Chapter 430 Prenuptial Agreement

"Edwin, I..."

Alice's eyes were red, tears streaming down her face.

Edwin ignored her, walked to the bedside, pulled up a chair, and sat down, quietly watching his unconscious son.

After Scarlett left, Katherine turned to look at Alice, who was still crying.

Alice and Scarlett were definitely mother and daughter; they could cry on cue.

But Alice picked the wrong audience; Edwin wasn't interested.

Even though Alice was middle-aged, the Mitchell family's money kept her looking young. Still, she couldn't catch Edwin's eye.

Edwin seemed genuinely indifferent to Alice. He slept in a separate bed and didn't even want to look at her.

Katherine didn't think any better of her father for his coldness towards a side chick. She squinted and sneered in her heart.

'Ha, shameless old douchebag!' she thought.

When Edwin was with Claire, he cheated on Alice.

After elevating Alice, the mistress, he grew tired of her and became cold. He probably already had a new lover. He was a thorough scumbag!

Sensing someone glaring at him, Edwin looked over sharply.

Katherine had already turned away in disgust. "Alex, it's stuffy in here. Come outside with me for some fresh air!"

Alex agreed, put his arm around her shoulder, and they walked out together.

He didn't want to get involved in the Mitchell family's affairs; he was only there for Katherine.

Since she wanted to go out, he naturally went with her.

Seeing Katherine dressed lightly, Bernard took off his coat and stepped forward to drape it over her. "Katherine, wear more. The hallway might be cold."

Before Katherine could respond, Alex blocked Bernard's coat. "No need, I have one."

Then he took off his coat and draped it over Katherine.

Bernard frowned, retracted his coat, and draped it over his arm. He didn't say anything more but, worried about his sister, prepared to follow them out.

Katherine didn't look back. She just heard Bernard's footsteps and coldly forbade him. "Bernard, don't follow us. Stay here and look after Sunny!"

Feeling guilty, Bernard didn't dare to upset Katherine. He stopped and instructed, "Alex, take good care of her."

Alex gave him a cold look. "You don't need to say that."

Bernard was at a loss for words.

Seeing them out, Bernard sighed helplessly. Fine, if Katherine didn't want to talk to him, so be it as long as she was okay.

Outside the ward, the two walked to the end of the hallway, looking out at the small garden for hospital patients.

Katherine, finding it boring, turned around and lazily wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her face in his chest and rubbing against him like a spoiled child.

Katherine rarely took the initiative to be affectionate, so Alex was naturally happy to accept it. But he also sensed something was wrong with her.

"Feeling down?"

Katherine pressed her face to his chest, listening to his heartbeat. "Alex, are all men the same?"

"...What?"

Alex frowned. They had nearly a ten-year age gap, so there was a bit of a generation gap. Though he didn't fully understand the thoughts of young people, he could tell it wasn't a good thing!

Katherine's eyes were empty, and she pulled a sarcastic smile. "Look at Edwin. Born into a prestigious family, well-dressed and eloquent. But he cheated on his first wife with a side chick. After ditching his first wife, he elevated the home wrecker, and now he treats her with indifference! Do men always think women are just accessories, easily replaceable?"

Alex felt Katherine was hinting at him and said seriously, "Don't worry, I only think you're the best."

Hearing his earnest confession, Katherine felt a bit awkward and pouted. "That's because we haven't been together long enough! After a while, you might get tired of me and start to hate me!"

He raised his hand and ruffled her hair. "Not familiar enough? We've already bared it all. . How much more familiar do you want to get?"

The phrase "bared it all" was highly suggestive, causing Katherine to blush deeply.. She rolled her eyes and glared at him in embarrassment. "I'm talking about feelings and time spent together, not that!"

Alex raised an eyebrow. "That?"

Katherine, angry, let go of him and punched him hard. "Ugh! I'm not talking to you anymore!"

Then she turned to leave.

Alex extended his arm and pulled her back into his embrace, holding her tightly. "Alright, stop overthinking! I know you're feeling emotional because of your mother's past and projecting it onto us. Katherine, don't think so poorly of me. I'm not at an age to be fickle; I know what I want. In this life, I only want you."

Katherine was held tightly, feeling warm and secure. She loved his clean, mature scent.

"Alex, let's make a deal! If one day you get tired of being with me, you can fall for someone else, but you can't betray me before we break up. I hate deceit and betrayal! If you're tired, just tell me directly. I won't cling to you; we can part amicably, and you can find your new love!"

Alex didn't like hearing her talk about breaking up. "Katherine, you're overthinking again! I won't break up with you, and you shouldn't even think about it!"

Katherine had to admit she really liked him at the moment, and she believed his words were sincere and passionate. But she wasn't naive enough to believe in eternal love.

So she insisted. "Alex, I think it's better to say the harsh words up front. No matter what causes us to break up in the future, the custody of the children will be mine. Let's sign a prenuptial agreement."

Alex frowned. "Do you really have to do this?"

Katherine nodded. "It would make me feel more secure!"

Alex squinted his eyes. "What if I refuse to sign such a thing?"

Katherine's gaze was sharp. "That would mean you actually plan to leave me someday and are afraid the agreement will come true!"
