Chapter 184 Sunny, Confess His Guilty
Late at night, Scarlett quietly took some bread and snacks to Sunny.
The two bodyguards that Billy arranged to station at Sunny's door under the orders of the Bernard hesitated when they saw Scarlett. In the end, they didn't dare to stop her and let her in.
Bernard had always been indulgent towards her. Even if he were here himself, he wouldn't be able to resist her wheedling and would let her in.
If they stopped her and she got upset and complained, Bernard would definitely take it out on them. So, they decided to turn a blind eye.
Scarlett entered her brother's room and saw Sunny lying on the bed, his face buried in the pillow, sobbing.
She asked, "Sunny? Sunny, get up! You'll suffocate like that!"
Hearing his sister's voice, Sunny froze for a moment, then sat up, wiping his tears stubbornly. He turned his head and said in a nasal voice, "Scarlett, why are you here? It's so late, and you're not asleep yet?"
Scarlett replied, "I couldn't sleep. I was worried about you, so I came to check on you!"
Scarlett took a tissue from the table, walked over, and wiped her stubborn brother's red eyes. "Look at you. You're such a mature boy now. Why are you still crying like this?"
Sunny didn't want to cry, but he felt so wrong.
Being scolded by his sister made him a bit embarrassed and angry. "Scarlett, I'm being wronged! I didn't do what Bernard said! I just wanted to get that blogger's phone from him to clear Katherine's name online!"
Scarlett was stunned, her hand paused, and a hint of malice flashed in her eyes.
Sunny wanted to help Katherine too?
What kind of spell did Katherine cast on them? She managed to make Bernard, a man known for his stoicism, went out of his way to investigate, and even Sunny, that arrogant little brat, risked everything to steal the phone from his brother.
She must be a formidable character!
Seeing the strange look on his sister's face, Sunny frowned. "Scarlett? What are you thinking? Do you not believe me either?"
Scarlett snapped out of it, immediately putting on a gentle and understanding expression. "Sunny, what are you talking about? Of course, I believe you! But you know Bernard's temper. He only cares about results, not feelings. You don't have any evidence to prove you didn't do those things, and he won't let you off the hook. So, listen to me. Go to the Melville family tomorrow and admit to Alex that you did that thing online out of a moment of confusion. Let Bernard and Alex calm down first."
Sunny was shocked and immediately pushed away his sister's hand, which was wiping his tears. He resisted. "What are you saying? Do you want me to admit to something I didn't do? No way! Why should I?"
Scarlett sighed deeply, showing a look of disappointment and conflict. "Sunny, I'm not trying to force you to admit guilt. It's just, you know, my biggest wish in life is to marry Alex and be with him forever. However, the feud between the Mitchell family and the Melville family has already caused so much pain. If this online issue pushes them further apart, it will be the final nail in the coffin for my wish. Alex and I will be forever separated. Sunny, I hope you can consider the bigger picture and endure this for a while, okay?"
As Scarlett spoke, her eyes turned red. Her already pitiful, innocent look was even more heart-wrenching now.
For his sister's happiness, Sunny's resolve began to waver. "But Scarlett, I think Alex now..."
Scarlett guessed what her brother was about to say and didn't want to hear it, so she gently interrupted, "I know. Alex is good to Katherine now because he married her. He has to put on a show for the Melville family elders. And Alex is a responsible man. Even if he doesn't have feelings for Katherine, he won't ignore her."
Sunny frowned. "No... I think Alex treats Katherine differently, even more than he treats you..."
Scarlett interrupted again, "That's just an act of affection to avoid getting caught by the Melville family elders. Alex's apparent kindness, tenderness, and protection towards Katherine are because she is his nominal wife. He was putting on a show for the Melville family's reputation, not out of personal feelings!"
She continued, ''Alex told me that his marriage this time was just to appease the elders at home. Once Jackie's health stabilizes, he will end this nominal marriage and come back to me. And a man as cold as Alex couldn't possibly fall for another woman in just over a month! I know Alex best; he won't do that!"
Sunny thought about it and felt that his sister made sense. Alex, indeed, wouldn't be the kind of man to fall in love easily!
He thought for a moment and looked at his sister, who was hoplessly in love. In the end, Sunny couldn't bear it. "Alright, Scarlett, for you, I'll go to the Melville family tomorrow and take the blame, put all the responsibility on myself."
"Sunny!" Scarlett was so touched that she burst into tears and hugged her brother gratefully. "Good boy, I'm so glad I have you! Don't worry. I'll find out how those things got into your computer and who framed you. I'll clear your name!"
Sunny nodded, fully believing in her. "Okay!"
Scarlett, having cried enough, stood up, wiped her tears, and pushed the snacks she brought in front of Sunny. "Sunny, these are your favorite snacks. Eat some, don't go hungry, or I'll be heartbroken!"
Sunny had no appetite, but he didn't want to disappoint his sister, so he opened a pack of toast and took a big bite.
A sly smile played on Scarlett's lips as she watched Sunny, a puppet dancing to her strings.
She successfully persuaded Sunny that this matter had nothing to do with her.
Anyway, Sunny wouldn't lose much by taking the blame; at most, he'd get a scolding from Bernard!
But if their brother found out she did something wrong, she would lose his trust and make Alex like her less. How could she let that happen?
Scarlett thought, 'Sunny, my good brother, you'll have to bear this blame for me!'
The next day morning, Alex came out of the study, and Katherine was still asleep.
The man returned to the room, raised his hand, and knocked on the door. There was no response from inside. He tried the door handle, but it was still locked.
The butler, Anton, saw this and immediately understood. "Mr. Melville, please wait a moment. I'll get the spare key."
