Chapter 477 Kicked Out
The car stopped at Melville Manor's entrance, and Alex parked without driving in.
Katherine, exhausted, wanted to head inside, wash up, and sleep. Seeing him stop, she asked, "Why not drive in?"
Alex nodded toward a nearby car. "That's Bernard's car. He's here to see you."
Katherine looked and saw Bernard's car. He got out and stared at them.
Alex turned to Katherine. "Want to see him? If not, I'll drive in."
If Bernard wasn't her brother, Alex wouldn't have bothered.
Katherine squinted at Bernard. "Since he's here, I'll see what he wants."
"Okay. I'll wait here," Alex said, gently rubbing her head.
Katherine got out and walked toward Bernard.
Bernard's eyes brightened when he saw her. "Katherine."
Katherine's expression was cold. "Mr. Mitchell, what do you want?"
Bernard nodded. "It's chilly. Let's talk in the car."
Katherine nodded and walked to his car.
Bernard glanced at Alex and nodded in thanks.
At the car, Bernard opened the door for Katherine. She thanked him and got in.
Bernard got in on the other side.
As soon as the door closed, Katherine asked, "What do you want to say? Get to the point."
Bernard, used to her distant attitude, felt helpless.
"Katherine, what's with those trending topics?"
Katherine guessed this was why he came. "I don't know."
Bernard looked worried. "Is someone targeting you or the Melville family? You don't know?"
Katherine replied, "Someone's targeting me, affecting the Melville family. The topics appeared out of nowhere. Did you help take them down?"
Bernard wanted to, but someone beat him to it.
"It wasn't me. When I saw it, the topics were already gone. I think it was Alex."
Katherine glanced out the window at Alex's car, recalling when he was on his phone at the Harris family. He must've handled it then.
Bernard advised, "Katherine, the topics are down, but the impact remains. Be careful and stay in."
Katherine nodded. "Thanks for the concern, Mr. Mitchell. I know what to do. If there's nothing else, I'll go."
Bernard said, "Wait!"
Katherine, about to leave, sat back down. "Anything else?"
Bernard looked at her with a complicated expression. "Katherine, this trending topic is odd. Domestic media wouldn't report on the Melville family without proof. Foreign media are involved. It targets both you and the Melvilles. Be careful, okay?"
Katherine, feeling a bit annoyed by the repeated advice, nodded. "Alright, I understand. Thanks for your concern."
She then got out of the car. Alex drove over to pick her up, saving her a few steps.
Once Katherine was back in the car, Alex reversed a bit and drove into Melville Manor.
Bernard watched Katherine enter the manor with a complicated expression and sighed.
Billy, in the driver's seat, turned around. "Don't worry. Alex will protect Katherine well."
Bernard pinched his brow. "It's because it's Alex that I'm worried. The Melville family's connections are too complicated. Katherine being with him is already noticeable, and now with the trending topics, everyone knows. There won't be any peace ahead."
Billy stayed silent, knowing Alex's complicated background. He hoped it wouldn't bring danger to Katherine.
"Billy, have someone keep an eye on the Melville family entrance. If Katherine goes out, notify me immediately," Bernard instructed.
Billy hesitated. "Given the relationship between the Mitchell and Melville families, arranging people to watch at their doorstep rashly might cause new conflicts.."
Bernard frowned. "I can't worry about that now. Katherine's safety is the most important. Do as I say and try not to let them find out."
Billy nodded. "Yes, sir."
Then, Bernard's car slowly drove away.
Katherine followed Alex into the house, thinking Sandra and Jackie would be resting. But they were still in the living room, looking upset.
As soon as they stepped in, they heard Jackie angrily say, "I've never been so humiliated! Now, a wild girl has disgraced the entire Melville family!"
Sandra tried to calm him down. "Jackie, don't get so worked up. We don't know if those trending topics are true. I don't think Katherine is that kind of girl."
Jackie snorted. "You sure? How long have you known her? It's already chaos after one day. Who knows what's next? Alex hasn't married her. Let her go. We should say she's not part of the Melville family!"
"That's not right!" Sandra and Fiona said in unison, then looked at each other.
Fiona continued, "Grandpa, the Melville family can't do such a heartless thing! Katherine is Alex's legally wedded wife. Kicking her out over some unverified news would make us a laughingstock!"
Sandra agreed. "That's right! Fiona is correct. We can't handle it this way! Besides, you've seen how close Alex and Katherine are now! Alex would never agree to let Katherine go!"
