Chapter 623 The Same

Katherine was about to pop and her hormones were all over the place. Seeing Alex just made her more pissed. And then there was Sophia, spouting nonsense and blocking her way, making her even more frustrated.

She couldn't take it anymore and went to shove Sophia aside. But the second her hand touched Sophia's clothes, Sophia went flying like she'd been hit by a truck, crashing into the restaurant counter and bleeding from her forehead, screaming like a banshee.

Katherine frowned, watching Sophia's dramatic act. 'Just a minute ago, I thought Sophia's tricks were slicker than Scarlett's. Now, not so much! I barely touched her, and she fell on her own. No guilt here. With no one in my way, I can just leave.'

But she only took two steps when a cold, stern voice stopped her. "Who said you could leave?"

Recognizing Alex's voice, Katherine turned around. "Do I need permission to leave?"

Alex's face was like ice. He stormed over to Sophia, helped her up, and then glared at Katherine. "You hurt her and think you can just walk away?"

Sophia, trying to play the martyr, said, "It's okay, Alex. I'm fine. You and Ms. Galatea just got back together. Don't let me mess things up."

Alex said, "You're really thoughtful."

Sophia shook her head and forced a weak smile. "Alex, I'm really fine."

Katherine's eyes were cold. "Mr. Melville, she was in my way. Why can't I push her aside?"

Alex stepped closer, his face dark. "Pushing her aside is one thing, but did you have to knock her down and make her head bleed?"

'Alex is still Alex, but his loyalty has shifted. There was a time when, if I was misunderstood, he would stand by me no matter what. But now, he sides with his wife. Makes sense. With random women, I still matter to Alex, so he sides with me. But with his wife, he knows who's more important. Of course, his wife is more important.' Katherine thought, understanding but still feeling a chill in her heart.

She sneered, "So, Mr. Melville, what do you want? Hold me accountable?"

Alex's gaze fell upon her, then he said lightly, "Apologize, and we'll let it go."

'Apologize? For something I didn't do?' Katherine thought before saying sarcastically, "Then hold me accountable. I won't apologize. I didn't use any force. Only she knows why she fell so hard."

Sophia took a deep breath, looking all pitiful, and said, "Yes. Ms. Galatea didn't use any force. I just lost my balance and fell. It's okay, Alex. Don't hold her accountable. I'm fine."

Alex wasn't ready to back down. He stepped even closer to Katherine, demanding, "I'll ask you one more time, are you gonna apologize or not?"

Katherine felt like her heart was being torn apart. What hurt wasn't the accusation, but Alex's lack of trust. She never thought that after all this time, a bit of doubt from Alex could still sting so much.

"No apology," Katherine said firmly, thinking, 'I didn't do it, and I won't apologize. Saying sorry means admitting guilt!'

The waitstaff saw the drama unfolding at the counter. They didn't dare step in and went to fetch the manager.

When the manager showed up, a crowd had already gathered to watch the spectacle.

Hearing the commotion and the gossip that Alex was in a spat with two women, Sandra couldn't stay put and had Fiona help her over to see what was going on.

Pushing through the crowd, Sandra saw Alex grabbing Katherine by the collar, demanding she apologize to the bleeding Sophia.

Katherine, with welled up eyes and a stubborn look, refused to apologize. Sophia was trying to play peacemaker, saying she was fine.

Seeing this, Sandra got pissed and shoved Alex away. "Alex, what the hell are you doing? Don't you know Katherine's pregnant? Are you nuts treating her like this?"

Alex, pushed away by Sandra, didn't get mad. "Sophia's head injury was caused by her, and Katherine won't apologize."

Sandra, shielding Katherine, looked at Sophia's head and saw a few dried blood streaks. "Sophia, what happened? Did Katherine really cause your head injury?"

Sophia said reluctantly, "Yes, but I believe Ms. Galatea didn't do it on purpose. Mrs. Melville, she wanted to leave quietly, but I knew you had a lot to say to her, so I held her back. Maybe she got annoyed with me and lightly pushed me. It was really light.

Blame me for not standing firm and hitting my head, causing it to bleed. Alex saw me bleeding and got a bit anxious, wanting Ms. Galatea to apologize to me. But I'm really fine."

After hearing Sophia's account, Sandra frowned, looked at the pissed-off Alex, then turned to the red-eyed Katherine. "Katherine, is it as Sophia said?"

Katherine, with wide eyes, looked at Sandra, feeling bad and not wanting to add anything. "More or less."

Sandra felt a bit troubled. "Since you made the first move, it's not wrong for Alex to ask you to apologize to Sophia. I know you're a sensible girl. Be good and apologize to her."

Katherine looked at Sandra, who seemed to be siding with her, and then sneered inwardly, 'The Melville family is all the same! I thought Grandma would be better than Alex. Seems I was wrong. She trusts her legit daughter-in-law more. How can she believe me? You want me to apologize? Fine!'
