Chapter 529 Paying the Price
Sunny wiped her tears and broke down, saying, "Mom, do you know that Scarlett has already confessed to everything she's done over the years and her true thoughts?
"All these years, I always thought Scarlett was the kindest girl in the world, deserving of the best things in life! So I caused trouble for Katherine. But Scarlett has done so many bad things behind everyone's back, taking advantage of all the people who loved and trusted her! The current outcome is her own doing. She can't blame anyone else. I can't help her, and neither can you!
"Mom, I came here to ask you to follow Grandpa's arrangement and stay at the summer estate in the countryside for a while to reflect on yourself. Wait until Grandparents and Dad have calmed down before coming back. Stop thinking about how to save Scarlett. Scarlett should pay for what she's done!"
Alice couldn't bear Sunny being so unreliable and angrily pointed at him, cursing, "You ungrateful child! All these years of planning in the Mitchell family for you were wasted! You can't even show any progress in your studies, and you have no ambition at all! Both of you are children of the Mitchell family, yet why is it that Bernard can naturally inherit the Mitchell family business, but you can't? Are you willing to accept it just like that, Sunny? Are you stupid?"
Sunny frowned as he rebutted, "Mom, Bernard is the eldest son of the Mitchell family. He is Dad's first son from his original wife, and he excels in every aspect. It's only natural that the family has high hopes for him.
"But I have no interest in this. I don't want to inherit the so-called family business, nor do I want to compete with Bernard. And even if I did, I wouldn't win against him! So stop thinking about unrealistic things. I won't compete with Bernard for the inheritance!"
Alice was so angry that her eyes rolled back, and ridiculed him, "Useless! You're a useless waste! How did I give birth to such a worthless child? Think about it: I, Alice, was once the school beauty with countless suitors, but in your father's eyes, I could never compare to his unfaithful ex-wife, Claire! Now, even my son can't compare to Claire's son. Why?!"
Sunny looked at Alice with a mix of heartache and helplessness, sighing, "Mom, I brought the family's servants here. Please go to the summer estate and rest. With me taking care of things, the people there won't mistreat you."
Alice was stunned, never expecting her son to not help her but to also betray her, "You... ungrateful son! How can you betray your mother? You don't even have half of Scarlett's ambition. I only regret that Scarlett isn't a boy..."
Sunny didn't want to argue with the stubborn Alice anymore. He turned awayand instructed the servants he brought, "Take good care of my mom and send her to the summer estate!"
The servants nodded respectfully, "Yes, Mr. Mitchell."
Then, Sunny walked away. He didn't dare look back, fearing that seeing Alice's resentful eyes would make him waver.
Alice and Scarlett should be punished for their misdeeds. Just because they were his family doesn't mean he should blindly support them and condone their behavior.
Watching Sunny leave her behind, Alice shouted in despair and broke down, "Sunny! Come back! You can't leave your mother like this, you can't..."
She tried to rush out to catch up with her son, but the Mitchell family servants stopped her, saying, "Mrs. Mitchell, you can't escape this time. We can't face Vincent Mitchell and Edwin Mitchell if you do."
Alice, like a madwoman, pushed the servants away, "Get out of my way! How dare you try to control me!"
The servants, having been deceived once before, were no longer polite. Two of them stepped forward to restrain Alice while the others helped pack her things.
Alice had only stayed here for less than a day, so there wasn't much to pack. The servants quickly gathered her scattered belongings and prepared to leave.
Before leaving, the lead servant heard what sounded like crying coming from the bedroom and sent someone to check it out. "It's the child Ms. Mitchell adopted! He seems to be hurt and is curled up on the floor crying!"
The lead servant walked over and saw Charles curled up in a ball, shivering and crying weakly, looking very pitiful.
Alice, thinking of something, quickly pretended to be concerned, "Oh no! How did the child fall by himself? Check if he's hurt, and if he is, we need to take him to the hospital immediately!"
The lead servant was cautious because Mrs. Mitchell and Ms. Mitchell had previously used Charles as a means for their escape once.
He walked over, squatted down, and carefully checked the child's injuries, confirming that Charles was indeed hurt this time, making the situation difficult.
Alice urged, "What are you all standing around for? Hurry up and take the child to the hospital!"
The lead servant frowned and asked, "Mrs. Mitchell, Charles's injuries don't seem to be from a fall. What's going on?"
Alice looked guilty but insisted, "How should I know what happened to him? He's just a child, always getting into trouble. His mother isn't around, so he must have hurt himself! Don't worry about how it happened, just let me go, and I'll take Charles to the hospital!"
Saying this, Alice tried to break free and go to the child.
But Charles curled up on the floor, hugged his head tightly and trembled even more when he heard her say she was coming over!
Alice couldn't break free from the servants' control, as they didn't dare to let go without the lead servant's orders.
The lead servant thought for a moment and said, "Mrs. Mitchell, you don't need to worry about Charles anymore. Vincent Mitchell has instructed us to take him back and let Mr. Melville and Ms. Galatea of the Melville family raise him."
Alice, shocked by this, firmly refused, "No! Absolutely not! Charles is my grandson, and no one can take him away from me! Now that Scarlett is no longer with me, he is all I have left. I won't be able to see my grandson if you take Charles away, I won't go to the summer estate willingly! What's the point of living there alone? I might as well kill myself and end it now!"
Saying this, Alice pretended to bite her tongue.
Seeing Alice's desperation, the lead servant immediately stepped forward to stop her, "Mrs. Mitchell, please calm down!"
