Chapter 420 Took Scarlett's Place
Vincent backed Bernard up, saying, "Bernard's right! Alice, you scared my savior. Aren't you going to apologize?"
Alice, too proud to apologize to Katherine, hesitated. But with Vincent speaking up, she couldn't ignore it.
Alice, more experienced than Katherine, knew how to play along. She had other ways to handle Katherine later.
So, she smiled and said, "Ms. Galatea, I'm sorry. I didn't recognize you earlier and was rude."
Katherine smiled back. "It's okay. I know you didn't mean it. No one told you I was today's guest."
Alice's smile stiffened. Was Katherine implying she was out of the loop in her own house?
Bernard, seeing Katherine in a positive light, didn't catch any hidden meaning. If there was, it was others overthinking.
After Alice's apology, Bernard, seeing Katherine's improved mood, pulled out a chair. "Katherine, sit here."
To spite Alice and Scarlett, Katherine accepted Bernard's offer and sat in Scarlett's usual spot next to Hellen. Seeing Katherine there, Scarlett's eyes reddened with anger. She bit her lip to keep her composure.
Bernard then sat next to Katherine. Hellen placed a large duck leg on Katherine's plate. "Katherine, you must be hungry. Eat up!"
Katherine smiled. "Thank you. But why so much food? We can't finish it all!"
Hellen replied, "Vincent and I didn't know your favorites, so we made a bit more. Don't be shy; eat what you like!"
Vincent added, "Yes, Katherine, don't be shy! If you don't like something, let Bernard move it away for you!"
Looking at the table full of food, Katherine felt a bit overwhelmed. "But it's really too much."
"Grandparents just wanted to host you well. Eat more," Bernard said warmly, adding some homemade cold dishes to her bowl.
He remembered Laura loving these dishes as a kid and wondered if she still did.
Seeing the harmonious scene, Scarlett was furious, her nails digging into her palms.
Just then, Edwin walked over and greeted Vincent and Hellen. "Dad, Mom."
Vincent nodded and introduced, "Edwin, this is Katherine, who saved me earlier!"
Sitting next to his father, Edwin looked at Katherine and smiled. "We met in the garden earlier. Ms. Galatea, I didn't get to thank you then. Thank you for helping my dad."
Katherine didn't want to engage with her estranged father and replied coolly, "No need to thank me. It was nothing."
Edwin sensed her disinterest and stayed quiet.
No one waited for Alice and Scarlett to sit before starting to eat, leaving them fuming as they quietly took their seats.
At the table, the Mitchell family's elders and head were all focused on Katherine, constantly adding food to her plate, making sure she had everything she needed.
Scarlett, usually the center of attention, felt ignored and couldn't eat, glaring at Katherine and cursing her silently.
Alice noticed Scarlett's frustration and patted her leg under the table, signaling her to stay calm.
Scarlett calmed down and exchanged a knowing glance with Alice, understanding their plan.
"You all started eating without me?" Sunny frowned as he came downstairs, looking annoyed.
Bernard gave him a stern look. "Did you finish your homework?"
Sunny scratched his head guiltily. "I have a little left. I'm too hungry! Can I finish it after dinner?"
Since Katherine had just enjoyed his cold dishes, Bernard was in a good mood. "Go ahead and eat. We have an important guest today, so it's only right for you to join us."
Sunny glanced at Katherine. So, the whole family was having dinner with her?
Katherine was getting a lot of respect, even from Bernard!
Sunny, rarely seeing Bernard in a good mood, sat next to him and started eating heartily, occasionally glancing at Katherine.
Why was Katherine sitting in Scarlett's usual spot? Scarlett must be unhappy, right?
He looked across at Scarlett, who usually smiled warmly. But now, she wasn't eating, just stabbing her bowl with her utensils, her dark eyes fixed on Katherine.
Sigh! Scarlett was definitely unhappy!
But didn't Scarlett say this afternoon that she had made up with Katherine and happily showed her around the house?
Now, their relationship seemed bad again? Relationships between women were really complicated!
At this moment, Alice suddenly remembered something and stood up with a smile. "Oh! I prepared fresh juice for our guest in the kitchen!”
“I knew today's guest was a girl, and girls usually don't like alcohol, so I made fresh pomegranate juice!"
"I almost forgot! Wait, I'll go get it for Ms. Galatea to try!"
With that, Alice enthusiastically headed to the kitchen.
Seeing Alice in action, Scarlett's face flashed with anticipation.
The juice Alice mentioned was spiked with a significant amount of saffron juice!
Damn, Katherine's good fortune was about to end!
Soon, Alice returned with a large glass pitcher filled with chilled red juice.
