Chapter 147 Have no Family
"Alex, you're back!" As soon as Teresa saw Alex come in, she immediately got up from the bedside to make room for him.
Then, she noticed Scarlett following Alex in, her expression froze for a moment, and she instinctively turned to see Katherine's reaction.
Katherine's expression was very calm, showing no change in emotion.
"You're awake?" asked Alex.
Alex walked slowly to the bedside, standing with a noble and relaxed posture. His hands were elegantly tucked into his pockets, and his composed gaze flickered, looking down at her.
"Yeah." Katherine nodded, meeting Alex's captivating eyes for a moment before looking away, turning her gaze to Scarlett, who was beside him.
The man noticed her question and glanced at Scarlett beside him, then turned back and explained calmly, "She wanted to come see you."
Teresa stood aside, letting out a barely audible snort from her nose.
Like Katherine, Scarlett was also wearing a loose hospital gown with a bandage wrapped around her forehead. Her injured appearance made her look even more delicate and fragile, a pitiful beauty that anyone would want to protect.
But she wasn't arrogant. Her face carried a cheerful and amiable smile. She stepped forward and asked with concern, "Katherine, I heard from Alex that you were hospitalized due to an allergy. I was a bit worried about you, so I came along. How are you feeling now?"
Katherine replied politely, "Thank you for your concern. I'm much better now. How about you, Scarlett? You look injured, too. Are you okay?"
Scarlett touched the bandage on her forehead and sighed helplessly. "I'm fine. The car accident wasn't serious; it was just a small cut on my head. But my family is making a big deal out of it, insisting that I stay in the hospital for a few days for observation!"
As she said this, her expression genuinely showed a bit of frustration, as if she really felt helpless about her family's overprotectiveness.
However, this helplessness inadvertently revealed that she was a girl surrounded by her family's love and care.
Because she had been protected so well since she was a child, lacking nothing in wealth, companionship, or love, she could effortlessly get everything she wanted, remaining as simple as a child.
Such a lucky girl. She had the luck of a lottery winner.
Katherine smiled and said nothing more.
Scarlett seemed to sense something was off, looking around the room. Besides her and Alex, who had just come in, Teresa was there.
Scarlett inquired, "Katherine, where are your family members? Why aren't they here to take care of you?"
Hearing this, Katherine's face darkened slightly.
Family?
She had no family.
She recently found out that Joshua was not her biological father, so even Sherry, whom she always thought was her half-sister, was actually not related to her at all.
And the relatives of the Galatea family in the countryside had nothing to do with her either. She could say that she had no relatives at all.
Katherine didn't speak, but Teresa stepped forward with a suggestion. "Scarlett, what are you talking about? Aren't Alex and I Katherine's family? We're here with her in the hospital, aren't we?"
Scarlett looked at Teresa and explained innocently, "Teresa, you misunderstood me. Of course, I know you two are Katherine's family. I meant, why aren't any of Katherine's parents here?"
Teresa knew little about Katherine's family situation; she just felt that Scarlett was being a bit nosy. "With Alex and me here, it's enough. There's no need to trouble Katherine's parents!"
Scarlett disagreed. "You can't keep it from her parents because you're afraid they'll worry. Katherine's allergy is quite serious. It must be very uncomfortable. If she had close family members by her side, she would feel much better."
Teresa actually thought Scarlett made some sense. She turned to Katherine and asked obediently, "Katherine, do you want your parents to come and stay with you? Should we have Alex send someone to bring them over?"
Katherine shook her head and said, "It's just a minor injury. There's no need to make a big deal about it. I'll be fine in a couple of days."
Teresa, being very obedient, nodded and didn't interfere further.
Seeing that she couldn't persuade Katherine, Scarlett looked worriedly at Alex and sincerely said, "Alex, Katherine is very strong, but I think it's still better to call her family and let them know!"
Listening to Scarlett, Alex gazed intently at Katherine, waiting for her response.
He knew Katherine grew up in the countryside and had a distant relationship with the Galatea family, but if she really wanted to see her parents now, he could make it happen.
Katherine said expressionlessly, "Thank you for your concern, but I don't have any family."
Scarlett looked shocked and explained, "What? Oh... I'm sorry, Katherine, I didn't know."
Katherine said indifferently, with a slight, unconcerned smile, "It's nothing."
In fact, she'd rather have no relatives than have relatives like the Galatea family.
Seeing that Katherine wasn't angry, Scarlett felt very touched. She gently took one of Katherine's bandaged hands and said emotionally, "Katherine, you have such a good personality! Our fate is quite amazing, too, as we both ended up in the hospital on the first day we met! From now on, you can consider me as your little sister. If you have any difficulties or needs, you can come to me."
She carefully held Katherine's allergic hand and suddenly found it a bit amusing. "Katherine, your hands are swollen and look painful, but they also look kind of cute, like Doraemon's little hands!"
Katherine quietly watched Scarlett's affectionate actions and then looked at her hand.
A thought flashed through her mind, and it seemed like she had an answer!
Before her allergic reaction occurred, she confirmed that she hadn't touched any obvious allergens.
And besides Alex, only Scarlett had touched her hand!
Twice.
At the entrance of the Melville Manor, Scarlett had approached her and held her hand as a gesture of goodwill.
The first time, she felt awkward and immediately pulled her hand back.
The second time, because Scarlett was so enthusiastic, she didn't resist.
Could it be that this seemingly innocent and harmless girl had done something to her hand?
"Katherine, we can keep each other company in the hospital for the next couple of days so that it won't feel lonely!" Scarlett said with a bright smile.
Katherine looked at her innocent face, deep in thought, and didn't respond.
Teresa, in a bad mood, retorted, "Being in the hospital isn't for fun. The doctor said Katherine needs to rest quietly for the next couple of days, so she probably can't keep you company, Scarlett."
Scarlett was taken aback and felt a bit embarrassed. "You're right. How silly of me to think of being in the hospital as a happy thing!"
Teresa, without a filter, said, "Because you're weak and sickly, you're used to being in the hospital!"
Scarlett's doe-like eyes flickered, and she lowered her head in shame, like a child who had said or done something wrong.
Alex's eyes darkened, and he gave Teresa a stern look. "Don't be rude!"
Teresa pouted and muttered softly, "I wasn't wrong!"
Scarlett checked the time on her watch, then looked up and said softly, "Alex, I've seen Katherine, so I should go back now, or my parents and brother will worry."
Alex nodded and responded indifferently.
Scarlett said goodbye to Katherine and turned to walk towards the door.
When she reached the door, she suddenly stopped and turned back helplessly. "Alex, I forgot how to get to my room. Can you walk me there?"
Alex didn't say anything, turned around, and prepared to escort her.
However, before he could take a step, his large hand was clumsily grabbed by a small, swollen hand.
Alex paused and looked back at Katherine, whose swollen hand was holding his, his dark eyes slightly brightening.
