Chapter 246 Record a Video
Katherine wasn't shocked that Bernard would trust Sophie.
She calmly said, "Mr. Mitchell, here's the thing. An hour ago, Sophie and Scarlett told me they were going shopping and asked me if I could watch Charles. I refused several times, but they insisted, so I had to watch him while he slept. I didn't touch him at all. I have no idea how he got hurt."
Hearing this, Scarlett cried even harder in Bernard's arms, blaming herself. "Bernard! It's all my fault. I shouldn't have left Charles with Katherine. I never thought she'd do this to my baby."
Sophie added angrily, "Bernard, don't believe Katherine's excuses! When we got back, Charles was crying and trying to move away. If we had come back later, who knows what she might have done! Let's call the police and have her arrested. Child abuse is serious!"
Bernard glanced at Sophie but didn't heed her advice. He looked seriously at Katherine. "How can you prove you didn't touch Charles?"
Scarlett, holding the child, timidly turned her face from Bernard's arms, her voice weak with tears. "Katherine, why, why are you doing this to him?"
Sophie also questioned, "Katherine, is it because Charles is Scarlett and Alex's child that you're jealous and deliberately hurt him out of spite?"
Jealous? Katherine scoffed lightly, ignoring Sophie, and looked at the tearful Scarlett. "Usually, a mother would take her injured child to the hospital first and then find out who did it. But Miss Mitchell seems more interested in damaging my reputation than caring about her child's injuries!"
Scarlett's eyes flickered with guilt, her face showing a hint of unease. "I'm not trying to smear anyone. I'm really upset about Charles's injuries! Bernard, get a doctor here!"
Sophie, disliking Katherine, spoke up for her friend, "Scarlett is understandably anxious. She's worried about Charles's injuries. Bernard and I are also deeply concerned and will take Charles to the hospital now! Katherine, stop deflecting and own up to your wrongdoing. Get ready to face jail!"
Katherine glanced at Sophie indifferently, then turned her gaze to Bernard and said, "Mr. Mitchell, you asked how I can prove I didn't touch the child, right?"
Bernard stared at her seriously. "Do you have a way to prove it?"
"Yes." Katherine nodded calmly and explained, "Since I'm not experienced with kids and was worried something might go wrong, I turned on the recording function on my phone when I entered the office. It's been recording the whole time without any interruptions."
Hearing this, Scarlett's eyes widened in shock. What? She recorded a video?
Sophie was also surprised. Could it be that Katherine didn't cause Charles's injuries?
Bernard narrowed his eyes and asked, "Where is it? The recording?"
Katherine pointed and said, "Mr. Mitchell, my phone is propped up next to the photo frame on your desk. You can stop the recording and watch the playback now. Also, the surveillance at the entrance of your office captured the exact time I came in. My phone's recording started at that exact time and didn't stop. The video recording will prove that I never touched Charles."
After hearing Katherine's explanation, Bernard patted Scarlett's shoulder, which was still in his arms, and handed her to Sophie. He then walked over to the desk, picked up the phone, and checked it.
The phone was indeed still recording. Bernard stopped it and watched the entire hour-long footage of Katherine watching the child at high speed.
Afterward, Bernard walked over and handed the phone back to Katherine, saying, "It has nothing to do with Ms. Galatea."
Bernard's doubtful gaze turned to Scarlett. "Scarlett, this means that Charles's injuries were already there before you brought him here. What happened?"
Being questioned by Bernard, Scarlett felt extremely guilty. She blinked, and large tears fell.
Yes, Charles's injuries were caused by her framing Katherine to get Bernard to fire her!
Sophie was also brought in as a witness to support the accusations.
But she didn't expect Katherine to be so cautious and actually think of recording everything with her phone!
Scarlett's sorrowful tears hid her guilty conscience. "Bernard, I'm at a loss too! How could this happen? Who could be so heartless as to harm such a young child? Is it possible that the nanny, who was looking after Charles while I was away, took out her frustrations on him?"
Child abuse was a serious matter that must be addressed severely!
Bernard's expression darkened. "Call the police and investigate! Everyone who had contact with Charles during this time, including the nanny, servants, and childcare workers, must be investigated!"
Seeing Bernard taking it so seriously, Scarlett feared her actions would be discovered. But she didn't dare to stop him, as that would make her look suspicious. She could only wait until they got home to decide what to do next.
She wiped her tears and, holding Charles, turned to Katherine, putting on an apologetic face. "Katherine, I'm sorry! I wronged you earlier because I was too worried about Charles!"
Katherine smiled slightly and said, "It's okay, Miss Mitchell. It's not the first time you've falsely accused me."
Scarlett's face turned pale, and she was momentarily speechless.
Sophie glared at Katherine and snapped, "Scarlett has already apologized to you. Why are you being so ungrateful?"
Katherine ignored Sophie, who was unaware she was being used, and said to Scarlett, "Miss Mitchell, since you're so worried about your child, you should take your precious son to the hospital to check his injuries!"
"Thank you for your concern, Katherine. We'll go right away!" Scarlett pretended to be anxious and said to Bernard, "Bernard, Sophie and I will take Charles to the hospital for a check-up. You're busy with work, so you don't need to come with us!"
Bernard indeed had urgent work to attend to and had just sent Billy Parker out on an errand. Not wanting his sister and nephew go alone, he turned to Katherine and said sternly, "Ms. Galatea, accompany Scarlett to the hospital and let me know if anything happens."
"Yes, Mr. Mitchell." Katherine was naturally unwilling, but she couldn't disobey her boss's orders on her first day at work.
This job was hard to come by, and she needed to stay at the Mitchell Group to continue investigating her mother's matters.
At the children's hospital...
Katherine hated hospitals the most; being here affected her mood.
Scarlett didn't let her into the examination room, so she waited in the hallway for them to come out.
Later, Sophie was also sent out by Scarlett to buy a bottle of water for Charles.
