Chapter 749 Not My Child
The unattainable was always the most alluring.
Sophia sometimes couldn't tell if she truly loved Trevor or if it was just her obsession.
In any case, she couldn't let him go. She couldn't bear to see him with another woman, getting married, having children, and spending a lifetime together!
She walked into the bedroom of the suite and saw George already asleep on the bed, while Trevor was by the floor-to-ceiling window.
Trevor sat in his wheelchair, looking somewhat desolate as he gazed out the window, lost in thought.
Sophia observed for a while before speaking, "Trevor, is Julian asleep? Are you hungry? What would you like to eat? I can order something from the hotel."
Trevor didn't react immediately to her voice behind him. He just turned his head to look at her indifferently, "We've been eating hotel food for days. Julian and I both find it either too greasy or too bland. Why don't you go buy some groceries, and we can cook something ourselves?"
It was the first time Trevor had made such a request. Sophia frowned curiously, "But neither of us is very good at cooking."
Trevor replied, "We can learn as we go."
Trevor thought to himself, 'I'm already in this state, and I probably won't stand up again in this lifetime. Life sitting in a wheelchair every day is already very dull. If even the food isn't fresh, I'll find these days really boring.'
Sophia was stunned and couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for Trevor.
Alex used to be so full of life! Now, he spent his days in a wheelchair, letting the time slip away. It was hard not to think it was a tragedy.
And she bore a large part of the responsibility for this.
But she had no choice. She was afraid that if he recovered, he would leave her to be with Katherine.
Sophia snapped out of it, smiled guiltily, and said, "Okay, I'll go buy some groceries! There's a convenience store downstairs. I'll see what vegetables they have and buy a bit more. Trevor, is there anything specific you want to eat?"
Trevor replied indifferently, "Just buy whatever. We'll figure out how to cook it together when you get back."
Sophia was pleasantly surprised. Trevor rarely used "we" to refer to the two of them, and now he was even suggesting they figure out cooking together!
They finally seemed a bit like a married couple.
Sophia smiled. "Alright! I'll go buy them now and be right back!" she said, turning and walking out with a spring in her step.
She didn't notice that after she turned around, Trevor narrowed his eyes deeply, his expression unclear.
As the sound of Sophia leaving the suite faded, Trevor's expression shifted. He turned his wheelchair to face the bed.
Trevor looked down at the sleeping George and said in a deep voice, "Alright, stop pretending to be asleep."
George frowned guiltily, opened his eyes, and looked at Trevor with a mix of curiosity and embarrassment. "Daddy, how did you know I was pretending?"
Trevor narrowed his eyes, looking at George without a smile, and coldly said, "You call me 'Daddy' so easily. Do you call other men like that casually?"
George sat up, scratching his head, "Daddy, what are you talking about? I don't quite understand."
Trevor said seriously, "You're not my son."
George was shocked, and his guilty expression was no longer concealable. He pouted and mumbled for a while before admitting, "Alright, I admit it. I'm not your son Julian."
Seeing that the kid was at least honest, Trevor raised an eyebrow, "Why are you pretending to be my son and coming back with me? Did someone put you up to this? What's your purpose?"
George quickly shook his head, waving his hands to prove his in defense, "No, no! I have no ulterior motive! I just think you're very cool and have a dad vibe. Since I never had a dad growing up, I wanted to experience what it's like to have one."
Looking at George's aggrieved yet sincere expression, Trevor felt an indescribable tug at his heart.
He had many suspicions, one of which was that George might have been disguised by someone with ill intentions, deliberately swapped with Julian to spy on him and Sophia.
But he didn't find any signs of disguise on George's face. It felt just like real skin.
So, he dismissed that suspicion.
Trevor asked again, "When did you replace Julian and come to my side?"
He actually had a rough idea, able to recall when his son started acting differently. He just wanted to confirm.
George spread his hands, "I really didn't do it on purpose. It was all a coincidence! Last Saturday, my mommy took me and my siblings for a picnic. On the lawn, I saw someone flying a robot kite. Because I really like robots, I followed the kite string!"
"Then, I saw a boy with a robot mask collecting the kite! I went over to ask where he got the kite and begged him to let me try on the mask. The boy couldn't resist my pestering and took off the mask for me to try."
"When I put on the mask, my mommy came to find me. But for some reason, she took the boy away and left me behind. When I tried to chase after my mommy, the woman named Sophia appeared and stopped me, saying I shouldn't run around. Then I saw you. And then, you took me back. That's what happened!"
After hearing George explain the sequence of events, Trevor recalled that Saturday.
Julian went to get the kite, and when Sophia found him, he kept crying, saying he wanted to find his mommy.
It turned out he wasn't looking for Sophia but his real mommy.
But why did his son look exactly like another woman's son?
There were cases of people looking alike in this world, but could it really be such a coincidence?
Trevor thought for a while and then said, "Call your mommy, tell her this address, and have her bring my son here to exchange for you. Also, tell her that if anything happens to my son, I won't let her off."
George frowned and said, "You don't need to worry. My mommy is super nice. Your son must have been mistaken for me by my mommy because we look alike! Mommy will treat him very well!"
Trevor considered himself a cautious and suspicious person, but in this bizarre situation, he didn't feel very anxious.
