Chapter 217 Miss Mitchell's Guilt Trip
Katherine opened the door and saw Scarlett and Sunny standing at the entrance, one behind the other.
She thought, 'The Mitchell family is really annoying.'
She wasn't in the mood to deal with these two troublemakers right now. She raised an indifferent eyebrow and asked, "What's up?"
Scarlett first looked at Katherine, then glanced inside the room behind her before softly saying, "Katherine, I'm sorry. I've thought it over carefully. I must have misunderstood you in the yard. I thought you wanted me to kneel and apologize, so I did. And you certainly didn't mean to kick me. Maybe you were just about to take a step and accidentally touched me. Katherine, I'm really sorry. It's my fault that Bernard misunderstood you as a bad person and pushed you into the water. I apologize. Will you forgive me?"
Katherine lazily squinted her eyes, watching Scarlett's pitiful performance. She curled her lips indifferently. "Miss Mitchell, just a reminder, Alex isn't in this room right now, so you don't need to put on this act!"
Scarlett was stunned, not quite believing it. She glanced into the room again. Alex wasn't there?
Her current attitude was indeed a performance for Alex.
Without Alex, she had no reason to apologize to Katherine!
Because she and Katherine had essentially burned bridges, and apologizing was meaningless.
However, with Sunny by her side, she couldn't show her true attitude towards Katherine. So she continued to act weak, saying, "Katherine, don't think of me as so complicated. I'm sincerely here to apologize. I'm sorry, please forgive me!"
Katherine remained indifferent. Knowing Scarlett's true nature, she wasn't moved at all.
Scarlett's current attitude seemed sincere and weak, but it was clearly a form of guilt-tripping.
It would make people think that Ms. Mitchell had apologized sincerely, yet Katherine was still unforgiving, making her seem aggressive and relentless.
So, most people would choose to forgive in such a situation to avoid being criticized.
Unfortunately, Scarlett had miscalculated!
Katherine didn't care about anyone else's opinion, and she wouldn't forgive Scarlett just because of her pitiful act.
She smiled. "Miss Mitchell, save it! Don't waste your acting skills on me. I'm not a fan of drama, and I don't buy it!"
Scarlett looked hurt, with a pitiful expression of being wronged. "Katherine, I'm not acting. Why do you have to think of me that way? Do you really hate me that much?"
Hate? Not really, but definitely annoyed!
Katherine yawned, too lazy to deal with Scarlett.
If she responded, it would give Scarlett an opening to continue her act , and she didn't have the time for that!
Just as Katherine was about to close the door, Sunny suddenly stepped forward with a plate of chicken wings, his youthful and handsome face tense. He questioned, "Katherine, what happened in the yard? Bernard said you made Scarlett kneel and even kicked her. What's going on?"
After Scarlett, now it was Sunny's turn? Katherine frowned, feeling that the Mitchell family was really endless and annoying!
She covered her face and yawned, impatiently saying, "Scarlett suddenly knelt to me, then suddenly fell. That's it, nothing more!"
Katherine kept it brief, not wanting to waste words. She felt that saying more wouldn't help.
Those who believed her would believe her no matter what, and those who didn't wouldn't change their minds regardless of what she said!
"I see!" Sunny nodded without any doubt, then turned to Scarlett and said, "Scarlett, I got it! You must have misunderstood Katherine and knelt, then didn't kneel properly and fell. Bernard saw that and thought Katherine forced you and even kicked you!"
Scarlett remained silent.
Was this kid, who was siding with an outsider, really Sunny?
Katherine raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised by Sunny's rare impartiality today.
Scarlett forced a couple of laughs, agreeing with Sunny's conclusion. "Maybe. I might have been a bit dizzy from the night breeze and had an illusion."
Scarlett usually presented herself as kind and gentle in front of others, so even if she was unhappy with Sunny's explanation, she couldn't directly argue against it.
After clarifying what happened in the yard, Sunny eagerly handed the plate of chicken wings he was holding to Katherine, saying proudly, "Katherine, I'll give you a chance to try my special chicken wings! They might be a bit cold now, but I bet you've never had such delicious wings in your life!"
Katherine was hungry, and seeing the chicken wings offered, she didn't hesitate. She reached out, took one, and tried it. "Not bad; it tastes good!"
Sunny proudly raised his chin. "See? I wasn't bragging!"
Katherine gave him a thumbs up, praising him. "Mr. Mitchell's grilling skills are indeed impressive, very good!"
Sunny blushed at her praise and, to hide his embarrassment, boasted a few more times.
Seeing Katherine and Sunny chatting and eating, a dark glint flashed in Scarlett's eyes. She felt a sense of crisis as if her territory and her people were being invaded and captured by an outsider.
She was Sunny's real sister, so why did she feel like a stranger standing here now?!
Thinking about it, Scarlett smiled and moved closer, saying, "Sunny, you made these chicken wings yourself. Why didn't you let me try them?"
As she spoke, she reached out to take a wing, unwilling to be outdone by Katherine.
However, Sunny pulled the plate away, not letting her take any.
Scarlett's face immediately turned ugly, frozen.
Sunny looked worried and said, "Scarlett, these wings are a bit cold. You can't eat them! Remember? If you eat cold food, your stomach will get upset!"
Scarlett was stunned for a moment, then accepted it, nodding appreciatively and smiling. "I see. Sunny, you're always thinking about my health! But you know, you should also care about others. It's not good for Katherine to eat cold food either!"
Did Katherine hear that? Sunny only gave her cold food!
Sunny realized that his previous words sounded unfair, so he quickly explained to Katherine, "Katherine, don't misunderstand! My sister Scarlett has been weak and sickly since childhood, and cold food often upsets her stomach. It's different for us; we can eat it without any issues!"
To prove he wasn't intentionally treating them differently, Sunny also picked up a cold wing and started eating.
Katherine didn't care about such trivial matters.
Even if Sunny did mean it that way, she didn't mind. Scarlett was his sister, after all. It was normal for him to treat them differently.
Katherine said, "If Scarlett can't eat them, does that mean I can have all these wings?"
Seeing Katherine enjoy his grilled wings so much, Sunny smiled like a praised child. "Sure! If you like them, they're all yours!"
So, Katherine took the plate of wings without hesitation. "Thanks! I'll keep the wings, and you two can leave now!"
Sunny was a bit reluctant.
He didn't want to leave. For some reason, he really enjoyed hanging out with Katherine now. He found her very kind and interesting.
As he was thinking of an excuse to stay, Sunny suddenly noticed something odd and asked, "Katherine, why are you wearing such a big bath towel around your neck?"
