Chapter 641 I'm Actually Very Affectionate

Sophia plopped the fruits she brought on Alex's desk and casually sank into the guest chair across from him. She popped open the box, grinning. "Yeah, it might be kinda dull, but you're here. Plus, I wanna meet some new peeps and try out new stuff. Life's all about diving into the unknown, right?"

With that, she speared a piece of chilled watermelon with a fork and handed it to Alex.

After a marathon meeting and some crappy moments, Alex was mentally fried. He grabbed the fruit from Sophia and popped it into his mouth.

Sophia snagged a piece of watermelon for herself, took a tiny bite, blinked, and asked, "Alex, you’re really into Katherine, huh? She must’ve treated you like a king, right?"

Hearing Katherine's name, Alex's face darkened. After a long pause, he shot back, "How do you think she treated me so well?"

Sophia, munching on her watermelon and resting her chin on her hand, smirked. "Like me, for instance. Bringing you snacks, checking in on you, asking when you'll be home, cooking your fave meals, or setting up cute surprises and always showing you love."

Alex chuckled bitterly, thinking Katherine probably didn’t even know his favorite food.

Seeing Alex's gloomy silence, Sophia put on a look of sudden realization. "Oh man, seriously? Katherine didn’t do any of that? Sorry, Alex, I didn’t know you were the only one putting in the effort."

Yeah, he was the only one trying. Katherine never took him seriously. He had gone thirty years without a loss, and now Katherine had played him.

Sophia awkwardly said, "Alex, I think I hit a nerve. Let’s switch topics. My 25th birthday’s coming up soon!"

Alex snapped back to reality and looked at her. "What do you want for your birthday? Just tell Leander."

Sophia sighed inwardly, thinking, 'Alex is still the same, always half-assing my birthday gifts. But this time, I’m not after a gift.'

She said, "Alex, anything’s cool for the gift. Actually, I need a favor."

Alex raised an eyebrow. "What’s up?"

Sophia's face lit up with a cheerful smile. "It’s my first birthday here. I wanna throw a party, but a lot of my family and friends from abroad can’t make it. Can you help me invite some friends? I want a big crowd to celebrate with."

No biggie. Alex nodded lightly. "I'll have Hilton round up more people for you."

Sophia lit up, grinning ear to ear. "Thanks a ton! Back in Markovia, I'd party with friends till dawn every birthday. Here, I don't know many folks, and I'm not tight with Hilton and the gang. With your help, it'll be way better!"

Alex sipped his coffee, his face unreadable, like his mind was miles away.

Noticing Alex's distraction, Sophia rolled her eyes and added, "Alex, could you invite Katherine too? Our first meeting was kinda rough, but I still wanna be friends with her. Can you swing that?"

Alex's eyes snapped to Sophia at the mention of Katherine. "Why are you so keen on being friends with her?"

Sophia smiled. "Because we're friends, and I should be friends with Katherine too, right? That way, we can all hang out together."

Alex squinted. "Maybe that's just you."

Sophia blinked, puzzled. "What do you mean? You think Katherine won't feel the same?"

Alex glanced at the bandage on Sophia's forehead. "If she felt the same, she wouldn't have clocked you yesterday!"

Sophia touched her forehead. "I almost forgot about that. Alex, I really don't mind. I get where Katherine's coming from. Even though we're friends, I'm still a woman. It's normal for her to be jealous of seeing you with me. It's cool, and I still wanna be friends with her."

Alex sneered. He didn't think Katherine hit her out of jealousy; she was just pissed.

Sophia figured it was time to bounce. Hanging around longer would just bug Alex. She stood up and said, "Alex, I won't bug you anymore. Make sure to eat more of these fruits. You work super hard, so take care of yourself. I'm out. Thanks for helping with the party!"

Alex gave a slight nod, not bothering to get up.

After Sophia left, Alex's eyes drifted to the box of fruit on the table. Katherine never thought of him, let alone brought him any fruit.

Katherine sneezed a bunch of times in a row.

Frank knocked and walked in. "Katherine, I heard you sneezing. You catch a cold?"

He reached out to feel her forehead, only relaxing when he confirmed her temperature was normal.

"It's nothing. Go back to the company. Stop ditching everything on Ambrosia. Even though she's capable, she'll get worn out," Katherine lectured.

Frank shrugged. "But I'm in a funk today. I don't wanna go to the company."

"Who ticked you off?" Katherine raised an eyebrow.

Frank plopped down next to Katherine, pretending to be all pouty as he rested his head on her shoulder. "Teresa! She's giving me the cold shoulder."

"Why should she bother with someone like you?" Katherine retorted.

Frank said, "Katherine, it's one thing for others to say I'm bad, but why you too? I'm actually a sweetheart!"
