Chapter 377 Mind Your Own Business

Katherine looked at Bernard with a polite but distant expression. "Mr. Mitchell, I worked at the Mitchell Group for just a few days before you fired me!"

Bernard's face showed a hint of guilt. "If you want to come back, you can, for any position!"

Katherine smiled. "You misunderstood. I just want my wages for those days. I don't work for free!"

Bernard looked taken aback.

It was clear she wanted to cut ties completely. Did she really not want to acknowledge him as her brother anymore?

Katherine raised an eyebrow. "What? You don't want to pay?"

Bernard snapped back. "No, you can have as much as you want."

He pulled out his wallet and started writing a check.

Katherine mocked, "Trying to brush me off with a check again?"

Bernard paused, remembering his past attempts to brush her off with checks, feeling ashamed.

He put the checkbook away. "You don't like checks, so I'll transfer the money?"

Katherine said, "I want cash. I only worked a few days, not enough for a check or transfer."

Bernard hesitated. "I don't have much cash. I'll have Billy bring it to you later."

Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Not much? How much do you have?"

Bernard checked his wallet. "About two thousand dollars."

"That's enough!" Katherine walked over, took his wallet, and counted out fifteen hundred dollars. "Fifteen hundred for a few days is a bit much, but I closed a big deal. The extra is my commission! Any objections, Mr. Mitchell?"

Bernard couldn't object to such a small amount.

He looked at Katherine, hoping she wouldn't be so distant. "Laura..."

"My name is Katherine," she interrupted, disliking the old name.

Bernard corrected himself. "Katherine, I know it's hard for you to accept me as your brother and forgive my past behaviors. I'll try not to disturb you.

But if you're wronged in the Melville family, or if Alex bullies you, come to me. I'll always be there for you."

Katherine smiled. "Mr. Mitchell, you're overthinking. I'm not Scarlett; I'm not fragile, I don't suffer much, and I won't let anyone bully me."

Bernard was speechless, looking at her bitterly, his eyes full of unsaid words.

Anton stepped forward, politely seeing Bernard out. "Mr. Mitchell, Mrs. Melville needs to rest now. Please leave."

Bernard sighed, glanced at Anton, and left.

As he walked out, he saw his car still parked at the entrance; Billy hadn't driven away.

He squinted slightly and got in the car.

In the back seat, Scarlett and Fiona were chatting. When Bernard got in, they stopped.

Scarlett, sitting in the middle, looked at her brother. "Bernard, are you done?"

Bernard, exhausted, leaned back and rubbed his temples. "Didn't I tell you to go home first?"

Scarlett pouted. "If I left, you wouldn't have a car, so I had Billy wait."

Bernard responded indifferently, closed his eyes, and stopped talking.

Fiona, curious, leaned forward. "Bernard, did Katherine agree to leave Alex?"

Bernard opened his eyes and glanced at Fiona. "You really want her to leave Alex?"

Fiona nodded. "Yes! If she leaves, Alex will come back to Scarlett. I know you care about Scarlett and want her happy!"

Bernard's eyes narrowed. "Fiona, mind your own business. And, Katherine is your sister-in-law now, I want you to show her some respect!"

Fiona was stunned. "Bernard?"

Scarlett was also shocked. Did she hear wrong? Bernard just called Katherine Fiona's sister-in-law.

Bernard continued, "Fiona, the Mitchell family car isn't for Melville family members. Get out now!"

Feeling intimidated, Fiona awkwardly got out. She had planned to go to the Mitchell family with Scarlett.

After Fiona left, Billy started the car and drove away.

Scarlett asked casually, "Bernard, what did you talk about with Katherine today?"

"None of your business."

Bernard, in a bad mood, spoke coldly.

Scarlett moved closer, acting soft. "Can't you tell me? I'm curious! Your relationship with Katherine wasn't good before, so why visit her today?"

Bernard glanced at her coldly. "Is Charles willing to talk to you now?"

Scarlett's face stiffened.

Bernard sternly said, "Focus on your own affairs and be less curious about others!"

Scarlett, surprised by his harshness, made a pitiful face. "Bernard, I know I should focus on Charles, but Alex doesn't want me anymore, and I feel really sad, so."

Bernard interrupted, "If a man doesn't love you, don't hold on to him. Find something meaningful to do! Your life doesn't have to revolve around a man!"
