Chapter 70 Moonlight Manor Built for Her
Katherine couldn't help but think of Alex's attitude towards her. Alex had made it clear that for these three months, he could give her everything except love.
It was evident that Alex was only focused on Sunny's sister.
Katherine's eyes darkened slightly as she chuckled. "Thank you for reminding me. But I'm not into making friends with kids."
With that said, she casually walked away.
His friendship request was ruthlessly rejected. Sunny wore an expression of discontent at being ignored, and followed Katherine defiantly.
Sunny called out, "Katherine, how can you call me a kid? I'm not a kid!"
Ignoring the persistent Sunny, Katherine let him tag along as she leisurely strolled. Katherine was searching for Sherry in the banquet hall.
After a thorough search, she couldn't find Sherry anywhere. She noticed a wicker swing chair by the French windows.
She walked over and sat down for a moment.
The swing chair faced the French windows, offering a view of the most beautiful scenery in Moonlight Manor.
Under the moonlight, the garden was filled with roses and a beautiful fountain.
When she looked up, the full moon in the sky seemed like it could descend upon the garden of flowers at any moment. This place wasn't just about luxury and sophistication built with money; it also exuded a deep sense of taste and romance, which explained why the nobles of Janetrick were willing to host weddings and other important events here.
Katherine never liked attending events, but she found herself strangely drawn to this place, feeling an indescribable sentiment.
Sunny yelled out, "Katherine! I'm talking to you! Can't you hear me?"
Sunny was still beside her, rambling on that making friends with him was giving her face, and he insisted that she must make friends with him, or else it would be disrespectful to him, and so on.
Katherine dismissed Sunny's words as nonsense, gazing up at the round moon in the sky. Suddenly, she remembered something and asked, "Sunny, you mentioned that Moonlight Manor holds special significance for your family. What 's that?"
Although the friendship request hadn't been accepted yet, Sunny, acting on his own accord, had already unilaterally and arrogantly considered Katherine as his friend.
Therefore, Sunny didn't hesitate to answer her question.
Sunny explained briskly, "This is the estate my father built for Laura. Laura loved festivities, and since no one lives here regularly, it's too quiet and desolate. So, my father occasionally allows events to be held here to keep it lively. Moonlight is a name associated with Laura."
Katherine lazily squinted her eyes, and then said, "Laura, such a lovely name. Is Laura Alex's first love?"
Sunny replied, "No! I have two sisters, and the one related to Alex is my second sister, Scarlett. My eldest sister is Laura, but unfortunately, Laura is no longer with us. Moonlight Manor was built in her memory."
Katherine raised an eyebrow and asked, "Laura is no longer with you? Did she pass away?"
Sunny shook his head, looking somewhat sad, and explained, "I don't know. I've never met Laura. I've heard from family members that she went missing when she was very young, so she... might no longer be in this world."
Touching upon his sorrowful past, Katherine furrowed her brows lightly and said, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked."
Sunny's emotions came and went quickly. The desolation on his face vanished in an instant, replaced by a righteous demeanor. "It's okay. After all, I consider you my friend."
Katherine fell silent. She hadn't agreed to be his friend yet.
At that moment, the Mitchell Family's servant, Furry, hurried over with a relieved expression and called out, "Mr. Mitchell, there you are! Finally found you!"
Sunny impatiently turned to Furry and snapped, "What's up?"
Furry was about to speak but noticed the injury on Sunny's face. He hesitated and then exclaimed in fear, "Mr. Mitchell, what happened to your face? How did you get injured?"
Sunny nonchalantly wiped the corner of his mouth where the injury was and then claimed, "It's nothing. Just a little bump. Hurry up and tell me why you're looking for me."
Furry, looking worried, said, "Um... Ms. Mitchell asked me to bring you home to do your homework. She said exams are coming up, and if you don't study properly, Ms. Mitchell will have your father send you to a military camp for discipline."
Sunny tensed his face and fell silent.
Katherine smirked and then remarked, "You better hurry home to do your homework, or Ms. Mitchell might spank you."
Losing face in front of his new friend, Sunny blushed, retorting, "Hmph, stop teasing me. I'm not a kid anymore, and my mom doesn't spank me anymore."
Furry glanced at Katherine, wondering why Mr. Mitchell who usually disliked 'Mrs. Melville' was now hanging out with her. Also, Mrs. Melville looked particularly sharp today.
But Furry didn't have time to dwell on it. Mr. Mitchell was injured, and even if they didn't go to the hospital, they needed to see the family doctor quickly. If something happened to Sunny, Mr. Mitchell, Mrs. Mitchell, and even Bernard wouldn't let him off the hook.
Furry quickly pulled Sunny to leave and begged, "Sunny, come with me. If you don't go back soon, Mrs. Mitchell might not spank you, but Mr. Mitchell surely will."
Katherine chuckled.
Sunny, unable to bear the embarrassment, kicked Furry and reprimanded, "What the hell you are talking about! When have I ever been spanked?"
Furry, feeling wronged, said, "Oh, my bad. You've never been spanked."
Sunny was annoyed and snapped, "Stop pulling me! I can walk by myself!"
Watching Sunny being reluctantly led away by Furry, Katherine felt a bit amused.
"Katherine!" Sherry's sharp voice suddenly rang out.
Katherine turned to see Sherry approaching aggressively with a demeanor of a debt collector.
"Katherine, so you're here! I've been looking for you everywhere, and here you are, swinging on the swing all by yourself!" Sherry scolded.
Katherine remained composed and explained, "I looked for you too, but I couldn't find you, and I got tired, so I sat here to rest."
Sherry glared at her disapprovingly and then commanded, "Well, get up now."
Katherine complied and stood up.
Sherry sat arrogantly on the swing chair, commanding, "Listen, Kenny is about to introduce me to a big shot, and you need to be there to assist me."
Kenny? Katherine raised an eyebrow. Wasn't Kenny the middle-aged man she had just been chatting with?
Sherry's Kenny was the highly sophisticated director Kenny Reid in the film industry. Kenny was attending the event today to attract investments for his new movie.
Kenny arranged Sherry's invitation. He mentioned that he would introduce Sherry to some influential figures in the investment world. If any of these figures liked her, she would get better resources.
Feeling a bit nervous about meeting important people, Sherry needed to bring an assistant along to show her status.
Since Katherine was dressed so plainly today, she wouldn't steal Sherry's spotlight by tagging along.
"Got it? Be attentive, not only to serve me but also to pour water for the big shots. They are all top figures in high society," she then ordered.
Katherine nodded and answered, "I understand. But tell me who we are meeting, so I can be mentally prepared."
Sherry said proudly, "The head of the first family, the Melville Manor's young master—Alex!"
