Chapter 186 A Man Must Have His Own Opinions

"Mr. Melville." Billy stepped forward and bowed. "Mr. Melville, Mr. Mitchell instructed me to return your car and convey his gratitude. Thank you for generously lending it to him yesterday; otherwise, he and Miss would have had to wait over two hours on Whispering Willow Bridge."

Alex's expression was indifferent. "He wants to thank me? Why didn't he come himself?"

Billy, having been with Bernard in the business world for many years, was adept at handling situations, but even he felt pressured by someone as imposing as Alex.

Billy answered, "I'm sorry. He is on a business trip today. Otherwise, he would have come personally to thank you, Mr. Melville."

Alex continued eating his bacon with a knife and fork, unfazed by anyone around him.

Billy's polite words might work with others, but not with Alex.

It was clear whether Bernard was sincere or not.

Receiving no response, Billy felt a bit awkward and turned to Sunny behind him. "Sunny, explain everything to Mr. Melville properly, apologize sincerely, and admit your mistake."

"Oh..." Sunny, usually full of energy, had his head down all day. His suppressed emotions were about to burst. He took a few steps forward, head hanging even lower, unable to face anyone.

Sunny said, "Alex, I'm sorry, it was me."

At this point, Sunny felt so wronged he could almost spit blood!

But thinking about the future of Scarlett and Alex, he could only bite back his tears and continue.

"It was me! I spread the online slander against Katherine to help Sophie vent her anger! I stole the original video from that blogger's phone, edited it out of context, and posted it online, reversing the truth and causing Katherine to be vilified online. I did it all alone!"

Leander looked at Sunny in surprise, not expecting Sunny to be behind it.

To him, Mr. Mitchell, although mischievous, didn't seem to have a bad character, not to the extent of doing something so malicious.

However, thinking back, Sunny had indeed caused trouble for Katherine several times before, so his confession wasn't entirely unexpected and had some precedent.

After Sunny finished his confession, he received no reaction from Alex. Billy, unsure of the situation, thought for a moment and said, "Mr. Melville, Sunny acted impulsively and caused you and your wife some trouble. Bernard was very angry when he found out the truth and severely reprimanded Sunny. He specifically asked me to bring him to you, leaving his punishment up to you, Mr. Melville."

Alex put the bacon he had cut into his mouth, chewed calmly, swallowed, then put down his knife and fork. He took a sip of water, and dabbed his mouth with a napkin.

Some people, without a flicker of emotion, could still exert suffocating pressure.

At the spacious dining room of the vast Melville Manor, the atmosphere was solemn.

Alex raised an eyebrow and glanced at Sunny, finally speaking in a calm tone, "Do you know what she did at Whispering Ripple that day?"

Sunny nodded and said, "I-I know."

Alex squinted and asked, "If you know, then say it."

Sunny, very nervous, replied honestly, "Katherine helped my grandfather at Whispering Ripple that day. My grandfather recently lost his sight and couldn't see anything. If it weren't for her help that day, he would have been injured by that blogger."

Alex's face darkened. "Is this how you repay her? The Mitchells have always been this way – teaching you to be so ungrateful!"

Sunny felt both wronged and ashamed, but he couldn't explain and had to bear it all alone, "No, Bernard and Scarlett always taught me to be grateful. It's my lack of gratitude that led me to slander Katherine! I deserve to be punished! Alex, I did this alone, and it has nothing to do with the Mitchell family. Please don't blame anyone else in my family; punish me alone!"

Alex snorted coldly, his face hard as iron, "You Mitchells did something truly awful, and now you have the audacity to tell me how to handle it? My wife, a good person, was unjustly attacked. You and your family will all face the consequences."

"Alex!" Suddenly, Scarlett ran in with tears, standing protectively by Sunny's side. Her innocent face was full of tears. "Sunny is young and made a foolish mistake. It pains me, too! But... I'm his sister, I can't abandon him! Alex, please, for my sake, forgive him this time, okay?"

Seeing Scarlett's tear-streaked face, Alex's brows furrowed.

Scarlett noticed his hesitation and quickly pulled Sunny's arm, signaling him. "Sunny, kneel and apologize to Alex! He isn't heartless; if you sincerely repent, he will forgive you!"

Sunny, though reluctant, obediently knelt.

"Stand up!" Sunny's knees hadn't even touched the ground when a girl's voice from upstairs suddenly stopped him.

It was Katherine's voice.

Everyone looked up to see Katherine lazily yawning as she came downstairs.

Alex's dark eyes brightened a bit. Katherine had woken up?

Katherine came downstairs, giving Sunny a disdainful look. "A man should have his mind. She tells you to kneel, and you kneel?"

Sunny stood up straight, feeling ashamed as he looked at Katherine. "Because I wronged you."

Katherine squinted at him and then questioned, "Are you sure it was you?"

Sunny was stunned, looking at her in surprise. Did she think it wasn't him?

Seeing this, Scarlett felt the situation was bad. She quickly moved forward, protectively placing her brother behind her, looking pitifully at Katherine, pleading, "Katherine, if you have any grievances, take them out on me! Sunny is young and foolish; please forgive him this time. Bernard and I will educate him properly at home!"

Katherine lazily raised an eyebrow and asked, "Hmm? Did I mishear upstairs? Didn't this gentleman just say he'd leave Sunny to Ms. Melville to handle? Miss Mitchell, why are you pleading now? Does the Mitchell family have a backbone or not? Why can't you keep your words? Do you have any principles?"

Scarlett's face went rigid, her lips pressed together, tears welling in her eyes. "Katherine, no matter what, he's my brother. I beg you."

Katherine immediately made a STOP gesture with her hands. "Stop! Miss Mitchell, your precious tears mean nothing to me. Save them for someone who cares!"

She even deliberately glanced at the man sitting at the head of the table, implying something.

Alex remained silent.
