Chapter 787 The Suspicious Figure Outside the Door

In the evening, Katherine, as usual, picked up her three children from daycare after work and headed home.

Just as the car reached the gate of the Melville Manor and was waiting for the electric gate to slowly open, someone carrying a bunch of cartoon helium balloons walked past their car.

Edith saw the balloons and exclaimed, "Mommy, can I get a pink balloon?"

Katherine, who was looking at her phone, heard Edith's request, turned her head to look out the car window, and saw the balloon seller passing by.

A hint of doubt flashed in Katherine's eyes, but she agreed. "Sure, you three can get out and each pick one."

"Thank you, Mommy!" Julian, Edith, and Charles thanked her in unison and then got out of the car with Katherine to choose their favorite balloons.

Even at the doorstep, Katherine stayed close to her children. While the kids were picking out balloons, she kept an eye on the balloon seller, a cheerful man in his forties who was engaging warmly with the children.

Soon, the three little ones had chosen their balloons and were happily holding them.

Katherine asked the balloon seller, "How much?"

The middle-aged man replied, "Ten dollars each, so thirty dollars for three."

Katherine nodded, took out her card, and asked, "Where do I swipe my credit card?"

The middle-aged man was taken aback and then said awkwardly, "Could you pay in cash? I have no POS terminal."

Katherine didn't have any cash on her. "Do you accept mobile payments?"

The middle-aged man looked embarrassed, "Cash payments only, please."

Katherine frowned, glanced at the man with suspicion, and then called Charles to lead Edith and Julian into the yard.

After seeing the three children enter the yard, Katherine turned to borrow some cash from her driver, Geraldo McGinnis, and gave it to the balloon seller.

While getting the change, Katherine squinted and asked, "Is this your first time selling balloons?"

The middle-aged man, looking a bit uneasy, replied, "Yes, I was recently laid off, and it's hard to find a good job at my age, so I thought of selling things to make money. Today is my first day, and I was a bit flustered, so I wasn't well-prepared."

Katherine politely said, "Good luck, things will get better," and then took the change and entered the Melville Manor gate.

Fiona, who had come home from work to change and get ready for a date, happened to see Katherine returning with the kids.

She curiously looked at the balloon seller who had just left and walked towards Katherine, asking, "Why is there someone selling balloons at our gate?"

Katherine also glanced back at the man, "You find it strange too?"

Fiona nodded, "Yeah, it is a bit strange. Our neighborhood isn't gated, but you don't usually see street vendors around here. Maybe he knows there are a lot of kids and thinks he can make some money."

Hearing Fiona's words, Katherine seemed to be triggered, squinted her eyes, and looked at the balloon seller again.

The helium balloons floated high, and even though the middle-aged man had disappeared from sight, the bunch of balloons could still be seen floating above the wall.

"Katherine, I have something to do, so I'm heading out!" Fiona said hurriedly.

Katherine snapped out of it and smiled, "A date with Nathan?"

Fiona blushed and shyly denied, "Katherine, it's not like that... I just have to grab a bite. See you later! Bye."

With that, Fiona ran off in her high heels.

Katherine smiled, withdrew her gaze, and prepared to take the kids inside.

At this moment, Edith tugged at her hand and cutely asked, "Mommy, is Aunt Fiona going on a date?"

Katherine looked down at Edith and replied, "Yes, she is! Maybe soon you'll have a new uncle!"

Edith tilted her little face and said, "I know who it is! It's the guy who went to the park for a picnic with us, right?"

"That's right! You're so smart!" Katherine squatted down and pinched Edith's little nose.

Edith rubbed her nose and said, "Mommy, when will you date too?"

Katherine said, "Mommy already has you three; who else would I date?"

Edith asked seriously, "Can't you date just because you have us? Mommy, don't you feel lonely being alone?"

Katherine hugged the thoughtful Edith, "Mommy isn't alone, I have you, Charles, and George with me every day. How could I be lonely?"

Edith pouted, "It's not the same! The mommies of my classmates at daycare all have their daddies with them. I want my mommy to have someone who loves her too."

Katherine was taken aback, not because Edith was worried about her marriage, but because she was concerned that the kids might feel sad seeing other kids with their dads at daycare.

"Edith, do you miss Daddy?" Katherine gently asked Edith.

Edith first nodded, then shook her head, "I do miss Daddy, but if he can't come back, I hope you find someone who can love and take care of you."

Katherine rubbed Edith's face, "Don't worry, sweetie. Mommy is strong enough to take care of myself and you all."

Edith, holding her balloon and hugging Katherine's neck, pouted, "Mommy, don't change the subject! If a handsome guy pursues you, you must consider it. Don't reject him because of me, Charles, and George! We all want you to be happy!"

"Okay! If a handsome guy pursues Mommy, I won't refuse, alright?" Katherine helplessly coaxed her, holding one and leading the other two into the house.

After dinner, Jackie and Sandra, entertained the three little ones in the living room while Katherine went upstairs alone.

After dinner, the sky was still a bit bright.

Katherine stood by the floor-to-ceiling window in her room, her sharp eyes spotting several suspicious figures hiding outside the yard.
