Chapter 547 Cultivating Feelings

Katherine eyeballed him for a sec, then flashed a polite grin. "Yeah, what a coincidence, almost too much of one!"

Jonathan propped his chin on his hand, his eyes giving off that flirty vibe. "Don't sweat it. I just wanted to chill here."

"Oh." Katherine couldn't care less about his plans. She gave a quick nod and grabbed the water the waiter had brought over.

But before she could take a sip, a big hand snatched it away from across the table.

She blinked, annoyed, and glared at the nosy Jonathan. "Mr. Mostow, what's your deal?"

Jonathan took a swig from her glass. "You're pregnant. Pregnant ladies shouldn't drink ice water."

Katherine scowled. "A little won't kill me."

Jonathan shook his head. "Nope! Steer clear of ice water and coffee."

Katherine really couldn't stand Jonathan always butting in!

But for some weird reason, his nagging made her feel kinda touched.

These words should've come from Alex, but Alex wasn't around.

Just then, the waiter brought over two steaks and some other dishes, setting them on the table.

Katherine grabbed her fork, ready to dig in.

Jonathan asked, all polite-like, "Mind if I join you?"

Katherine rolled her eyes. "If I say yes, will you leave?"

Jonathan shook his head with a grin. "Nope."

Katherine scoffed. "Then why bother asking?"

Jonathan just smiled and picked up his fork.

After all the food was served, Leander came out from the kitchen and looked surprised to see Jonathan sitting across from Katherine. "Mr. Mostow, what brings you here?"

Jonathan looked at Leander and smiled. "I'm on vacation!"

Leander looked skeptical. "Vacation here?"

Jonathan nodded. "Other places aren't as fun. I came here to check it out! Work's been crazy, and I needed a break. So I came to Summer Villa to unwind. Didn't expect to bump into you! What a small world!"

Leander still seemed doubtful but nodded. "I see. That really is a coincidence."

Jonathan looked super relaxed, casually poking at his food. "I heard Alex is out of the country?"

Leander replied, "Yeah, Mr. Melville's handling some stuff abroad."

Jonathan smiled. "Got it. No wonder Katherine's here solo!"

Jonathan's words seemed like he was trying to stir up trouble between Katherine and Alex.

Katherine didn't let Jonathan's words get to her, focusing on her meal until she was full and put down her fork.

Jonathan barely touched his food, lazily resting his chin on his hand, giving her that smoldering look. When she finished, he said, "The food here kinda sucks."

Katherine's face was blank. "It's a tourist trap. What'd you expect, Michelin stars?"

"I'm just keeping it real. The food here kinda sucks! How about I take you to a better spot tomorrow?" Jonathan suggested.

Katherine looked bored. "Thanks, but we won't mess with your chill time, Mr. Mostow. Leander, go settle the bill."

Leander nodded and went to pay, but the waiter handed him some change. "Mr. Mostow already covered it. Here's your change."

Leander frowned, glancing between Jonathan and Katherine, silently asking what to do.

Katherine heard the waiter, shot Jonathan a look, and stood up. "Thanks for the treat. When Alex gets back, we'll make sure to repay you."

With that, she grabbed Leander and headed for the exit.

Since Jonathan had already paid, arguing over the bill was pointless. He wouldn't take the money anyway!

Better to let Alex handle it when he returned.

As they stepped out, Katherine took a deep breath of the fresh air and looked at the distant landscape, memories of her childhood flooding back.

She used to come here with Celine Lewis when she was a kid, walking the same path in front of the restaurant.

Back then, the road was rough, but now it was a smooth asphalt road, and the village had come a long way.

So many years had flown by.

The village where she grew up was on the other side of the mountain. It used to be a tough hike, but now it was just a fifteen-minute drive.

Being here made Katherine miss Celine, who had been a huge help to her. Seeing that it was still early, she said, "Leander, take me somewhere!"

Katherine hopped into the car.

Before Leander could start the engine, the back door opened, and someone climbed in.

He saw through the rearview mirror that it was Jonathan.

Leander felt it was awkward for Jonathan to just hop in, but since he was Alex's long-time buddy, he couldn't just kick him out. He hoped Katherine would say something.

Katherine looked at Jonathan. "Need something?"

Jonathan, all smiles and no shame, said, "Nah, just thought I'd tag along. Mind if I join you?"

This time, Katherine frowned and didn't bother hiding her annoyance. "It's not convenient."

Most people would feel awkward and get out, but not Jonathan. He just grinned wider. "Come on, Katherine, I just treated you to a meal. Let me tag along? I'm bored out of my mind!"

Katherine frowned. "If you're bored, why come alone?"

Jonathan shrugged helplessly. "Had no choice! I'm single, remember?"

Katherine smirked. "Mr. Mostow, it's not hard for you to find a girlfriend. Just hit up one of your female friends and say you wanna travel. Someone will jump at the chance! Or you could go on one of those blind dates your family sets up and bring her along to get to know each other."
