Chapter 375 What's Wrong with Bernard?
About fifteen minutes later, Bernard came out of the kitchen with a bowl of something hot and gently placed it in front of Katherine. "Give it a try"
Katherine looked at the steaming bowl in front of her, then picked up a spoon and stirred the thick oatmeal.
She looked up at Bernard. "Is this oatmeal?"
Bernard nodded. "Yes, you're pregnant now, so you can't eat anything too greasy. I remember you used to have oatmeal when..."
Hearing this, Katherine paused, frowned, and her dark eyes trembled as if she understood everything!
Seeing her frown, Bernard's throat tightened, and he stopped talking, afraid that saying more would affect her appetite. "It's nothing, just eat it while it's hot!"
Katherine snapped out of it. "Thank you."
She thoughtfully squinted her eyes, scooped a spoonful of oatmeal, blew on it to cool it down, and put it in her mouth.
Her taste buds were amazed!
The flavor was unexpectedly to her liking, even the sweetness was just right!
But in her memory, she had never eaten this kind of thing...
Bernard had already sat back in his seat across from her, looking at the girl opposite him with gentle eyes. His handsome eyes suppressed the stormy waves of a long-awaited reunion. In a soft, cautious voice, he asked, "How does it taste?"
Katherine nodded and was about to praise the taste...
"Bernard! What are you doing here?"
Scarlett's voice came from upstairs, suddenly interrupting Katherine before she could speak.
Scarlett quickly came downstairs and ran to the dining room, looking at Bernard with a face full of surprise.
Seeing Scarlett coming down from the Melville family's upstairs, Bernard's eyes also flashed with surprise, and he frowned sternly. "Scarlett, what are you doing here?"
Scarlett's eyes flickered with guilt at Bernard's question. "I... I came to see Fiona! What about you? Why are you at the Melville family?"
It was incredibly strange for Bernard to step into the Melville family's house today!
Fiona, who had followed, saw Mr. Mitchell from the Mitchell family personally visiting and confidently said, "Scarlett, isn't it obvious? Bernard must have come here specifically to pick you up!"
Scarlett thought about it and felt that Fiona was right. Bernard must have come to pick her up. What other reason would Bernard have to come to the Melville family?
Although she didn't know how Bernard knew she was at the Melville family, the fact that Bernard came to pick her up and even stepped into the Melville family's house must mean he was very worried about her!
Scarlett was very happy. She thought Bernard still held a grudge against her because of Charles's injury yesterday!
Now she could be at ease. No matter what happened, Bernard would still trust her, forgive her, and care for her the most!
After Scarlett and Fiona came over, Katherine didn't plan to speak anymore and continued eating her oatmeal as if no one else was around...
Seeing Katherine eating something so deliciously, Fiona got angry and stood up to complain to Bernard:
"Bernard, you're just in time! Let me tell you, Scarlett was bullied just now!
It was this Katherine who poured a bowl of hot soup from her takeout directly on Scarlett's hair, dirtying her hair and clothes, and even scalding her face!
Scarlett just cleaned up in my room and changed into clean clothes!"
With Fiona speaking up for her, Scarlett put on a magnanimous act, her voice carrying a hint of sobbing, "Bernard, I'm fine..."
After hearing Fiona's complaint, Bernard frowned deeply, looked at Katherine with displeasure, and asked:
"Didn't the Melville family prepare breakfast for you? Why did you order takeout?"
Scarlett and Fiona were originally expecting Bernard to angrily question Katherine's guilt, but instead, they heard Bernard ask such an irrelevant question. Both of them were stunned, thinking Bernard seemed to have missed the point?
Katherine was enjoying her meal, smacked her lips, and said, "They did prepare breakfast for me, but it was eaten by a guest. So I ordered takeout for myself, but the takeout was accidentally spilled with milk by a guest and couldn't be eaten. So in the end, I could only eat a sandwich!"
Bernard's frown deepened. Before he arrived, the only guest at the Melville family was clearly Scarlett!
So the breakfast Katherine mentioned was ruined because of Scarlett?!
Seeing the anger rising in Bernard's eyes, Scarlett was secretly delighted. Bernard was finally angry at Katherine!
She naturally assumed that in Bernard's eyes, she was always the one in the right and favored. So she added fuel to the fire, "Bernard, I didn't mean to eat Katherine's breakfast. I didn't know it was hers. I just had a bit because I have low blood sugar.
I also didn't mean to ruin Katherine's takeout. I was worried she might choke while eating, so I brought her some milk. But my low blood sugar made me lose my balance, and I spilled the milk on her takeout...
I apologized to Katherine at the time and promised to compensate her double the takeout price, but I didn't expect Katherine to be so angry and pour the takeout on my head!
But I can understand Katherine's feelings! Bernard, please don't blame Katherine because of me. It was my fault first..."
As she spoke, Scarlett's voice became more and more choked, almost crying...
Bernard, with a stern expression, coldly looked at her crying and snorted, "You know it was your fault first?"
Not receiving Bernard's usual unconditional support, Scarlett was genuinely stunned. She looked up in surprise, "…Bernard?"
With a serious face, Bernard reprimanded, "You know you have low blood sugar, so why didn't you rest at home? What are you doing at someone else's house early in the morning?"
Scarlett didn't understand why Bernard was acting this way. She was completely confused and took a while to recover, weakly explaining, "Bernard, I didn't know I would have low blood sugar before I came. It's probably because I forgot to have breakfast at home..."
Bernard didn't soften because of her explanation. "So, why didn't you stay home to take care of the child early in the morning and instead came to someone else's house to eat their breakfast?"
Scarlett's eyes flickered with guilt. "Bernard, I arranged for a nanny to take good care of Charles..."
"The child was seriously injured yesterday, almost losing his life, and as a mother, you don't seem to be worried at all? Is Charles your child or the nanny's child?"
"Bernard, I..."
