Chapter 465 What Trouble Have I Caused
Katherine snapped, "If you've got something to say, say it here. If not, leave. I don't have time for this!"
Joshua couldn't stand her attitude. "What did you say? Katherine, don't forget who raised you!"
Katherine laughed. "Oh, I remember. It was the nuns at the church, not you, Mr. Galatra."
Joshua was speechless, his authoritative facade crumbling.
Lillian stepped in, holding Joshua's arm and sighing sarcastically, "Joshua, Katherine's now Mrs. Melville. She doesn't see us as her foster parents anymore!"
If Joshua calling himself her foster father was laughable, Lillian calling herself her foster mother was downright absurd..
Lillian never raised her and did many bad things to her. How could she call herself a foster mother?
Katherine looked at Lillian like she was a joke. "Lillian, don't get it twisted. I never saw you as family."
Lillian's face stiffened. "You..."
Sherry stepped up, pointing at Katherine. "Katherine, don't get too smug! Once the Melville family knows your true nature, they won't keep you around!"
Katherine squinted at Sherry. True nature? Bad reputation?
What did the Galatea family want today?
"What's all the noise about?" An elderly but kind voice interrupted.
Everyone turned to see Sandra being helped out by a maid.
Sandra glanced at the strangers, then looked at Katherine. "Katherine, what's going on? Are these people from your family?"
Katherine felt a headache coming on. "Grandma, no..."
"Yes! We're Katherine's family!" Joshua interrupted, stepping forward.
He dropped his authoritative act, bowing slightly and introducing himself obsequiously, "Hello, ma'am. You must be Mrs. Sandra Melville. I'm Katherine's father, Joshua Galatea!"
Sandra scrutinized Joshua. She could gauge a person's character with a glance and didn't like this middle-aged man who looked spineless.
But since he claimed to be Katherine's father, she had to be polite. She nodded. "Hmm, hello."
Then she turned to Katherine. "Katherine, is this your father?"
Katherine shook her head. "No."
Joshua said, "Yes!"
Seeing the conflicting answers, Sandra frowned but trusted Katherine more.
"Katherine, is he or isn't he?"
Katherine firmly shook her head again, supporting Sandra. "Grandma, he's not my father."
Sandra asked worriedly, "Then what are they here for? Do you need help dealing with them?"
Sandra's concern warmed Katherine's heart. She smiled. "Grandma, don't worry. I'll handle this. You should go inside and rest."
Katherine turned to Fiona, who was still standing nearby. "Fiona, take Grandma inside. Don't let her worry."
For once, Fiona listened, nodded, and helped Sandra turn around. Sandra was still uneasy but didn't say anything more, seeing Katherine's firm attitude.
"Mrs. Sandra Melville, wait! We really are Katherine's family. She's just ungrateful and doesn't acknowledge us after marrying into a wealthy family!" Sherry shouted at Sandra, who had already turned around.
Sandra stopped in her tracks.
Seeing Sherry's words were effective, Lillian also shouted, "Ma'am, we really are Katherine's family. Why else would we come here? Ever since she married into the Melville family, she despises us for being poor and never contacts us! Ma'am, I see you're a person of integrity. A prestigious family like the Melvilles wouldn't appreciate an ungrateful and snobbish granddaughter-in-law!"
Lillian nudged Joshua to say something.
Joshua got the hint. "Yes! Katherine really is my daughter. I'm her father!"
Sandra turned back, focusing on Joshua. She squinted her wise, old eyes. "You say you're Katherine's father. Why does Katherine say you're not?"
Joshua explained, "I'm not her biological father; I'm her foster father."
Sandra frowned. "Foster father? How long did you raise Katherine?"
Joshua quickly replied, "Over ten years. I took her in when she was four or five, and she took my surname, Galatea. But ever since she married into your family, she despises me and never visits. Maybe she's afraid I'll embarrass her! I'm really heartbroken!"
Sandra asked, "If you're heartbroken, why did you come to find her? What do you want from Katherine this time?"
Joshua looked guilty. After a moment, he said, "Katherine caused some trouble in the countryside, and people came to settle accounts with us! I had no choice but to bring them here to find her."
Katherine frowned. What trouble had she caused in the countryside? She didn't even know!
Sandra's gaze turned stern. "Mr. Galatea, you'd better speak clearly. What trouble did Katherine cause that made you come here?"
Joshua sighed heavily. "It's a long story! Why don't you ask the person involved yourself!"
He turned to Sherry's old sports car and shouted, "You guys, come out!"
