Chapter 660 Have You Got Your Documents Reissued?

Sophia wiped the lipstick off the corner of her mouth with her finger, grinning. "Oh, I just wanted to thank you for the chance! If you hadn't pissed off Alex yesterday, I wouldn't have swooped in! The moment I walked in, he jumped up, hugged me, and kissed me so hard he messed up my lipstick!"

So, he ditched the camera to make out with Sophia. Katherine felt a wave of nausea.

Alex's mixed signals towards Katherine were just to keep her around and protect the kid.

Maybe Alex still had a thing for Katherine, but it wasn't just for her.

Sophia, waltzing in and out of his office, made that pretty clear.

Katherine smirked, "Congrats! But playing the shy girl doesn't really match your wild vibe, Mrs. Coleman."

Sophia's face twitched for a sec, then she smiled. "Katherine..."

But before she could finish, Katherine cut the video call. Sophia glared at the black screen.

Even though Katherine acted all cool, she couldn't believe Katherine wasn't affected!

The truth was, last night, Alex didn't take her up on her offer to go upstairs for a drink. He just had the driver take her home.

But who cared about the truth? As long as Katherine kept misunderstanding and refused to forgive Alex, the gap between them would just get bigger, and they'd eventually drift apart.

Just then, Alex pushed the door open and came back. He'd been out meeting a guest.

Seeing Sophia sitting on his desk, Alex frowned. "What are you doing here? Who let you in?"

Sophia quickly stood up, trying to look casual. "Alex, you're back! I've only been here for a minute! When I came, the secretary wasn't there, so I knocked. No answer, so I peeked in. And, well... these high heels are killing me, and I twisted my ankle on the steps, so I sat down for a bit! Alex, I just sat in your chair for a sec; you don't mind, right?"

Alex walked over, glanced at the desk, then at the phone that had already hung up. "Did you touch my phone?"

Sophia shook her head. "No way! When I sat down, your phone was already off! It's kinda weird you put it on the pen holder, but I know you hate people touching your phone, so I didn't."

Alex narrowed his eyes. "What do you want?"

Sophia smiled and picked up a fancy gift box she had brought. "Alex, I brought you some black truffle chocolates. A friend from Markovia gave them to me for my birthday. There are two boxes, and I thought they were delicious, so I brought you one to try!"

Alex didn't even look at the gift box. He just grabbed his phone and checked the duration of the call with Katherine. "Don't bother bringing me stuff like this anymore."

Sophia sighed, "Alex, come on. I was just trying to be nice. I thought you might need a break and some good food. Can't I do that? Are we still cool?"

Alex opened Katherine's Twitter and saw she had just posted a tweet.

She wrote: [When I was a kid, I was scared of ghosts because they were ugly and scary. Now that I'm grown, I'm scared of people because they look nice but aren't.]

Alex squinted and thought, 'Who is she talking about?'

He commented under her tweet: [Don't worry, I'm here.]

Sophia, feeling ignored, tried again. "Alex? Are you even listening to me?"

Alex looked up and asked, "Did you get all your documents reissued?"

A flicker of guilt crossed Sophia's face. "Well, it's kinda tricky to get them reissued from abroad. It might take a bit longer."

She had lied about losing her documents to dodge going with him to get a divorce, using it as an excuse to stall.

Her passport and other documents were also "lost," making it hard for her to fly back and handle it in person.

Alex said, "Get them reissued ASAP."

Sophia nodded and thought for a moment before saying, "Alex, I actually don't mind keeping things as they are! This way, I can help you and Katherine avoid some drama. What's wrong with that?"

Alex coldly replied, "I do mind."

Sophia felt a bit awkward but forced a smile. "You're concerned Katherine might get the wrong impression, huh? I understand. I'll head back and nudge my dad to pick up the pace for me!"

Alex absentmindedly nodded, his eyes glued to his phone, waiting for Katherine to reply to his comment.

Seeing that Alex wasn't interested in talking to her, Sophia said, "Well, Alex, just get back to work. I'll head out now!"

"Wait." Alex looked up and stopped her.

Sophia paused, looking pleasantly surprised. "What is it, Alex?"

Alex raised his chin towards the gift box on the desk. "Take your chocolates with you. I don't like it."

Sophia's face stiffened. "It's okay, you can give them to Katherine. Girls love chocolates!"

Alex said, "If she wants chocolates, I'll buy them for her."

Sophia felt quite embarrassed and had no choice but to pick up the box of chocolates. "You're right. I didn't think it through. I'll take them with me! Then I'll come see you another time!"

Alex nodded slightly. "Then, I hope your documents are reissued."

Sophia felt really down. Did he mean he only wanted to see her again to finalize the divorce and didn't want to see her otherwise?

Despite feeling bad, Sophia forced herself to appear composed. "Alright, Alex, don't worry!"

With that, Sophia turned and left.

Alex stood by his desk, staring at his phone for a while, but there was no reply from Katherine.

He tugged at his tie, feeling a bit irritated.

Alex raised his hand and pressed the desk phone, calling the secretary. "Get some people in here to take my office chair out and toss it. Bring in a new one."

The secretary was puzzled but didn't dare to ask why, only saying, "Okay."

Soon, a new office chair was brought in, and the old one was thrown away.
