Chapter 1036 Thoughts That Shouldn't Be
'Does Christina really want to push him towards Virginia? Has she ever truly cared for him?'
Bernard, in a bad mood, walked over to Christina with a stern face, "It's true that I've known Virginia for many years, and I've explained everything to you. You've doubted me multiple times, and I have nothing more to say. Christina, don't forget your role. Do what you're supposed to do and don't reveal anything in front of Grandpa and Grandma. Play your part well!"
Christina's hand froze in mid-air as she was brushing her hair, and she gave a bitter smile, "Don't worry, Mr. Mitchell. When have I ever disappointed you in playing the role of your wife? But you, don't just focus on watching Ms. Pearl and end up exposing yourself in front of Grandma."
"You are as sharp-tongued as ever. I guess that's the only thing you're good at!" Bernard suddenly leaned in and pinched Christina's chin, feeling the softness of her skin and catching the scent of her freshly showered body.
Christina's expression in the makeup mirror showed a particularly stubborn expression, and she retorted angrily, "You're no different."
Before opening the door, the two were still at odds, but as soon as they went downstairs, they put on sweet and loving expressions.
Especially Bernard, who directly held Christina's hand.
Christina was momentarily stunned, and Bernard coughed, saying with a stern face, "Why are you looking at me? This is just an act! As an actress, shouldn't you perform better than me?"
Unexpectedly, Christina didn't retort. Only she knew what she had misunderstood just now.
Hellen, seeing Bernard and Christina holding hands as they came downstairs, was increasingly satisfied with Christina and was determined to dispel any inappropriate thoughts Virginia might have.
Virginia naturally saw it too. She had long anticipated that Hellen had no good intentions in inviting her over. Hellen indeed wanted her to see this and make her back off voluntarily!
Virginia had to admit she was indeed provoked. Seeing Bernard and Christina holding hands so tightly made her furious, as if a knife was twisting in her chest.
But with Hellen watching, she couldn't show any inappropriate behavior.
Virginia suppressed her resentment and put on her best fake smile, approaching and linking arms with Christina, "Christina, I've been waiting for you downstairs for so long. Why did you come down so late?"
Christina instinctively pulled away, feeling goosebumps. Why did Virginia's voice sound so sickly sweet? But she still replied, "Oh, I was talking with Bernard and lost track of time."
Virginia sneered inwardly but kept her smile, "I see! By the way, Christina, Mrs. Mitchell wouldn't let me help in the kitchen, so I've just been sitting here waiting to eat. How embarrassing! Christina, why don't you help me persuade Mrs. Mitchell? She's been so kind to me!"
Virginia deliberately said this in front of Christina to make her think Hellen really cared for her!
But to her surprise, Hellen, who had been stern with Virginia, spoke to Christina in a very kind tone, "Christina, come over here!"
Hellen looked angrily at Bernard, who was still holding Christina's hand, "Bernard, why don't you ask someone to serve tea to our guest? It's not often Ms. Pearl visits; we shouldn't make her feel unwelcome."
Virginia wasn't foolish; she could hear the difference in Hellen's tone. Awkwardly, she let go of Christina's hand and allowed her to go to Hellen.
Bernard watched Christina obediently walk towards Hellen, then signaled a servant to serve tea to Virginia in the living room.
Hellen happily said, "Christina, in our family, only the hosts can enter the kitchen. How can we let a guest cook? Don't you agree?"
As she spoke, she affectionately patted Christina's hand, her eyes full of fondness and love, "Christina, come help me in the kitchen!"
Christina didn't quite understand the underlying meaning of Hellen's words but nodded obediently, willing to help in the kitchen.
Rather than watching Bernard and Virginia being intimate, she'd rather be in the kitchen with Hellen, out of sight and out of mind.
Hellen's words were clearly meant for Virginia. She knew her grandson well.
If Bernard really had feelings for Virginia, why would he wait until now?
They had known each other for a long time, and Bernard had always been indifferent to her. He didn't like Virginia at all!
Unfortunately, Virginia couldn't see her own position and always thought she could be with Bernard!
Well, today she would make it clear to her. If she thought she could enter the Mitchell family, she was dreaming!
Hellen gave Virginia a seemingly kind but warning look, then protectively led Christina away.
Virginia glanced at the backs of Hellen and Christina, then invited Bernard to sit with her on the sofa.
Bernard responded but didn't sit next to her. Instead, he chose a single sofa nearby.
Virginia was a bit unhappy, but it didn't matter. With only the two of them in the living room, what did distance matter?
Now, without Christina or Hellen, it was just her and Bernard. As long as she brought up their past experiences, she could surely rekindle Bernard's feelings for her.
Christina meant nothing! They were the ones meant to be together!
Thinking this, Virginia sweetly began, "Bernard, do you remember the first time we met when we were kids..."
"Mr. Mitchell, this document is urgent and requires your immediate attention."
Billy suddenly appeared, striding over to Bernard and handing him a tablet, interrupting Virginia's attempt to reminisce.
"Excuse me," Bernard said to Virginia indifferently.
Virginia immediately smiled and nodded, "I know the company keeps you busy. Go ahead..."
"Ms. Pearl, please be quiet!" Billy interrupted Virginia again.
Virginia's face turned extremely sour. Who did Billy think he was, a mere servant, daring to interrupt her?
When she became Mrs. Mitchell, the first person she'd deal with would be him!
But she didn't consider that without Bernard's tacit approval, would Billy dare to disrespect her?
Billy had always been respectful to Christina.
In the kitchen.
"Christina, do you think this fish should be made into soup or pan-fried?"
Hellen didn't really need Christina to help cook. The Mitchell family could certainly afford servants and chefs.
