Chapter 987 Job Hunting
Renee's bad behavior towards her was always known to Rilla. In college, Rilla even stood up for her several times, but it didn't help much.
"It's okay, I've already moved out of my house. To be honest, it's a bit embarrassing, but I came to you today to ask if you could do me a favor."
Christina felt genuinely embarrassed. She usually didn't reach out to Rilla unless she needed something, and it made her feel awkward. But she had no choice; she didn't have much freedom when she was with the Russell family.
Rilla linked arms with her and confidently walked into the restaurant. "There's nothing to be embarrassed about! Just tell me what you need, if I can help, I definitely will!"
After they sat down in the restaurant, Christina handed the menu to Rilla. "Rilla, see what you want to eat. It's my treat today."
Rilla didn't stand on ceremony and ordered a few dishes she liked.
"Christina, you haven't told me yet; what do you need help with?"
Christina bit her lip lightly and hesitated before speaking. "Well, I wanted to ask if you know of any job opportunities. I need money right now, so I'm urgently looking for a job."
"Looking for a job, huh?" Rilla frowned and thought for a moment, then suddenly remembered something. "Actually, I can help with that! There's an advertising company that works with our unit, and they're hiring. With your qualifications, you should have no problem getting the job."
Christina's eyes lit up immediately. "Really? Do you think it's possible?"
"Of course! Christina, you're very capable. Be confident!" Rilla took out her phone and sent a picture to Christina. "There, I sent you the job information. Submit your resume, and I'll talk to the person in charge. If they think you're a good fit, they'll definitely contact you!"
Christina looked at the job information. She met all the requirements, and there was no need for work experience, so she had a good chance!
"Rilla, you're my lucky charm. Once I land the job, I'll treat you to a fancy dinner!"
"Deal! Christina, I'll be looking forward to that meal. I know you'll get hired and do great at the company. Just don't forget about me when you're rich and famous!"
"Never!" Christina said with a smile.
They chatted and laughed, finished their meal, and then walked together to the subway station before parting ways to head home.
When Christina got home, she opened her computer and sent her resume to the email address she had just received.
After sending her resume, Christina was still anxious, afraid of being disappointed.
Although she met all the requirements, her resume wasn't outstanding. In such a big company, she wasn't the only one applying. If they had better candidates, she might not even get an interview!
God bless, please let her get this job. She would work hard and do her best!
Only by successfully finding a job could she slowly pay off the three million dollars she owed and save some money. That way, she would have some security after leaving the Mitchell family.
Because she hadn't received a response, Christina was restless all evening.
That night, Bernard didn't come home again. Christina just muttered a bit and didn't think much of it. Whether he came back or not, it was his problem in front of his grandparents!
The next day, Christina opened her computer without much hope and saw a reply from the company!
Christina's resume had passed, and she got an interview opportunity.
Seeing the notification in the email, Christina was really happy. Although it was just an interview opportunity, at least it wasn't like before when she got no response at all!
Having finally gotten an opportunity, Christina was determined to prepare well, both inside and out. So she took out her limited savings and decided to go shopping at a nearby mall.
The clothes Hellen had prepared for her were indeed very expensive, but they were too extravagant and not suitable for an interview.
She decided to act immediately and told Hellen before heading out.
She wandered around the mall alone and found a nice professional outfit. The clothes suited her very well, but they were quite expensive. She hesitated, unsure if she should spend so much money.
"Oh, isn't this my sister Christina?"
Christina heard a familiar and unpleasant voice and instinctively frowned. When she turned around, she saw Cheryl.
Cheryl's friends were standing beside her.
Since giving them three million dollars, the Russell family hadn't bothered her. She thought she wouldn't have to see them again in this lifetime!
What an unfortunate encounter, running into them here!
Looking at the shopping bags Cheryl was holding and the more expensive clothes she was wearing, it seemed that the three million dollars had indeed made their lives more luxurious!
Christina wasn't interested in the Russell family's life and didn't want to talk to Cheryl. She went back into the fitting room, took off the clothes, and planned to leave quickly to avoid further annoyance.
Unfortunately, she hadn't taken a few steps when Cheryl blocked her way again. "I knew it, you can't afford the clothes here, can you? Just trying them on for fun! You only deserve to wear my hand-me-downs!"
Christina had originally planned to buy the outfit, so she ignored Cheryl's words, bypassed her, and said to the store clerk, "Hello, please pack the outfit I tried on. I'll pay with my card."
"Sure, please wait a moment."
Christina handed her bank card to the clerk and bought the clothes, then prepared to leave.
Cheryl wasn't about to let her go and stepped in front of her again. "Christina, you're really embracing the role of a homewrecker, aren't you? Spending another woman's husband's money without a second thought!"
Hearing Cheryl's words, her friends started looking at Christina with disdain and mocking laughter.
Christina tried to ignore her, but Cheryl only became more aggressive!
She raised her eyes and coldly stared at Cheryl. "Miss, do we know each other that well? If you keep spreading lies about me, I'll sue you for defamation!"
"What kind of attitude is that? I'm your sister! Who do you think you're talking to?" Cheryl, annoyed, raised her hand to teach her a lesson.
Christina was prepared and intercepted Cheryl's hand, sneering. "You want to hit me? Let me tell you, I'm no longer the Christina from the Russell family. Since I gave you that money, I've cut ties with the Russell family, including you! You're not my sister anymore, and you have no right to judge or do anything to me, understand?"
With that, Christina didn't give Cheryl any time to react, released her hand, and walked away.
Cheryl stood there, stunned, not expecting Christina to become so fierce.
