Chapter 994 You Should Go

Bernard didn't want to pursue the matter any further, so he responded lightly and shifted his gaze to the wound on her arm. "What happened to your hand?"

"I accidentally scraped it." Christina had been feeling quite chaotic and hadn't noticed she was injured. It was only when Bernard grabbed her that she felt the pain.

She had scratched Cheryl's face, and Cheryl didn't hold back either, leaving several deep scratches on her arm.

Bernard frowned, "An accidental cut can look like this? Tell the truth!"

Christina sighed helplessly and told Bernard everything that had happened today. "It was Cheryl, my half-sister. She slandered my character, messed up my interview, and even hit me. I couldn't take it and fought back."

Bernard looked at her, unable to describe his feelings. How had Christina grown up? What had she been through?

"Why didn't you tell your family? You are now Mrs. Mitchell of the Mitchell family. If you told them, they wouldn't dare to touch you."

Listening to Bernard's question, Christina remained silent.

Indeed, the name of the Mitchell family could make the Russell family not dare to provoke her.

But it would bring more trouble. The Russell family was greedy, and knowing her connection to the Mitchell family, they would want to use her to curry favor with the Mitchell family.

She wasn't truly Bernard's wife and didn't want to bring trouble to the Mitchell family.

"You can't imagine the shamelessness of them. They would do anything for profit. Even three million dollars couldn't make them leave me alone. I'm afraid if they find out, they will come to the Mitchell family for benefits, so forget it!"

Christina turned her head and spread her hands. "I can only use the identity of Mrs. Mitchell of the Mitchell family for a year. After that, I will be nothing, so why tell them!"

Bernard squinted at her, a faint, ambiguous smile on his lips. "You are quite clear-headed now! At a critical moment, you know to ask me for help!"

That faint smile made Christina freeze for a moment. She thought he was so cold that he wouldn't smile. Unexpectedly, Bernard's smile was quite good-looking.

Christina stared at him for a while, then suddenly realized it wasn't polite to do so and quickly looked away. "I'm afraid the Rojas Group will hold me responsible and embarrass the Mitchell family. I'm sorry, I will be more careful in the future and not cause you any trouble!"

Bernard stared at her for a while. "In the future, if you encounter such things, you can directly clarify your relationship with me."

Bernard's words seemed to allow Christina to use the Mitchell family to protect herself in the future.

This was a good thing for anyone. With the Mitchell family as a backing, she wouldn't have to fear anything.

However, Christina just glanced at him and didn't respond.

She wouldn't use the Mitchell family to protect herself. This identity had only a one-year shelf life, and a year would pass quickly.

To live independently in the future, she had to learn to grow and stand on her own.

"If you had known from the beginning that the president of the Rojas Group was Ruben, would you still have sent me a message?" Bernard asked.

Christina pursed her lips, hesitating for a while. "Probably not. At least Ruben wouldn't make things difficult for me, and you wouldn't have to make this trip."

Hearing her answer, Bernard's expression was unclear, and he silently started the car.

Originally, Christina thought Bernard was taking her back to the Mitchell family. It wasn't until he parked the car in the hospital parking lot that she realized. "Why did you bring me to the hospital?"

Bernard glanced at her. "What do you think? Get your hand treated before going back!"

Christina thought he was making a big deal out of it and waved her hand repeatedly. "No need, I just got scratched. It's not a big deal. I can disinfect it with iodine at home!"

Although Cheryl had been ruthless, it was still a human scratch. No matter how deep the wound was, it was limited. There was no need to go to the hospital specifically.

To exaggerate a bit, if the hospital were farther away, the wound would have healed by the time they got there!

"Get it treated, or Grandma will see it when we get back." Bernard got out of the car, walked to the passenger side, and opened the door for her. "Get out."

Christina looked at him in frustration. Fine, he had a point. Instead of arguing with him, it was better to go to the hospital quickly and get it over with.

"Alright." Christina compromised and obediently got out of the car.

As she got out, she didn't step firmly and fell forward.

Fortunately, Bernard reached out and held her shoulder, preventing her from falling!

After steadying herself, Christina looked up, and their eyes met, only a finger's width apart.

Suddenly, her heart started beating faster.

She quickly stood firm, stepped back a bit to distance herself from Bernard, and awkwardly said, "Thank you."

"Stay focused!" Bernard looked at his now empty hand, his expression deep.

Following Bernard, Christina's mind kept flashing back to Bernard's face, which had been so close just now.

Being so close, she could see clearly that his skin was flawless, and his eyelashes were long and thick.

Christina patted her chest, forcing her heartbeat to return to normal.

If it kept beating like this, she felt Bernard, walking beside her, would hear it.

"What's wrong? Is your heart uncomfortable?"

"No."

Christina got out of the car and, accompanied by Bernard, entered the hospital clinic.

A nurse disinfected her wound, applied medicine, and did a simple bandage.

"All done." After the wound was treated, Christina walked out of the clinic and spoke to Bernard, who was waiting at the door.

He was standing in the hallway, hands in his pockets, quietly waiting.

Seeing her come out, he asked in a deep voice, "Does it still hurt?"

"It doesn't hurt anymore. It didn't hurt much to begin with. Thank you for your concern."

This kind of wound was nothing to Christina. She had endured much worse injuries before, and no one had ever asked if she was in pain. But Bernard's concern made her realize that someone cared, and that wasn't something she was used to.

Bernard moved his thin lips, intending to say something more, but his phone rang.

His words were interrupted, and Bernard turned to answer the call. "Hello."

"What's up? Okay, I'll be there soon!"

Although Bernard didn't mention the name of the person on the other end, Christina could still hear the voice faintly.

It was Virginia.

Only when talking to Virginia did Bernard's tone lose its coldness.

"I have something to do and need to go!" Hanging up the phone, Bernard turned to inform Christina.

Christina had expected this and wasn't surprised. She asked, "Was it Ms. Pearl? What's wrong with her?"

"She needs something from me, so I have to go," Bernard answered naturally, without much explanation.

Christina nodded. "Oh, then you should go. I'll take a cab back later."
