Chapter 469 Ungrateful Person
Camlia's mention of "repair" had everyone nodding along, except Fiona.
Fiona frowned and asked, "Repair what?"
Her question drew disdainful looks from everyone. Even Camlia was at a loss for words.
Sandra, annoyed, slapped Fiona's hand. "Adults are talking. Don't interrupt!"
Fiona pulled her hand back, confused and hurt. "Grandma, I'm older than Katherine!"
Sandra snapped, "This isn't about you. Go to your room!"
Fiona sighed, "Fine, I won't say anything!"
She didn't want to leave; she wanted to see what would happen.
Despite not liking Katherine much, Fiona didn't believe she had the moral issues Camlia suggested. She had tried digging up dirt on Katherine before but found nothing except her poor background.
Seeing Alex silent, Camlia jumped in. "Mr. Melville, you shouldn't marry a liar. She doesn't deserve you. It's not too late to find someone better."
Alex's expression didn't change. He looked at Camlia coldly. "Madam, you seem well-versed in certain medical procedures?"
Camlia blushed, embarrassed. "I've seen ads. Many girls get repairs to marry into good families. Don't be fooled, Mr. Melville!"
Alex smirked. "I know Katherine's body well enough. No need for outsiders to worry. When she was with me, she was still a..."
Katherine, who had been calm, blushed. If he continued, she wouldn't be able to stand it.
"Enough, stop talking. Camlia, if you have complaints, take it to court. We'll handle it legally," Katherine interrupted.
Alex stopped mid-sentence, smiled slightly, and gently stroked Katherine's hair. "Why embarrassed now? Weren't you the one who kissed me in public?"
Katherine flushed. "Alex!"
Sandra was still there!
Seriously, could he be a bit more proper in front of the elders?
Katherine moved aside, trying to distance herself from him.
But Alex wouldn't let her go. He wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close. As Katherine was about to struggle, he whispered in her ear, half-petting, half-threatening, "Behave. Don't move, or I'll kiss you right here."
Katherine was furious. With him holding her like this, she felt so embarrassed in front of Sandra!
But she knew Alex wasn't bluffing. If she struggled, he might really kiss her in public.
Fine! Katherine gave up resisting, burying her face in Alex's chest, pretending she didn't exist, ignoring everyone.
Sandra watched the couple's playful banter, her gaze softening. Seeing Alex's trust in Katherine eased her worries.
Trust was crucial in a relationship. Katherine was a good kid, and Sandra felt foolish for doubting her because of outsiders.
Camlia, who came to stir trouble, looked increasingly displeased. She hadn't achieved her goal and was being ignored by the couple.
Seeing Alex holding Katherine so tenderly, Camlia's frown deepened. ’Why wasn't my plan working?‘ she thought.
Lillian, worried their efforts would be in vain, couldn't stand seeing Katherine doing well in the Melville family. In her heart, Katherine had taken Sherry's place.
So, Lillian spoke up, "Mr. Melville, Camlia is honest. She didn't come to stir trouble. I think you should be cautious and not be deceived."
Alex played with Katherine's hand, his fingers gently massaging her fingertips. He looked up at Lillian. "You're my wife's adoptive mother, right?"
Feeling honored, Lillian nodded eagerly. "Yes, it's rare for you to remember me!"
Alex's gaze turned cold. "As her adoptive mother, you're helping an outsider slander her. Shows you never cared for her."
Lillian's face changed, quickly explaining, "No, it's not like that... Katherine is ungrateful and doesn't repay our kindness. I saw her true colors and feared she'd deceive you."
Alex stared at Lillian's malicious face, his gaze cold. "What's your purpose? After all this, what do you want?"
Lillian, having achieved nothing, signaled to Camlia to speak.
Camlia blinked and then looked at Alex. "I want Katherine to compensate for Fern's loss of not attending college, arrange a decent job for my daughter at the Melville Group, and give her a bright future."
