Scarlett's eyes were red, her face a mix of sorrow and anger. Her emotions surged so intensely that her shouldersheaved dramatically with each breath. "Sophie, even if you don't like Katherine, you can't just kill her! She's a living human being, and she's pregnant with twins! How could you do this?"
Sophie covered her face and took two steps back, the emotional pain she felt overshadowing any physical discomfort.
She looked incredulously at her best friend, who was supposed to defend her but instead publicly exposed her, "Scarlett, you..."
Why was she doing this?Wasn't Scarlett here at the hospital to speak on her behalf?Or was this some new tactic Scarlett had come up with?
Even in this moment of betrayal, Sophie still believed her best friend wouldn't betray her and was making excuses for her in her heart...
However, hearing the commotion, Bernard suddenly looked up at Scarlett, his eyes filled with sharp, cold light, "Scarlett, who did you just say killed Katherine?"

Sophie was on the verge of breaking down, whispering, "Scarlett, I did it all for you... I did it to get you back together with Alex. How could you betray me at a time like this?"
Scarlett took a deep breath, tears streaming down her face, "For me? Sophie, I've told you more than once that my relationship with Alex will never go back to what it was! I've always advised you not to hurt Katherine for my sake. Even if you wanted to confront her for me, you shouldn't have resorted to murder! Sophie, you already have a criminal record and were in jail for so long. How could you not reflect on that?"
Seeing Scarlett's detached demeanor, Sophie recalled what Katherine had told her that morning...
Katherine had mentioned that Scarlett was good at pretending to be innocent and had always manipulated those around her who loved and trusted her.
Sophie had never believed Katherine. She and Scarlett grew up together, and she thought she knew her best friend well enough not to dismiss any character flaws...

Scarlett looked shocked and hurt as she denied the allegations, "What are you talking about, Sophie? How can you make up such lies to slander me? When did I hint for you to kill Katherine? On the phone, I was clearly advising you not to hurt her anymore!"
For the first time, Sophie felt extreme disgust towards her best friend. Scarlett was even better at acting than an Oscar-winning actress. If she hadn't been involved, she might have been deceived by her innocent act again!
She didn't say anything more to Scarlett. Sophie turned to Bernard, whom she would never have, "Bernard, Katherine's death was my doing. Don't worry, I'll turn myself in. But don't be deceived by Scarlett anymore. She has a direct connection to this. She made me do it!"
With that, Sophie took her phone out of her pocket and handed it to Bernard, and said, "Bernard, if you don't believe me, check my call records..."
