Chapter 949 What Time Is It Now
Linda responded obediently.
As soon as Nora opened the door to the hospital room, she saw Edwin standing hesitantly at the entrance and stopped in her tracks.
"What are you..."
Nora looked at Edwin in surprise, then turned her head to look at Claire on the hospital bed.
Claire was still clutching her chest, trying to regulate her uncomfortable breathing. Noticing that Nora had stopped and hadn't closed the door, she looked towards the entrance and her pupils suddenly contracted!
Someone she hadn't seen in nearly twenty years suddenly appeared before her, and both of their expressions were somewhat stunned.
After what felt like an eternity of silence, Claire averted her gaze and coldly said to Nora, "Nora, close the door!"
Nora snapped out of it, glanced at Edwin with a complicated expression, and tried to close the door.
However, the door didn't close successfully as Edwin's arm blocked it.
Although Edwin blocked the door, he seemed to know how unwelcome he was. In a deep voice, he said, "Let me in, I want to see her."
Nora felt a bit troubled and looked back at Claire, who was still turning her face away, exuding an air of rejection. She then shook her head at Edwin.
"She doesn't want to see you. You should leave."
Edwin still blocked the door, refusing to withdraw his arm. "I just want to see her."
Nora had no choice; closing the door in this situation would pinch Edwin's arm.
While Nora hesitated about what to do, Edwin took advantage of her unpreparedness, pushed the door open, and walked in!
By the time Nora reacted to stop him, it was already too late. "Wait, you can't go in."
Edwin entered the room but didn't dare to get too close. He stood about six feet away from Claire's bed. "Claire, you're still alive."
Claire lowered her eyes, took a deep breath, and said, "What? Are you disappointed that I'm still alive?"
Edwin's eyes, marked by the passage of time, darkened. He opened his mouth as if to explain something, but in the end, he simply said, "I'm just glad you're still alive."
Claire, already feeling unwell, found it even harder to breathe upon seeing Edwin, whom she didn't want to see. "You can leave now!"
Edwin paused and asked in a low voice, "Claire, why are you in the hospital? Are you sick?"
Claire still didn't look at him, her usually gentle demeanor now extremely intense. "It's none of your business! Please leave my room immediately!"
Edwin opened his mouth again but was interrupted by Claire,
"Get out! Now! Don't let me hear your voice again!"
Seeing Claire's agitation, Nora quickly walked over to Edwin. "Mr. Mitchell, Claire needs rest right now. Please leave. You can talk later!"
Edwin's eyes showed a hint of sadness, and he reluctantly turned and left the room.
Nora followed him out; she needed to find a doctor to check on Claire. Claire was already unwell, and seeing Edwin had agitated her even more, which was very worrying.
Seeing Nora come out, Edwin approached her and asked, "What's wrong with her? Is she sick?"
Nora looked at Edwin with some resentment and replied in a not-so-good tone, "She's not sick; she's injured."
Edwin's eyes tightened. "Injured? How did she get injured? Who hurt her?"
Nora said with a stern face, "You did!"
Edwin was stunned, too ashamed to speak.
Nora continued, "Everything started because of you! If it weren't for the Mitchell family forcing Claire into a corner, she wouldn't have had to entrust Katherine to someone else in a moment of desperation. Katherine wouldn't have suffered so much from a young age, and Claire wouldn't have been injured by that unreasonable Lillian when she went to confront that family! You've already made Claire's life hard enough. If you have any conscience left, I hope you won't appear in front of her again! You saw how much she doesn't want to see you!"
Edwin felt deeply ashamed but also puzzled. "I wronged her, but why did she hide from me like that, even entrusting Katherine to someone else? I've been looking for her all this time."
Hearing Edwin say this, Nora felt very angry. "Edwin, if your family hadn't sent people everywhere to hunt down Claire and Katherine, would she have been willing to temporarily entrust Katherine to someone else? You didn't believe in her innocence. The Mitchell family thought she ruined your reputation, forcing her to not even dare to return to her own family. She was afraid of implicating her family, so she took Katherine and hid everywhere! And now you stand here, acting all innocent, asking me such questions!"
The shock on Edwin's face was not feigned. "Hunt down? What do you mean by 'hunt down'?"
Nora frowned, showing disdain.
She had thought Edwin was remorseful, but it turned out he still had the nerve to play innocent. No wonder Claire didn't want to see him; he was too hypocritical!
"I don't have time to talk to you. Claire is waiting for me to call the doctor! If you have any conscience left, don't go in and disturb her now."
With that, Nora bypassed him and quickly walked towards the nurses' station.
Edwin stood there in a daze.
Sunny, who had been observing from a distance, walked over and asked, "Dad, are you okay?"
Edwin snapped out of it and waved his hand. "I'm fine. Let's go home."
Sunny nodded and supported the dazed Edwin towards the elevator.
Edwin then said to Sunny, "Send some people to protect the people in that room, but make sure they don't notice."
Sunny was taken aback for a moment but then agreed.
He had heard and seen everything just now and had roughly figured out who the woman in the hospital room was!
His own feelings were also very complicated. He was the son of Edwin and his later wife, Alice, and his mother and his sister...
Better not to mention it!
After leaving the hospital and getting into the car, Edwin remained dazed and out of it. No one knew what he was thinking.
Sunny, worried about Edwin, waved his hand in front of Edwin's eyes. "Dad, are you okay?"
Edwin snapped out of it and looked at Sunny, as if he had thought of something. "Sunny, what time is it now?"
Sunny checked his watch. "It's past four in the morning, almost dawn! Dad, you've been up all night without resting. Go home and get some sleep first!"
But Edwin said, "Sunny, we're not going home! Take me to the Summer Villa!"
