders!"

Feeling extremely wronged by Bernard's sarcasm, Sunny protested, "I didn't! Bernard, of course, I'm protecting Scarlett, but Katherine isn't the person you think! Bernard, you don't know. I've bullied Katherine many times for Scarlett, but she still helps me without holding a grudge! I'm sure she's a good person! I'll go with Scarlett to find Katherine now and ask her what's going on! There must be some misunderstanding!"

With that, Sunny turned and hurried after Scarlett upstairs.

One reason was that he really wanted to avoid staying downstairs alone facing Bernard.

Another reason was that he was still holding a plate of grilled chicken wings, eager to let Katherine taste his cooking and see if she liked it!

In the living room, Bernard sat in an upholstered armchair, looking refined but stern. He tiredly pinched the bridge of his nose.

Scarlett was hopelessly devoted, and Sunny was heartless; neither of them seemed promising!

If Laura were still here, she wouldn't let him worry like this.

Laura had always been more resilient, sensible, and intelligent than other kids her age.

During an IQ test, the doctor said she was exceptionally gifted, a rare genius. Before she even started daycare, she knew almost all the words in the dictionary.

Bernard still remembered those days when he was in public elementary school. His mom, Claire, would hold Laura at the street corner near their home every day, waiting for the school bus to pick him up.

Every time the school bus arrived, Laura would jump out of their mother's arms, a chubby little girl stumbling towards him. Even if she fell, she wouldn't cry. She'd get up, pat the dirt off, and continue running happily into his arms, calling him "brother Bernard" in her sweet, childlike voice.

That was a rare period of simple happiness in Bernard's life, short but still warming him to this day.

He wondered where Laura was now and whether she and their mother were doing well.

The disappearance of his mother and Laura was a permanent pain in Bernard's heart!

He hated that he was too young back then to stand up for his mother. This led to her complete disappointment in the Mitchell family, and she left with his sister, disappearing without a trace.

As Bernard reminisced, others gathered in groups, discussing.

One person questioned, "Who is this Katherine thatBernard and Sunny were talking about?"

A second guy added, "Is she some rich heiress?"

A third person answered, "I don't know, never heard of her!"

Someone else remarked, "Whoever she is, she must be important! To make the two Mitchell brothers argue over her, she must be someone special!"

Hearing the discussions, Bernard cleared his throat and gave them a cold glance.

Everyone immediately felt the tension and quietly dispersed.

One thing those gossipers said was true.

That was—Katherine was indeed not simple!

Sunny, who had never been interested in girls, was captivated by her. What was Katherine up to? Wasn't having Alex enough? Did she have to mess with the Mitchell family, too?

Bernard squinted, thinking. He even began to suspect that the time Katherine helped his grandfather Macus was part of a deliberate plan.

Upstairs, in the guest room, Katherine's face was flushed, and she clenched her teeth in embarrassment and anger. "Alex, if you don't let go, I'm going to get mad."

It had been several minutes, and he was still holding her, kissing her neck lightly and heavily.

That kind of pressure would definitely leave marks!

Hearing Katherine's urgency, Alex finally gave her a light peck on her pale neck. Then he straightened up, admiring his "work" with narrowed eyes.

His long fingers gently brushed the spots on her neck, and he said calmly, "Katherine if you don't want anyone to see the marks on your neck, stay here obediently. I'll go get you some barbecue."

Katherine was so angry she laughed.

Damn, this sly man! Alex did it on purpose!

He didn't want her to wear that dress outside, so he did this.

It was just a spaghetti strap dress, showing a bit of shoulder and back. Why couldn't she go out in it?

His possessiveness was really twisted!

The more Katherine thought about it, the angrier she got, puffing up her cheeks like a pufferfish.

Seeing her angry and upset, Alex found her adorable. He ruffled her hair playfully. "Alright, wait here!"

With that, he turned and left the room to get food for Katherine.

After Alex left, Katherine angrily went to the bathroom. She looked in the mirror at those hickeys on her neck, frowning in frustration, her face flushing and her heart racing.

She could almost picture him acting like a vampire on her neck.

Just then, someone knocked on the door.

Was he back so soon?

No, he wouldn't knock.

Katherine grabbed a clean towel and wrapped it around her neck, making sure to cover the suggestive marks before going to open the door.
