Chapter 129 Alex and the Long Phone Call with His First Love

Alex didn't hesitate. He took Sunny's phone and turned around to answer the call.

Katherine slightly tilted her head, watching his back as he walked out to take the call, raising an eyebrow with a subtle and unclear expression.

Hilton, who had just gone out to contact the hospital, walked in slowly and informed everyone. "Don't worry, the hospital has already dispatched an ambulance. Sophie will receive treatment soon."

Sunny looked at the unconscious Sophie lying on the bed with a face full of worry. "Sophie, did you hear that? Your foot will be treated soon. Everything will be fine!"

However, he received no reaction.

The stable's doctor went over and patted Sophie's face, which eventually made her frown and wake up.

Although Sophie was awake, she still had a weak and hopeless expression, saying lifelessly, "My foot is ruined. Why are you even trying to save me? Just let me die like this!"

Sunny was very distressed to see her like this. "Sophie, don't be like this. Think about Scarlett. She'll be heartbroken if she sees you so frustrated!"

Hearing Scarlett's name, Sophie's eyes showed some emotion, but she sighed self-deprecatingly. "Only Scarlett would care about me this much."

Sunny said affirmatively, "Sophie, we all care about you too! Hilton, isn't that right?"

Hilton nodded lightly with a faint smile. "Yes, Sophie, keep a positive mindset and focus on your treatment. Once you're healed, you can find the best rehabilitation trainer. We believe you can still be an excellent ballet dancer."

Sunny nodded vigorously in agreement. "Yes, Hilton is right!"

But Sophie still shook her head weakly. "Hilton, don't comfort me. The doctor just said my foot will never be as flexible as it was."

Hilton smiled wryly, feeling helpless as he didn't know what else to say to her.

At this moment, Leander knocked on the door and walked in.

He said, "Ms. Jones, regarding the withdrawal of funds, Mr. Melville has reconsidered and decided to postpone it for a while. He will make a decision based on the Jones Group's financial report next quarter. For now, focus on treating your foot, and don't worry about anything else."

Hearing this news, a bit of spirit returned to Sophie's gloomy face. "Really?"

Leander nodded seriously. "Yes, Mr. Melville has instructed me to inform you."

Sophie finally felt comforted, her face showing hope again as she teared up with gratitude. "I knew it. I knew Alex wouldn't be so harsh on me! Leander, please thank Alex for me and tell him that the Jones family won't disappoint him with the next quarter's financial report!"

"Okay, I will," he then answered.

After conveying Mr. Melville's instructions, Leander turned around and scanned the room, finally fixing his gaze on Katherine, who was standing in the most inconspicuous corner.

He walked over to her respectfully and said, "Mrs. Melville, please come with me. Mr. Melville has asked me to take you and Ms. Harris down the mountain and back home."

Katherine looked at Leander and asked calmly, "What about him?"

"Mr. Melville is still on the phone. He has been entrusted to stay here with Ms. Jones until her injury is properly treated. He said you don't need to wait for him," Leander stated.

Katherine thought, 'Alex is still on the phone?'

She understood clearly that it was undoubtedly Scarlett who had just called Alex. The decision to postpone the withdrawal of funds from the Jones family was also obviously made for Scarlett's sake. It was reasonable and not surprising at all.

Katherine thought for a moment and said to Leander, "Yes, I'll go with you, but please wait a moment."

"Wait a moment?" Leander looked puzzled. "What are you waiting for, Mrs. Melville?"

Katherine remained calm and said lightly, "I need to settle something with Ms. Jones first."

Leander was even more puzzled, furrowing his brows with a sense of foreboding. Just as he was about to ask for details, Katherine had already walked towards the injured Sophie lying on the bed.

As Katherine approached, Sunny stood up defensively, blocking her way and preventing her from getting closer to Sophie.

"What do you want to do to Sophie?" he questioned.

Katherine looked peaceful, her tone carrying a hint of apology. "Ms. Jones's fall wasn't entirely my fault, but I can't say it has nothing to do with me either. Her fall and injury partly resulted from my pettiness in refusing to assist her with flying a kite. So, I should take responsibility for this."

Hearing that Katherine was there to admit her mistake, Sunny's vigilant expression relaxed, and he immediately let down his guard, frowning in frustration. "Actually, you don't need to blame yourself. I know this has little to do with you!"

Indeed, it had little to do with her. He had noticed at the time that when Sophie fell, Katherine and Teresa were flying a kite far away. It had nothing to do with them!

Moreover, Sophie had indeed done some bad things to Katherine the day before. It was understandable that Katherine didn't want to help Sophie fly a kite today.

However, when Sophie heard Sunny say that, she cursed him as an idiot in her heart!

It was obvious that Katherine had ulterior motives and was not to be trusted!

Thinking of this, Sophie deliberately exaggerated the pain on her face and said sarcastically, "Katherine, forget it. I don't need your apoloy. It's your freedom not to help me fly a kite, and I won't blame you. I just blame my bad luck."

Katherine bypassed Sunny, walked to the bedside, and looked at Sophie's pained expression. "But I insist."

Sophie frowned, looking at Katherine defensively with a pitiful expression of being weak and helpless. "I've already told you that I don't need your apology. Why are you still being so relentless? Katherine, what do you want from me to let me go?"

Katherine looked honest and sincere, smiling kindly at her. "Ms. Jones, don't be nervous. I just want to compensate you. Will you accept my compensation?"

Sophie's eyes were full of disdain, but her face still showed a look of sorrow and despair, choking with sobs, "Compensation? At this point, what can you compensate me with? Can you make my foot as good as new? If not, any external compensation is meaningless to me! Just forget it!"

"I can." Katherine's single word, spoken so easily, drew everyone's attention to her.

It was unbelievable, intriguing, doubtful, and even laughable.

Katherine said she could.

The stable's doctor also looked at Katherine with ambiguity.

Sophie felt like she had heard a joke that wasn't funny at all, and she was annoyed at being treated like a fool. She cried out in grievance, "The doctor said my ligament is torn, and even after surgery, it won't be as good as new! Katherine, you say you can make my foot as good as new. How can you do that? It feels like you're just rubbing salt in my wound!"
