Chapter 77 She's Young And Didn't Know Her Place

Alex returned to the coffee shop and sat for a while.

Kenny was still talking endlessly about his new movie script, but he was just talking to himself the whole time. The four gentlemen at the table were chatting among themselves, and eventually, no one even glanced at him.

It seemed like he wouldn't be able to secure investments from them today.

Kenny checked the time helplessly. It was getting late, and further discussion might annoy the four of them. He had to tactfully get up, find a noble reason, and bid farewell to them with Sherry, respectfully leaving.

With no more idle people in the coffee shop, Hilton joked, "Alex, where's your lady?"

Jonathan added, "Yeah, Alex. Where's Katherine?"

Katherine?

As her husband, Alex hadn't even called that girl by her nickname yet.

Alex raised an eyebrow at Jonathan, and then said, "Do you need her for something?"

Hilton, with great interest, said, "Nothing important; I'm just curious how she became an assistant to a small artist. Alex, it's not for me to judge, but she's already your wife, and you still let her work?"

Alex casually sipped his tea and then replied, "She likes to experience life. She just needs to do whatever she wants, and I won't interfere too much."

Hilton clicked his tongue and remarked, "Impressive! Alex, I never realized you were so considerate and tolerant."

Alex coldly glanced at him then retorted, "Get lost!"

On the side, Jonathan smiled and said, "Alex, I made a joke with Katherine just now, and she actually agreed to clink glasses with me. You wouldn't mind, would you?"

Alex stared at Jonathan for a few seconds, a smirk forming on his lips, and he said, "No, she's young and doesn't know her place, which is understandable."

Jonathan's smile froze.

Alex implied that he was like a child and didn't know his place.

The atmosphere suddenly turned awkward, and Hilton and Issac exchanged glances. Why was there a hint of tension between the two men next to them?

They had been friends since childhood, and it wouldn't be good to create a rift over a woman.

Hilton casually changed the subject and chimed in, "Jonathan, today is the day you officially inherit the Mostow Group. This banquet is almost over. Don't you plan to take us out for a drink?"

Jonathan grinned and replied, "Sure, you guys pick the place. I'll arrange it."

Hilton playfully nudged Alex's arm and requested, "Alex, where do you want to go?"

Alex looked indifferent. He took another sip of his tea and said, "You guys go ahead. I have things to do."

Hilton furrowed his brow and rebutted, "Alex, Jonathan just returned from abroad not long ago. It's rare for us to get together. Don't spoil the fun!"

"I really have something to attend to. I'll treat you another day. I won't join you today," Alex explained.

With that, he gently placed down his coffee cup held between his long fingers, picked up his suit jacket from the nearby hanger, draped it over his arm elegantly, turned around gracefully, waved to them with his back turned, and left.

Hilton sighed helplessly, commenting, "He just leaves like that. Alex, this guy got married and forgot about his friends."

Jonathan watched Alex walk away and smiled helplessly, "It's okay. Alex must really have something important to do."

Issac stood up and then advised, "Let's go; I have some good wine stored at the Breaking Dawn Bar. It's on me tonight."

Jonathan said, "Issac, I said I'll arrange it."

Hilton laughed, "It doesn't matter who arranges it. I'm just here for the free drinks."

In the car, "I asked you to arrange a job for her, and this is how you arranged it?" Alex said coldly.

Alex's voice was steady, but it carried a hint of danger.

Leander felt a chill run down his spine, innocently turning his head to explain, "Mr. Melville, this afternoon, I had urgent company matters to attend to. So I couldn't accompany Ms. Galatea to our subsidiary. I just called Mr. Bristow from the subsidiary, and he said Ms. Galatea insisted on being an artist's assistant herself."

Alex furrowed his brows, remained silent, and his face revealed no emotion.

Leander added cautiously, "I will arrange a new job for Ms. Galatea tomorrow."

Alex, unchanged in expression, said, "Don't bother with her anymore. Since it's her choice, let her be."

"Understood," he answered.

"Tomorrow, go check if there are three Lotus paintings in Jonathan's gallery and buy them. She wants them," Alex ordered.

Leander nodded and noted, "Got it."

"By the way, Mr. Melville, Scarlett's treatment period is almost over. She's expected to return home next month," Leander added.

Alex's eyes darkened momentarily. He closed his eyes, pinched the bridge of his nose, and said, "I see."

Alex didn't reprimand Leander, which relieved Leander.

After waiting for a while and confirming that Mr. Melville had no other instructions, Leander dared to turn his head back to look ahead. To his surprise, he made a discovery.

"Mr. Melville, look, isn't that Ms. Galatea?" Leander yelled out.

Alex raised his eyes and looked out the car window. It was Katherine.

She was sitting alone, having a late-night snack.

It was so late, and she was just having dinner now.

Leander cleverly signaled the driver to pull over. He had some idea of what happened and informed Mr. Melville, "Mr. Melville, that artist named Sherry is notoriously difficult to serve. Ms. Galatea is her assistant. She might have been through a lot today; she probably didn't even have time to eat."

Alex furrowed his brow and coldly ordered, "Go and bring her here."

"Yes." Leander nodded, opened the door, and got out of the car.

Leander communicated with her for a while but soon returned alone. He bowed at the car window and reported, "Mr. Melville, Ms. Galatea said she hasn't finished eating yet and asked you to go back first, not to worry about her."

Alex's expression became serious, and his jaw tensed. After a moment of silence, he got out of the car.

Katherine was drinking orange soda when she saw Alex, the imposing figure, walking towards her. Finally, the man stood in front of her table, looking down at her.

If it weren't for his striking looks, Alex would have seemed like a debt collector right now.

Katherine raised her hand and called out, "Sir, bring me another twenty skewers of barbecue!"

"I don't want to eat," Alex said coldly.

Katherine looked up in surprise, puzzled, and laughed, "Alex, you're overthinking it. I'm ordering for myself; I'm not done eating yet."

Alex remained silent.

Alex's presence was so strong that even standing there without saying a word made the atmosphere around the barbecue stall somewhat awkward.

Everyone eating late-night snacks couldn't help but cast glances of observation and admiration towards him..

It was already something peculiar that such a man with dignified temperament and dressed in a designer suit, clearly not an ordinary man, appeared at such a casual barbecue stall.

Katherine's appetite was affected, and she said with some disdain, "Alex if you're not eating, go back to your car first. Otherwise, please sit down and eat with me. Don't stand here like a statue, affecting everyone's appetite."

Alex's expression was extremely gloomy.

Leander, watching Katherine with admiration, witnessed someone daring to speak to Mr. Melville like this for the first time in the over ten years he had been with him.
