Chapter 212 Where's Mrs. Melville?
"Thank you," replied Katherine.
Katherine was always easygoing and didn't take offense easily. She took the towel and first wiped the pool water off her face before starting to dry her wet hair.
Jonathan smiled gently at her, his demeanor reserved and gentlemanly today, unlike his usual teasing self. "Katherine, why don't you rest here for a bit? I'll have my secretary Angela bring you some clothes shortly."
Katherine said, "Alright! Thank you!"
She didn't intend to keep him around. After all, it wouldn't look good for a man and a woman to be alone in a room together, especially since she was married and needed to avoid suspicion.
Jonathan chuckled softly. "Katherine, if you really want to show gratitude, stop thanking me all the time."
Katherine raised an eyebrow indifferently. "What's wrong? Is it bad for me to thank you? It just highlights your noble character, Mr. Mostow, as someone who loves to help others!"
Jonathan chuckled again, "Fair enough. I just feel like you're keeping a distance from me today."
She stopped joking and said seriously, "No, I truly appreciate yout help today, regardless of your connection with Alex. Without you, I wouldn't have any clothes to change into right now!"
Hearing this, the faint smile on Jonathan's face paused, and his brows furrowed slightly with a hint of intrigue. "Katherine,I helped you because of you, not because of anyone else. Even without Alex, we're friends, right?"
Katherine stared at Jonathan's face, thought for a moment, and then nodded. "Alright, today I'll consider you a friend. Now, Jonathan, you should go. I need to dry myself off properly. Even friends shouldn't overstep boundaries!"
With that, she pushed Jonathan towards the guest room door.
With that, she gently ushered Jonathan towards the guest room door.
In the end, Jonathan found himself nearly pushed out of the room, his usual grace momentarily disrupted by Katherine's unexpected forcefulness.
The door closed with a bang, and Jonathan stood there, eyes filled with amused interest.
Katherine, she really never took him seriously!
When he mentioned whether they were friends, she hesitated for quite a while before reluctantly agreeing. She seemed quite unwilling!
Being friends with him, Jonathan seemed to trouble her!
The more he interacted with Katherine, the more interesting he found her!
Jonathan turned gracefully just as his neatly dressed Angela came upstairs. Seeing her boss, she quickened her pace.
She reported, "Mr. Mostow, here are the clothes you requested. But why do you need women's clothes?"
Jonathan smiled. "It's nothing. My friend accidentally fell into the water and got soaked. She needs a change of clothes. Angela, just take these new clothes in for her. I'll have the finance department reimburse you later."
Angela shook her head, declining politely, "Mr. Mostow, you're too kind. These aren't expensive clothes. Consider it a gift from me to your friend! There's no need for reimbursement; it's fine!"
Jonathan didn't intend to be overly polite with his secretary. He treated her well enough on a daily basis, far exceeding the value of a set of clothes.
At this moment, a large hand reached over and took the bag of clothes from Angela's hand. "Thank you for your generosity."
The hand belonged to Alex, whose sudden appearance startled Angela.
Looking up, she saw Alex's deep, icy face right in front of her!
The sudden appearance of this man was so imposing that Angela instinctively took a step back and called out, "Mr. Melville!"
Alex's expression was indifferent. He glanced down and opened the bag to check the clothes inside. They were indeed new, with the tags still on, suitable for Katherine in an emergency.
Jonathan looked at Alex and smiled. "Alex, you finally made it."
Alex nodded slightly, his face serious. "Yes, where's my wife?"
He replied, "She's inside, still wet. I was worried she'd catch a cold, so I brought her to the guest room to dry off."
"Thank you, Jonathan." Alex narrowed his cold eyes. "But next time, don't take someone else's wife into any room without permission. Your consideration is unnecessary."
Jonathan's expression froze for a moment before he chuckled lightly, "Alex, I didn't want to either. I just saw Katherine walk in, all wet and pitiful. And if you hadn't chosen to prioritize your benefactor over your wife today, I wouldn't have had the chance to help her, would I?"
Alex's eyes darkened, and after a brief silence, he spoke coldly, "If you don't understand someone else's family matters, don't comment."
Jonathan shrugged. "Alright. My apologies."
Without another word, Alex removed his expensive watch from his lean, muscular wrist and handed it to Jonathan's secretary, Angela.
Alex said, "I didn't bring cash today. This should be enough to buy the clothes. If it's not enough, come to the Melville Group tomorrow and ask my assistant for more."
With that, Alex turned and walked into the guest room where Katherine was.
Angela stared at the Rolex watch in stunned silence. It was a centennial edition, worth more than her entire retirement savings combined.
Overwhelmed, Angela hesitated, unsure whether to accept such an extravagant gift. She glanced nervously at Jonathan. "Mr. Mostow, Mr. Melville, this..."
Jonathan casually collected his thoughts and said calmly, "If he gave it to you, accept it. It's a highly collectible watch. If you don't like it, you can sell it and buy yourself a new wardrobe."
Angela's attention shifted, curiosity evident on her face. "Mr. Mostow, is the woman who fell into the water really Mr. Melville's wife?"
He confirmed, "Yes, she is."
Angela asked, "I heard Mr. Melville married a pretty ordinary girl. How could an ordinary girl capture Mr. Melville's attention so deeply?"
"No, she is far from ordinary." Jonathan smiled, his expression somewhat profound.
Angela was slightly taken aback, looking at her boss with surprise and confusion. Her boss seemed different today as if there was a hidden excitement in his usually indifferent and composed eyes.
