Chapter 871 It Was Locked

Ambrosia said, "You better keep an eye on Scarlett and stop her from causing any more trouble. Katherine already has a lot on her plate lately."

Sunny's expression grew more serious. "I know, Katherine is already very worried about Alex. I won't let anyone else bother her."

Ambrosia sat down and adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses. "I hope you can make the right decisions and not just blindly protect Scarlett."

Sunny used to blindly believe that Scarlett was the kindest and most gentle person in the world. Later, she realized that Scarlett had been influenced by Alice to be very selfish and would use anyone to achieve her goals.

"Don't worry, I won't. Even though they are both my sisters, I know very well who is right and who is wrong."

Ambrosia glanced at him, her gaze lingering for a moment before she fell silent.

In the evening, Fiona returned home and told Katherine about seeing Scarlett today.

Katherine was slightly surprised and squinted her eyes in thought for a moment before saying, "I see."

Katherine's reaction was so calm that Fiona felt she might be overreacting.

"Katherine, Scarlett used to harm you so much. Now that she's out, aren't you afraid she'll harm you again?"

Katherine, looking tired, held her forehead. "If she could have harmed me, she would have succeeded back then. Besides, I can't control her actions. If she wants to harm me again, there's no way to avoid it."

Fiona frowned, feeling very conflicted. Katherine and Alex had just reunited, Sophia was still an unresolved issue, and now Scarlett had appeared. Why couldn't things just settle down?

Katherine raised an eyebrow, looking at Fiona's worried face. "What's wrong? Scarlett is out, and you're so unhappy? Didn't you always consider her your good friend?"

Fiona, realizing her reaction, felt a bit embarrassed. "I was young then and didn't know how to tell good people from bad! Katherine, it's been so many years, why are you still holding a grudge? I'm on good terms with you now!"

Katherine chuckled, "Alright, stop pouting! You just got back from a date, you must be tired. Go wash up and rest!"

"Katherine, you're teasing me again!" Fiona blushed, turned to leave, and saw George and Edith sleeping on the bed.

It was a peaceful and harmonious scene, but Fiona noticed something was off and asked, "Katherine, why are only George and Edith here? Where's Charles?"

Katherine, sitting on the sofa, furrowed her brows. The reason she hadn't slept yet was because she felt something was missing without Charles.

"He said he wanted to learn to be independent and sleep in his own room."

Fiona was surprised. "What? Charles is usually so clingy to you. Why would he suddenly want to be independent? Katherine, did you say something to him today?"

Katherine shook her head. "No. I don't know what's going on with Charles. He insisted, so I let him try."

Fiona thought for a moment. "Hmm, you're right! He should set an example and be the first to learn independence! Let him try!"

Then, Fiona left.

Katherine sat on the sofa for a while, still worried, and got up to go to Charles' room.

Usually, the three children slept with her, Edith on her right, and George and Charles on her left.

All three children wanted to be close to her. Charles, being considerate, always let George sleep next to her while he slept on the outside. He often turned off the lights at night.

Charles's change today made Katherine reflect on whether she had done something wrong to make Charles unhappy.

Thinking about this, she walked to Charles' room door.

Katherine didn't knock but tried to turn the doorknob and found it locked.

She was stunned. She didn't expect such a young child like Charles to lock the door when sleeping.

It would have been a lie to say she wasn't disappointed. Often, it wasn't just children who depended on their mothers; mothers also came to rely on their children in many ways.

Charles, who had usually been so attached to Katherine, suddenly didn't need her anymore.

This had been deeply hurtful for a mother.

Katherine stood at the door for a long time, thinking it over and still feeling uneasy. She went through the study next door and climbed in through the balcony.

In the room, Charles was curled up on the bed, holding a teddy bear, frowning in his sleep.

It was a very insecure sleeping posture. Even so, he locked the door, forcing himself to be independent.

Katherine couldn't help but think of her own childhood. Forcing oneself to be independent was not a pleasant experience.

She gently tucked Charles in and then left through the balcony.

That night, she didn't sleep well.

The next morning, Ambrosia called early to report the news she had just received.

"Katherine, Scarlett is out. I heard she behaved well inside and got a reduced sentence, so she was released early."

Katherine was having breakfast and wasn't very surprised. "Really? Where is she staying now? She didn't go back to the Mitchell Mansion?"

Ambrosia replied truthfully, "No, she rented a single room outside and is currently working at a restaurant."

This surprised Katherine. Scarlett, who had always been pampered and valued her dignity, not only accepted reformation in prison but also worked as a waitress after getting out.

Could it be that she had truly reformed?

"Katherine, I've had people watching her. There's nothing unusual. She just goes to work and then returns to her small room."

Katherine nodded, "I see. Keep an eye on her and report any abnormalities."

Ambrosia said, "Yes, Katherine! Also, the information you asked me to investigate about Summit Innovations Group is ready. I'll send the compiled data to your email shortly."

Katherine squinted her eyes. "Alright, good!"

After hanging up, Katherine took two big bites of her sandwich and told Jackie and Sandra she was heading back to her room to check the email from Ambrosia.

Brent had come to the country because Sophia had encountered problems while handling his domestic assets, causing a standstill.

He had come personally to resolve the situation, eager to sell off those valuable assets.

Katherine found it strange from the beginning. Even if Brent and his family had been living abroad for years, their valuable assets in the country could still bring in a significant income. There was no need to sell them off.
