Chapter 90 Deeply Entranced by Her
Katherine couldn't break free from the man's large hand. In a moment of desperation, she raised her other hand and slapped him.
Smack!
Leander blocked the stairwell door with his body while Sherry tried to push the door open, clawing at any gap she could find.
The more Leander tried to stop her, the more suspicious Sherry became. She was determined to see what Mr. Melville was doing inside.
Was he alone, or was there someone else with him?
Leander, unable to bear it any longer, shouted angrily, "Ms. Galatea, if you keep forcing your way in, don't blame me for getting physical."
Sherry didn't take Leander seriously. To her, Mr. Melville's assistant was just as insignificant as her assistant.
She never paid attention to her assistant, so why would Mr. Melville care about Leander?
A mere assistant dared to show off in front of her. Once she won over Mr. Melville, the first thing she'd do was have him fire Leander.
"Try laying a hand on me and see what happens! If you touch me, I'll scream for sexual harassment," she retorted.
"You..." Leander was speechless with anger at Sherry's shamelessness.
Seeing that her words affected Leander, Sherry got an idea. She deliberately pressed herself against him, pushing her chest forward to force him back.
Leander, unable to avoid her, felt extremely uncomfortable.
Leander really couldn't handle Sherry's disgusting tactics, and he couldn't actually hit a woman.
Taking advantage of Leander's hesitation, Sherry seized the opportunity to push the door open and burst in.
Once inside, she was stunned by what she saw.
Alex was tall and he leaned lazily against the stairwell wall, exuding a regal yet weary demeanor. He held a freshly lit cigarette between his slender fingers, took a drag, and exhaled a thin stream of smoke. Alex's mature and handsome profile deeply entranced Sherry as he smoked. After a moment, she said, "Mr. Melville, why are you here alone? Aren't you going back to eat?"
Alex raised an eyebrow and slowly glanced at her. "I'm having a strong urge to smoke."
Sherry giggled coquettishly. "I see... Well, once you finish your cigarette, why don't you come back and eat with me? Otherwise, the food will get cold."
Alex flicked the ash off his cigarette and said indifferently, "You go ahead."
Even the small act of flicking ash was done so handsomely that it made Sherry's heart flutter. She tried hard to maintain her composure and, putting on a gentle and considerate facade, and said, "It's okay. I'll wait for you. I can't eat alone."
"You can eat first," Alex said coldly.
Sherry thought Alex was worried about her being hungry, so she shyly shook her head. "No, I'm not hungry yet. I'll wait for Mr. Melville. I don't mind."
A trace of annoyance flashed in Alex's eyes. He frowned, then stubbed out his half-smoked cigarette, stood up straight, and strode towards the door. "Let's go then."
Sherry was momentarily stunned, her heart pounding wildly.
It was unbelievable that Mr. Melville stopped smoking so that she wouldn't go hungry.
She was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't notice the fresh slap mark on the left side of the man's face, which was out of her line of sight.
After Sherry followed Alex out of the stairwell, Leander closed the door behind them.
At that moment, Katherine was sitting on the stairs one floor below, her palm still stinging.
In a moment of desperation, she had slapped Alex to break free.
Hearing the sound of them leaving, she let out a small sigh of relief.
Suddenly, her phone rang again. It was Frank calling.
Katherine frowned and answered the call.
Frank's voice came through. "Ms. Galatea, is that you? A man just told me you got married. I don't believe it. Please tell me it's not true."
Katherine cut him off impatiently. "Enough with the act; it's me."
Frank paused for a moment, and then reverted to his usual tone, chuckling, "Katherine, how's it going?"
"What do you mean, how's it going?" she asked.
"I mean, did you and Mr. Melville get any closer? Was he jealous just now?" he added.
Katherine understood Frank's game. She said sternly, "Stop doing these pointless things. I've told you, Alex and I only have a three-month working relationship, nothing more."
Although she emphasized this, her mind was in turmoil.
She couldn't forget what Alex had just done to her.
In fact, this wasn't their first kiss.
The first time was at the beginning when she gave Alex a quick peck to spite a greasy blind date.
The second time was in the SNOW private room at Breaking Dawn Bar. To help Teresa get away, she lost a game with some thugs and had to kiss a male acquaintance for a minute. Alex wouldn't let her kiss anyone else, so he did it himself.
But this time, there was no accidental reason and no external factors. Alex just inexplicably suddenly kissed her.
Alex had clearly said before that he would give her anything but his feelings.
If he kissed her without any feelings, what did he take her for? He was a jerk.
Thinking of this, Katherine wiped her mouth in disgust, feeling annoyed.
On the other end of the line, Frank clicked his tongue, "Katherine, I actually think Alex is pretty good. He may be a bit older, but he's handsome. Plus, he's smart, capable, and doesn't have the messy scandals that many rich guys do. Why not turn this fake relationship into a real one?"
Katherine couldn't listen anymore and stated, "Enough! Stop talking nonsense. He has a perfectly good first love in his heart. I'm not interested in getting involved."
Frank was taken aback and immediately displeased. "Damn, what a jerk!"
Katherine's eyes darkened, and then she said, "Whether he's a jerk or not has nothing to do with us. I have two months and seven days left. It'll be over soon, and then Alex will be a stranger to me. By the way, your call came at the right time. I have something I need you to handle."
Getting down to business, Frank became serious and then asked, "Alright, Katherine, what is it?"
Katherine explained her arrangements in detail.
Frank accepted the task and then replied, "Yes, Katherine. I'll get on it right away."
Just as she hung up, before she could catch her breath, Sherry's call came in...
As soon as she answered, Sherry's sharp and bossy voice came through. "Katherine, are you trying to get yourself killed? Why has your phone been busy during work hours?"
Katherine tiredly rubbed her temples and forced a smile. "A friend called just now, and we talked for a bit. What's up? Do you need something?"
Sherry shouted angrily, "Who told you to take personal calls during work hours? Katherine, get over here right now!"
