Chapter 296 Ms. Galatea Is Casting a Wide Net

Sunny, feeling guilty, said, "Bernard, I was tired from studying this morning, so I went out for a walk to give my brain a break."

"Tired from studying?" Bernard seemed to have heard a bad joke, his lips curling slightly, his eyes narrowing into a stern line. "You didn't get a single question right, and you have the nerve to say your brain needs a break? If your brain takes any more breaks, it might as well retire. What's the difference between that and not having a brain at all?"

Sunny lowered his head in shame. "I..."

Bernard glared at his disappointing brother with a look of frustration. "Go back and do your homework right now. Before I get back, you need to answer at least two questions correctly. Otherwise, your credit card won't just be temporarily suspended!"

"Got it." Sunny turned around reluctantly, feeling humiliated by Bernard's scolding. He didn't dare look at Katherine and quickly left.

After Sunny left, Katherine noticed that Bernard was still sitting firmly at her desk, showing no intention of leaving.

"Mr. Mitchell, would you like some coffee?" she asked with a faint smile as she walked in.

Bernard's face remained stern and cold as he looked at her. "Katherine, what exactly are you trying to do?"

Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Mr. Mitchell, I'm just asking if you want coffee. What else could I be trying to do?"

A hint of disdain flickered in Bernard's eyes. "Ms. Galatea, you're just casting a wide net, hoping to catch a big fish. Even Sunny, who's still in high school, isn't off-limits to you. Your behavior is quite disgraceful. Let me remind you, don't waste your efforts on him. Even if you manage to make him fall for you, without my approval, you won't get into the Mitchell family!"

Katherine laughed. "Mr. Mitchell, I see that the three of you in the Mitchell family really are a family. You all look at me the same way as if I'm some lowlife trying to climb up by any means necessary! Let me make it clear again: I came to the Mitchell Group for work. Even if I have other thoughts, it's definitely not to marry into the Mitchell family. So, Mr. Mitchell, rest assured, I'm not interested in you, and I'm even less interested in Sunny! Even if one day you beg me to join the Mitchell family, I wouldn't agree!"

Beg her to join the Mitchell family?

Bernard found her thoughts not only fanciful but also laughable. Beg her? That would never happen!

He said nothing more, scrutinizing Katherine's face for a moment before his gaze slowly moved down to her still-flat stomach, his eyes narrowing with a cold glint.

Bernard stated, "Katherine, just because I don't say doesn't mean I don't know. You can't hide the truth forever. I hope you understand your position and do what you need to do without me having to step in."

Katherine was taken aback, not fully understanding Bernard's words, but she could clearly feel his cold, threatening gaze on her stomach, making her very uncomfortable.

She answered, "Mr. Mitchell, your words are too profound. I need to think about them."

"Ms. Galatea, you're a smart person. I believe you'll figure out the right answer soon. Don't disappoint me," said he.

With that, Bernard elegantly stood up, not intending to stay in her office any longer.

As he passed by Katherine, Bernard added, "Skipping work without reason, your pay for today is docked."

Katherine remained silent.

First, Sunny had just dragged her out to help him buy a gift, and now Bernard had docked her pay. It was truly frustrating!

She and the Mitchell family clearly weren't on the same page !

Never mind, she would endure it for the sake of investigating her mother's affairs!

Tomorrow she would meet her mother's family, her grandparents. She should be able to find out some things about the past from them.

She was getting closer to the truth.

As she reached her office door, Bernard suddenly stopped and turned his head. "By the way, I thought about it, and the sales plan you made this morning can be implemented. Prepare to execute it."

Katherine snapped back to reality and gave a professional smile. "Yes, Mr. Mitchell."

Bernard didn't respond and walked straight out the door.

With everyone gone, Katherine was left alone in the office.

She sat at her desk, subconsciously touching her flat stomach.

But Bernard's words just now suggested he might already know about her pregnancy and was subtly hinting at her to consider getting rid of the baby.

Had Scarlett said something to Bernard this morning?

If that was the case, Scarlett must have been determined to ensure she didn't miss the chance to expose her possible pregnancy.

"Katherine!"

As Katherine was preparing to implement the sales plan, Sunny barged in again!

This time, he was carrying his homework.

Katherine interrupted her work, frowned, and looked up at him. "Why are you back again?"

Sunny plopped down and slammed his homework on the table, looking annoyed and frustrated. "I didn't get a single question right, and Bernard kicked me out of his office!"

Curious, Katherine reached for one of his practice exams and frowned as she looked it over, her mouth twitching.

Not only was the handwriting like a spider's crawl, but he didn't get a single question right, and the mistakes were outrageous.

Katherine inquired, "Sunny, how have you been studying all these years?"

Sunny raised his chin arrogantly and snorted. "School is boring, classes, too. I can't help but want to sleep when I hear the teachers talk, and I don't even want to go to school! I want to be a professional esports player. The stuff they teach in school is useless to me!"

Katherine raised an eyebrow, looking at him disapprovingly. "Sunny, the Mitchell family may be wealthy, but no matter how much money you have, the portion you get will be limited. Living off your inheritance is just a matter of time. Whether you want to inherit the family business or pursue your dream of being an esports player, you need knowledge and wisdom to support you. Learning is a lifelong journey. The more you know, the more independent you can become!"

Sunny stared at her, a bit stunned, taking in her words but unwilling to admit it, frowning. "Katherine, are you teaching me a lesson?"

Katherine withdrew her gaze and chuckled, looking at her computer screen and continuing to work on her PPT. "I don't have the right to teach you a lesson. I just can't stand your attitude towards learning!"

"Okay, that's fine! Aren't you a top student? If you're so capable, teach me!" said Sunny.
