Chapter 565 You Are Being Immature
Frank spun around, all jittery, and blurted out, "But what if Katherine does something dumb? It's clear she’s head over heels for Mr. Melville. What if she..."
Ambrosia cut him off, "What crap are you spewing? When have you ever seen Katherine do something dumb? Just 'cause of some guy? Nah, Katherine's got her own way of handling stuff."
Frank plopped back on the couch, grumbling, "Alex, that two-faced jerk, is such a sleazeball. Acts all lovey-dovey with Katherine but is out there hitting on other chicks! He's way worse than me!"
Katherine slipped out of the private room and headed up to the rooftop to clear her head.
Breaking Dawn Bar was owned by Crescent Group, and most of the staff knew her, so she could wander around without any hassle.
Leaning on the railing, she stared into the distance, her mind a mix of calm and chaos.
Suddenly, she heard a noise from the balcony below. Snapping out of her thoughts, she looked down.
There was Alex, standing alone, smoking.
'From the day I met Alex, I never really doubted his character, just thought he was a bit standoffish. Who knew he was such a good actor! The real reason he kept dodging our marriage registration is 'cause he's already married to someone else. Bigamy, huh? So that's the deal!' Katherine thought.
Just then, a girl in a spaghetti strap dress sauntered up to Alex and started chatting him up. "Mr. Melville, you here alone?"
Alex blew out a puff of smoke, glanced at her, and didn't bother answering.
Seeing he wasn't pushing her away, the girl moved closer with a flirty smile. "Mr. Melville, I heard you're married? Why didn't you bring your wife?"
Alex, holding his cigarette with those long fingers, squinted his eyes slightly. His tone was cool but had a hint of something more, "Who told you that?"
The girl’s smile grew even more seductive as she pressed on, "I saw those posts online about you being married! Not true?"
Alex chuckled coldly, "Most of that online stuff is BS. Smart folks don't buy into it."
The girl's eyes lit up, "So, Mr. Melville, you're still single?"
Alex exhaled another puff of smoke, his tone firm, "That's right. I'm single."
Katherine laughed out loud, thinking, 'This is hilarious! I thought I had him pegged, but I was so wrong! I actually mistook a scumbag for a stand-up guy? I must've been blind!'
The girl on the lower balcony heard the laugh and looked up, but saw no one. "Weird, Mr. Melville, did you hear someone laughing?"
Alex flicked his cigarette ash and followed her gaze, but saw nothing. "Nah, probably just the wind."
The girl looked puzzled, thinking, 'I swear I heard a laugh, mocking and kinda sad. Am I hearing things? Whatever! I finally get to talk to Mr. Melville; can't blow this chance!'
The girl snapped back to reality and whipped out her phone. "Mr. Melville, if you're single, how about we swap numbers?"
Meanwhile, Katherine was in a cab heading home when her phone buzzed with a call from Alex.
She didn't ignore it; just stared at the screen for a sec before picking up.
Alex's deep voice came through, "Babe, where you at?"
Katherine answered coolly, "On my way back."
Alex sounded a bit ticked off, "Why'd you leave without telling me?"
Katherine kept her tone icy. "Alex, you rarely get a break and come back. You should hang with your friends. I didn't wanna cramp your style, so I bounced."
Alex was quiet for a few seconds, then his tone got more serious, "Where are you now? I'll come get you!"
Katherine shot back, "No need, I'm almost home. Enjoy your night out; I won't bug you."
And with that, she hung up.
Katherine got back to Melville Manor.
'Honestly, why do I even come back here? Maybe 'cause there's still a lot I need to figure out, and I need to chill and think things through before dealing with it all,' she thought.
As she walked into the hall, only a few servants were still up. Jackie and Sandra were already asleep.
She had just reached the second floor when she bumped into Fiona, who was coming out of her room.
Seeing Katherine, Fiona immediately put her hands on her hips and griped, "Why are you back so late? You left me with a little kid! I don't know how to take care of kids! Charles kept crying for you. Do you know how hard it was to get him to sleep? It was driving me nuts!"
Before Katherine and Alex went out, they had left Charles with Fiona so Jackie and Sandra could rest.
Katherine's face was blank as she said, "I asked Alex to watch Charles, but he insisted on coming with me, so I had to trouble you. If you wanna blame someone, blame Alex. He's Alex's adopted son, not mine."
Fiona sensed something was off with Katherine but couldn't quite figure it out. She craned her neck to look behind Katherine, "Where's Alex? Why are you back alone?"
Katherine replied, "He went to find Hilton and the others to drink. He'll be back later." With that, she walked past Fiona towards her room.
Fiona frowned, sensing Katherine was in a bad mood. Worried, she followed and asked, "What's up with you? Why do you seem so down?"
Katherine lowered her lashes and said, "Nothing, just tired."
Fiona furrowed her brows. "You didn't have a fight with Alex, did you?"
Katherine replied, "No."
Fiona crossed her arms and pouted, "Katherine, Alex is super busy. He finally gets a chance to come back and spend time with you, and you still wanna fight with him. That's just you being unreasonable!"
Katherine sneered coldly, "Yeah! I'm unreasonable, I'm the bad one! Don't worry, Alex will find a good wife, and you'll be happy."
Katherine ignored her and walked into her room.
Fiona quickly realized she had messed up. She scratched her head, wanting to go in and explain, but Katherine shut her out.
