Chapter 364 You Can't Escape
Katherine blinked. "Why would I regret it?"
Alex smirked. "You don't? If I hadn't shown up, would you have agreed to meet that guy?"
Katherine sipped her water, blushing. "Yeah, probably!"
Alex's eyes darkened. "At least you're honest."
Katherine looked at him sincerely. "I wanted to meet Aron, but not for a date. I just wanted to see my childhood idol and maybe get his autograph."
Alex's face stayed stern as he downed half a bottle of water.
Katherine studied his cold profile. Was he jealous?
She frowned and asked, "Alex, didn't you have any idols as a kid? Just pure admiration?"
Alex replied coldly, "I didn't have a childhood."
He remembered the time at Zephyr Meadows when Katherine fell off a cliff and he saved her. They chatted at the bottom. She had talked about her teenage crush on a singer named Aron, saying, "When I was eighteen, I loved his singing and even fantasized about marrying him."
Even though they were just partners then, and he hadn't expressed his feelings, the thought of Katherine wanting to marry another man still bothered him, even if it was a joke.
Katherine was focused on Alex's remark—"I didn't have a childhood."
She realized she knew nothing about his past or childhood.
Imagine a man born into wealth, burdened with the family's future from a young age, and subjected to rigorous elite education. His childhood likely had no freedom or choices.
Though he had everything, he wasn't treated like an ordinary child. He faced high standards and demands alone, growing up under immense pressure to become the business tycoon he was today.
Katherine always thought her childhood was bleak and lonely, but thinking about Alex's loveless wealthy family, it didn't seem much better. Her heart ached a bit.
She softened and explained, "Alex, I just like Aron's work and voice, not him as a person. If it makes you unhappy, I won't like him anymore."
Alex's stern face softened instantly, looking a bit flattered. He glanced at Katherine in disbelief. "Are you trying to appease me?"
Katherine knew he was jealous. Though a bit petty, it was also cute, contrasting with his mature and sophisticated demeanor.
She squinted her eyes and smiled. "Alex, got any hobbies?"
He raised an eyebrow. "Hobbies?"
Katherine's eyes sparkled. "Yeah! Someone as amazing as you must have some hidden talents. Show me, and maybe I'll be so impressed I'll fall head over heels for you!"
She was teasing him!
Alex stared at her mischievous face, then leaned in. "Isn't flirting with you my favorite hobby?"
He lightly touched her belly, tickling her through her clothes.
Katherine's face turned red, and she pushed him away. "What are you doing? We're in the car! Aren't you ashamed?"
Seeing her shy expression, he finally smiled, pecked her lips, and stopped teasing. His eyes deepened. "Katherine, you won't leave me for some younger guy in the future, will you?"
Katherine paused, then smiled. "Then you better keep me happy. Otherwise, when you get old and can't walk, I'll pull out your oxygen tube and find someone else!"
Alex froze for a moment.
Though her words were harsh, the meaning was clear—she wanted to grow old with him. He couldn't stay mad!
He pretended to be displeased and pinched her cheek. "You dare?"
Katherine pouted and glared. "I dare! Want to try now? I'll get out and ask Mr. Vincent Mitchell to introduce me to some guys!"
She pushed Alex away and pretended to get out of the car.
"Get back here!"
Alex immediately grabbed the mischievous Katherine.
She didn't struggle, turned back, and kissed Alex on the lips!
It was her first time being proactive; her technique was unskilled but brave.
This sudden kiss made his pupils contract; he paused, then gently cupped her head and responded tenderly.
He didn't take control; he just guided her carefully.
When they finally stopped, both blushing and panting, Katherine looked at him. "Alex, don't be so tense. I won't go on a blind date or run away with someone else!"
He smiled, his fingers gently caressing her cheek. "Even if you wanted to run, you couldn't. You're mine! For this lifetime, you'll never escape my grasp!"
In his eyes, Katherine saw a possessiveness, but instead of resisting, she felt secure and warm.
The car headed back to Melville Manor.
Then, the mysterious van appeared again, slowly following their car.
After sending Grandpa to rest, Bernard went upstairs to one of the two special rooms.
In this room, there was a beautiful princess bed, a delicate, and various cartoon dolls of different sizes.
This was the room where his long-lost sister Laura used to live.
