Chapter 229 Katherine, Can I Pursue You?

The man smiled, his dark eyes gleaming with a seductive and affectionate light.

Katherine hadn't seen Jonathan in ages, and she furrowed her brows warily at his sudden appearance.

"What are you doing here?" she asked.

Jonathan, in a finely tailored dark brown suit, exuded an elegant yet mischievous charm. He gave her a gentle smile.

"I heard there are two paintings by Lotus here, so I came to try my luck," he replied.

Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Try your luck? Well, your luck isn't that good! You're too late. I've already bought both of Lotus's paintings."

Jonathan stepped closer, his smile deepening, his gaze like an invisible, entangling thread. "No, my luck is great. I came to see if I'd run into you, and I did!"

Katherine tugged at the corner of her mouth, thinking Jonathan was as boring and flirtatious as always.

She had once tried to buy three of Lotus's paintings from Jonathan's gallery, but he had refused and teased her. Eventually, she managed to acquire the paintings through Alex.

So, it wasn't surprising that Jonathan knew she special fondness for Lotus's work.

Moreover, Jonathan and Alex had been friends for years, making it hard not to think they were in cahoots.

Thinking of this, a hint of wariness appeared in Katherine's eyes. "You came here to run into me? Mr. Mostow, what do you want from me?"

Jonathan squinted, looking at her deeply. "I have something to discuss with you."
Katherine asked, "What is it?"

Jonathan smiled and suggested, "How about we finish the art exhibition first and then grab a meal together? It's been so long; we can sit down and talk."

Katherine was not interested in his invitation. "Sorry, I don't have that much time. If you have something to say, say it here! If it's inconvenient to say it here, then it probably isn't urgent, and it can wait!"

Jonathan felt slightly hurt by Katherine's cold attitude, finding it both amusing and frustrating.

"Katherine, we are friends, aren't we?" he asked.

Katherine remembered that time at the Hilton villa when she fell into the water, and it was Jonathan who helped her get clothes. She had agreed to be friends with him then.

"We are," she replied.

Jonathan said, "As your friend, can you not be so cold to me?"

Katherine furrowed her brows. "Then just say it. What do you want? I don't like beating around the bush!"

Jonathan sighed, looking rather troubled. "Katherine, don't treat me like a threat. I just want to help you."

Katherine looked indifferent. "Help me? How can you help me?"

Jonathan leaned in slightly, his sharp gaze fixed on her unadorned, yet beautiful face.

"Katherine, although I don't know the exact reason, I can tell you've been trying to find Lotus. Maybe I can help you with that!" he explained.

Katherine's previously unfocused gaze suddenly sharpened, clearly intrigued by his words.

"You know where Lotus is?" she inquired.
Jonathan gave a mysterious smile, having piqued her interest, but then deliberately stopped talking. "Now, will you agree to have a meal with me?"

Jonathan had grasped the information she wanted, and Katherine furrowed her brows, still hesitant.

Jonathan smiled and reassured her, "Don't worry, I won't reveal your whereabouts to Alex."

Katherine paused, realizing he had seen through her wariness and given his assurance. She seemed to have no reason to refuse his invitation anymore.

"Alright, then let's go for fast food later. My treat!" she answered.

She figured that with Jonathan dressed so elegantly, if they went to a high-end, romantic restaurant and acquaintances saw them, it could lead to unnecessary rumors and complications.

A fast-food place, though crowded and bustling, was unlikely to have people from Jonathan's social circle.

Moreover, in such a lively atmosphere, having a meal and chatting would seem less intimate, giving the impression of just two friends meeting up.

She didn't want any more stories circulating about her and these high-society men, causing her more trouble!

Jonathan's eyes were cunning, seemingly understanding her cautious thoughts, but he smiled indifferently. "Alright, I'll let you treat me today!"

After purchasing the two Lotus paintings, Katherine left an address for the gallery to send them directly to Frank.

Then, she left the gallery with Jonathan and got into his car.

Katherine chose a well-known fast-food restaurant in Lindvale.
Jonathan, with his devilish looks and an aura of allure, caused quite a stir wherever he went, eliciting excited squeals from girls with girlish fantasies.

However, his noble demeanor created a sense of distance, making those girls hesitant to approach him.

Under the watchful eyes of the girls in the fast-food restaurant, a waiter led them to a table for two and handed them menus.

Katherine ordered what she wanted first, then handed the menu to Jonathan. "Order whatever you like!"

Jonathan smiled and didn't hold back, picking up the pen and marking several items on the menu.

He seemed quite familiar with such fast-food places, ordering without hesitation.

Given Jonathan’s status, he shouldn't frequent such places and likely wouldn’t know the signature dishes of fast-food restaurants.

How could he be so adept at this?

After Jonathan finished ordering, Katherine curiously took the menu to see what he had chosen.

He had chosen a Baconator burger, chicken nuggets, and ice cream.

He was quite good at ordering! Who knew Jonathan had hidden talents?

Katherine couldn't help but recall Alex's first time having fast food with her. Unlike Jonathan's ease, Alex's aloof expression had showed discomfort, unfamiliarity, and a sense of tolerance and compromise.

Both had finished ordering and handed the menu to the waiter.

Jonathan, being very gentlemanly, handed her a cup of slushie, his tone natural yet probing. "Katherine, I heard you've moved out of the Melville family for a month now. Does that mean you and Alex have broken up?"
