Chapter 574 A Pretty Good Kid
When Ambrosia figured it out, it was already too late.
The video call connected, and there was Sunny, looking kinda ticked off. He puffed up his chest and said, "Ambrosia, I forgive you! I messed up too. Shouldn't have barged into your office and messed with your work, making you call Bernard! Next time, I'll chill and wait till you're off work to bug you!"
Frank chimed in, "Good on you for realizing Ambrosia hates being bugged at work and owning up to it."
Sunny's eyes narrowed at the camera. "You again? Why are you holding her phone?"
Before Frank could answer, Ambrosia snatched the phone. "Hang up!"
"Ambrosia—" Sunny's voice cut off as she hung up and turned off the phone. She glared at Frank, "Are you nuts?"
Frank shrugged, "Just wanted to see if Sunny's serious about you. Seems like he's alright, a bit full of himself, but worth keeping around."
"Get lost," Ambrosia rolled her eyes, turned away, and closed her eyes to ignore him.
Frank chuckled slyly and noticed Teresa giving him a dirty look through the rearview mirror.
The Melville Manor.
After getting out of the car, Teresa saw a bunch of bodyguards at the entrance, which was kinda weird. She walked up and rang the doorbell. The Melville family's butler, Anton, popped up on the screen. "Ms. Harris!"
Teresa nodded, "Anton, I'm here to see Katherine! Is she home?"
Anton asked cautiously, "Mrs. Melville is home! Ms. Harris, are you alone?"
Teresa replied, "No, I got two friends with me!"
"Who are your friends? Do they know Mrs. Melville?" Anton asked again.
Teresa nodded, "Yeah, they know Katherine well. Just tell her I brought Mr. Perez and Ms. Hawthorne to see her!"
Anton hesitated for a moment, "Alright, Ms. Harris, please wait a moment."
The screen went dark.
Teresa thought, 'Anton must be asking Katherine for the okay. But when did security get so tight? There weren't any bodyguards here before.'
Frank and Ambrosia got out of the car too and exchanged looks when they saw the beefy bodyguards at the entrance of the Melville Manor.
After a bit, Anton came out with a few servants carrying some tools.
"Anton, did Katherine say my friends can come in?" Teresa asked.
Anton looked serious, glanced at Frank and Ambrosia, and said, "Ms. Harris, since your friends are new here, they need to go through some security checks to make sure they're not carrying anything dangerous before seeing Mrs. Melville."
Teresa was stunned. "Security checks?"
'No wonder those tools looked familiar! They're just like the ones used at airports, but...' Teresa thought.
"Anton, come on, this isn't necessary. They've known Katherine for years. They're good people!"
Anton stood firm, "Ms. Harris, these are Mr. Melville's orders. Anyone visiting Mrs. Melville has to go through security checks. We're just following protocol."
Teresa sighed, feeling a bit stuck. "Alright, I'll go talk to them and see if they're cool with it."
Anton nodded respectfully, "Okay."
Teresa thought it was overkill to frisk guests at the door. She wasn't sure if Frank and Ambrosia would be okay with it. She walked over, ready to explain, but Frank beat her to it, "It's fine. We can handle the security checks."
Teresa was surprised. "Mr. Perez, you and Ms. Hawthorne aren't upset?"
Frank grinned. "Mr. Melville's just looking out for Katherine. We get it."
Teresa felt a bit awkward. "As long as you don't mind! The Melville Manor wasn't like this before. Maybe it's because Katherine's pregnant now, and Alex is super paranoid!"
"No worries, tell them to go ahead and check us," Frank said.
"Okay, I'll let them know."
After Teresa explained to Anton, he had his team do a full-body security check on Frank and Ambrosia and politely turned down the nutritional supplements they brought. "I'm sorry. Mr. Melville is very particular about Mrs. Melville's health and doesn't allow store-bought items. I'll let her know about your kind gesture, but the gifts can't come in."
Frank smiled. "Makes sense. Mr. Melville really looks out for his wife!"
Anton didn't catch the sarcasm in Frank's tone. Once the security check was done, he led them into the courtyard.
The Melville Manor's living room was huge and bright, with just a few servants around.
After seating them, Anton said respectfully, "Please wait here. Mrs. Melville will be down shortly."
Then he went upstairs to get Katherine.
Apparently, Anton hadn't asked Katherine for permission beforehand.
About five minutes later, Katherine slowly came down the stairs.
She was in casual clothes, her hair tied up, looking a bit tired, with Charles by her side.
A small child was with her.
When Katherine saw Frank and Ambrosia, she kept her expression neutral and avoided eye contact.
Teresa stood up, eagerly went over, and complained, "Katherine, the security here is so tight now! We had to go through checks, and they wouldn't let us bring in the supplements we got for you. It's stricter than airport security!"
Katherine smiled. "All thanks to Alex."
Teresa laughed awkwardly, "Alex's arrangements are a bit much! But he's doing it for you and the baby's safety. He must be worried since he's not here."
Katherine gave a sarcastic smile and said nothing. She led Charles to the sofa, casually glancing at Frank and Ambrosia, "What brings you two here?"
Seeing Katherine safe and sound, Frank and Ambrosia felt somewhat relieved but also sensed that the vibe in the Melville Manor was off.
