Chapter 258 I'm Here to Find Someone

Everyone stared at Alex, who had just appeared out of nowhere, and started whispering.

One guest blurted out, "Oh my God! Is that really Alex at the Mitchell family's banquet?"

Another guest chimed in, "He must be here for Ms. Mitchell, right? Breaking the rules for love and showing goodwill despite the feud—how romantic!"

A third guest added, "It looks like the long-standing feud between the Melville and Mitchell families might finally be ending!"

A fourth guest remarked, "I heard Alex insisted on getting engaged to Ms. Mitchell against his family's wishes!"

Someone else joked, "Not gonna lie, Alex is really handsome! I'm so jealous of Ms. Mitchell. She has a doting brother and a stunning fiancé!"

Another guest sighed. "Yeah, I'm jealous too!"

Amidst the whispers, Alex lowered his eyes and responded to Scarlett. "Yes."His deep, calm voice was lazy and casual, making their relationship seem even more certain to the onlookers. It was like the intimacy of an old married couple who didn't need many words.

But when Bernard saw his sister with Alex, henarrowed his eyes. Alex's arrival was a surprise to him. He glanced at his secretary Katherine, who remained calm and composed, showing no particular emotion.

Mrs. Mitchell, however, was not as composed. Her cold gaze fixed on Alex, and she looked at her niece Scarlett with disdain. She walked over in high heels and scoffed, "Mr. Melville, I don't recall inviting you to my birthday party. Is this how the Melville family usually behaves?"

Alex's face was cold as ice, his piercing gaze fixed on her. After a moment, he said, "Sorry to intrude, but I'm here to find someone."

Mrs. Mitchell frowned. "Find someone? Who are you looking for at my birthday party?"

"A woman," Alex answered.

Mrs. Mitchell didn't care who Alex was looking for; she was just displeased with his uninvited appearance. "Mr. Melville, it's one thing to crash my event, but did you follow the rules? Did you bring a female companion?"

Alex was about to respond when Scarlett, trying to ease the tension, smiled and interjected, "Aunt, he's here to find me. I'm his plus-one today!"

Mrs. Mitchell looked at her niece with even more disdain, frowning in frustration, but ultimately, she couldn't do anything about it.

But Alex didn't play along with Scarlett's explanation. He bypassed her and headed straight for another girl.

Katherine took a deep breath, thinking, if it's meant to be, it can't be avoided. She braced herself for whatever Alex might do, ready to stay composed.

Alex walked right up to her, almost bumping into her, but then he sidestepped naturally and kept going.

Katherine froze, stunned.

"Who allowed you to come here so late without going home?" A deep, stern voice reprimanded from behind.

Katherine snapped back to reality and turned around.

Standing among the onlookers, Teresa, with a defiant look, said, "Alex, I just came to attend my social event after work. I didn't do anything wrong!"

After responding to Alex, Teresa glanced at Katherine, waved slightly, and smiled mischievously.

Katherine realized that Alex was here to find his niece, not her. She felt a wave of relief wash over her. Alex wasn't here for her, and he didn't react when he saw her. Good.

At that moment, Scarlett walked past Katherine towards Alex, leaned close to him, and warmly greeting Teresa, "Teresa, when did you get here? I didn't see you earlier!"

Teresa's eyelids drooped, and she looked at Scarlett indifferently. "I've been here for a while. I was downstairs dancing and chatting with friends. I heard some commotion here, so I came to check it out, and then I saw."

Before she could finish, Teresa felt Alex's seemingly calm but actually murderous gaze, and she swallowed her words, falling silent.

Alex said sternly, "Go home immediately. Leander is at the door; he'll take you."

Teresa dared not defy Alex's orders. Reluctantly, she shrank her neck. "Got it, I'll go home."

Annoyed, she muttered under her breath, "So annoying. I'm already twenty-one, not a child. What's wrong with staying out a bit later after work? Adults can come home late, too!"

Still muttering, she walked towards the door. As she passed Katherine, Teresa didn't forget to give her a playful look and stick out her tongue.

Katherine smiled and returned the glance. Teresa hadn't changed; she was still so worrisome.

Under the onlookers' discussions and gazes, Teresa obediently went downstairs alone.

After Teresa left, Scarlett sighed and said, "Alex, you seem a bit too strict with Teresa. Since she's here, she should have some fun before leaving. Even if it's late, she could stay over with me, or we could have our driver take her home."

Alex replied, "You can't control her temper."

Scarlett smiled gently and said, "Well, I think Teresa's personality is quite good, a bit like Sunny's. She's just a bit stubborn and mischievous, but she's actually very sensible!"

Alex didn't respond to Scarlett. He raised his eyebrows, his long, dark eyes staring at Katherine as if entangling her with invisible threads.

Katherine felt the pressure. On the surface, she remained calm, but inside, she was in turmoil. She wished she could sprout wings and fly away from this place!
